Thanks for having me on the show Adam and PCWorld! This was a great way to finish off the week 🍻

To Paul’s question at 15:15, CPU with an application strength versus overall strength depends on the user’s circumstances (sorry HUB, y’all didn’t discover the relevance of ‘depends’). I like the choices today.
Remember, Only 20 years have passed since multicore PC CPUs arrived for the mainstream consumer market. Before that, it was about the CPU strength needed to accomplish one’s highest priority task.
To PCWorld, thank you for the decades of computing news. I started reading the magazine in 1984, became bored in the mid 1990s with the “editorial” shift, and am reinvigorated by the CZcams content.

I'm going to say no to color coding power supply cable ends because they are keyed and labeled. What I think they should do is stamp their logo into the PS end with the type or revision.
e.g. Corsair cable: Sails logo on the power supply end with Type 3 or Type 4 under it. They should maintain the current EPS and PCIe labels on the device side.
This would stop a lot of expensive mistakes.

AM4, it got future proofed when NPUs came to NVMe.
You just need a MB with at least 2 NVMe, looking at my MSI X570 Unifiy with 3.
The 5800X3D isn't FANTASTIC but it's good enough for something like an RX 6950 XT and if you're in front of a 2K monitor you don't need anything more for years. Yes, you may have to tweak some settings and games that are solely RT like Avatar, OK so then you might need a new GPU. I'll just wait. I don't have to play a game when it comes out, there's hundreds of games.

Color coding plugs if on the back is a great idea

More specialized CPUs and such sounds good to me. Would let you better focus on the aspects you want most, and the different designs would be interesting. A gaming-oriented CPU might have fewer, bigger cores, or generous embedded DRAM instead of slots.
Maybe there's room for an angled adapter for those Asus cards' power connectors? Would need to be well-built, of course...

Arguably the two most approachable techtubers at CES. 😎 I agree: we need to see a standard for rear mobo connections. But Paul is right that well-sleeved and managed cables are a thing of beauty, too. 🧐

It'd be cool if we saw APUs get competitive with lower mid-range GPU, even if i would probably never use one, anything to make PC more accessible

Nvidia is NOT going to release a 4090 Ti. The 4090 is already powerful enough and the issue because what happens next gen.
The 4090 is already a GPU that can run 4K RT games. It can already in a few games be throttled by the CPU EVEN THOUGH it's running 4K RT.
So, releasing a 4090 Ti when the 4090 already gets throttled by current gen CPUs, it probably wouldn't sell well, people would complain about the power consumption and it would bring up pricing issues for the next gen release and next gen sales would probably mean the sales of the 4090 Ti would go flat at the price point Nvidia wants, it just doesn't make sense to release.
The 4090 has been a big seller for Nvidia, and a big profit maker. They don't want to screw up a good thing.

If ASUS opens their standard for the GPU power connector on the back, then is it really an issue? Simplifies things for everyone at the same time, but yes, at the price of backwards compatibility.

Too often cases are made safe, good for everything. To be able to sell the necessary number.
The problem with that is oversize, price and the simple fact that good for everything is hardly ever great for anything. AiO certainly profits from slightly different setup than air cooling does. Having it fit both results in just another large tower. They call it mid tower these days, but that's just bs.

I'm considering getting an 8700G, and later buying a 4060 Ti when I can afford one because the CPU supports only up to 8 PCIe GPU lanes.

if AMD got their act together with multi CCD CPUs and fixed the scheduling problems then the 7900X3D and 7950X3D would be much more useful.

I think that if the 8600g settles at 199usd or lower it will be a great option for 1060-ish performance with much less power needed and you get the first desktop NPU for whatever that will be worth.

AMD do their best to screw people with the naming scheme. They did the same with mobile CPUs selling some 6 series as 7 series.

one of the worst ideas 11:55 yes, connection would be hidden but, lets be real, that probably won't be a standard thing in other motherboards
"exciting times" really? gpus are expensive, motherboard and psu are getting more expensive. And payments at the end of the month are not great either...

Cables on the back just means I'd have to open both panels to remove a GPU for example. No thanks. It doesn't solve a big enough problem. Come up with something else.
