    In the world of extra small crossovers, everyone is fighting for elbowroom. Nearly every brand has a vehicle that competes in this class. But one of the highlights has always been the 2021 Mazda CX-3 thanks to its driving dynamics and attention to details. However, the updated 2021 Nissan Kicks is aiming to take the crown away from the Mazda.
    Starting things off with the older one, the Mazda CX-3 2021 is powered by a 2.0L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine. It produces 148 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque (110 kW & 198 Nm). The Nissan Kicks 2021 receives a 1.6L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine that produces 122 hp and 114 lb-ft of torque (91 kW & 155 Nm). If you don’t have a heavy foot, then the power is adequate.
    However, while the Nissan Kicks doesn’t produce the same amount of power as the Mazda CX3, it is much more fuel efficient. It is rated for 7.7 L/100km (30.5 MPG) in a city and 6.6 L/100km (35.6 MPG) on a highway. By comparison this AWD GT trim of the CX-3 Mazda is rated at 8.6 L/100km (27.4 MPG) in a city and 7.4 L/100km (31.8 MPG) on a highway. If we compare apples to apples, as in, a FWD version of the CX-3 to the FWD Kicks, the Nissan still has better fuel efficiency.
    The 2021 Nissan Kicks starts at $19,898 CAD ($19,500 USD) and this top spec SR trim costs $24,998 CAD ($23,885 USD). The 2021 Mazda CX-3 starts at $21,300 CAD for the FWD with the 6-speed ($20,790 USD FWD Auto) and this GT trim costs $31,100 CAD. Unfortunately in the United States, the Mazda CX-3 does not come as well equipped as it does in Canada and as such the most expensive that it can get is $22,885 USD for the AWD Sport trim.

    Predictable question... which one? Kicks or CX-3?

      Kicks but would be terrified to buy cause of the bad reputation of Nissan CVT!

      @@racineurr.8924 any CVT can be bad. even in a high end car.. CVTs need regular check ups like changing the CVT oil at least every other year, need to check the CVT fluid at least every 6 months to see if its burnt etc, and with CVTs YOU CAN NOT drive it like a regular transmission.. you can not floor it, you have to wait till any CVTs hit about 50kms before you can push the CVT.. so in the end if you treat any CVT well it will last for years. and last for many miles.

      @@dragoon666 High and thanks for your reply. After reading it, I think I could buy a vehicle equipped with a CVT cause I'm the type who takes care of his car. I have now a Rio 2012 with 60,000 km and no scratches, no bumps no nothing on he body. Oil changed every 6-8000 km, a small break job done, a new battery and that's it. Maybe mother luck but it'a a trouble free car. I know how to drive it and I know its limits. So if you say taking great care of a CVT is the trick, I'm happy to lear that from you sir. And I thank you for that.

    I test drove both of these vehicles. They were both good, but I really preferred the Nissan Kicks overall. Its better fuel economy, interior and exterior designs, and price were just better in my opinion. So we went for the Kicks, and it was the best decision for us by far!

    I've test-driven the CX-3 among other vehicles in this class. It's a nice ride, but the rear setting had no leg room at all for my kids. In fact, the Mazda 3 Sport (hatchback) has more rear legroom than both the CX-3 and CX-30.
    The Kicks is huge on the inside and was the selling feature for me.

    Excellent review.However the Kicks actually won 10 to 7. Nissan for whatever reason publishes the boot capacity as two separate capacities. In this case seats up - 25.3 and seats down for 32.2 cu ft more. That gives the Kicks a total of 57.5, much more than the CX-3. I have a 2021 Kicks and took my tape measure down and got roughly these numbers. As an aside, it is totally implausible that folding the seats down only gives you and extra 7 cu ft. 7 cu ft is a box that is 4 ft by 2 ft by 10 inches.

    Test drove the new nissan rogue recently and it sounds similar to your experience with the kicks. Driving it feels strange coming from a 2008 Xterra and my gf's CX5. It has a smooth ride, lighter steering and floats over the road kind of. Can't say that I really care much for this "floating" feeling while driving, though it is a comfortable ride it feels much more artificial and like less of a fun car to drive than a mazda.

    • @MGReviewsBlog
      @MGReviewsBlog  Před 3 lety +1

      Yep, I think Nissan took a more comfort over sporty approach to their cars (apart from the 370Z & GTR) because the Rogue is exactly as you described it when compared to the CX5. I did a review on the new generation Rogue if you want to check that out: czcams.com/video/w1QWY4vhz1U/video.html

      Nissan and Mitsubishi are working together on their car models. The new Nissan Rogue shares the exact same platform of the Mitsubishi Outlander. Nissan is helping Mitsubishi (the car side of the business at least) get out of financial debt. And Nissan themselves have just recently started turning things around as well. But Nissan does have a pretty big market share, probably bigger than Subaru or Mazda here in North America.
