My sister passed on June 19, 2018. And we were told to play this song at her memorial. She was a cook at a local bar and that's where everyone sang loud and cried to the sing and the man she listened to often. Thankyou Jimmy for letting me do one thing she absolutely wanted. I miss her, so if you see this please sing it louder than you ever have before! You now have an Angel listening.
Jimmy's now looking at 80. Don't seem possible until I remember I'm looking at 61.
Friends for decades and to the end Mac and Jimmy were💖💔Jimmy gave us all moments of being free spirited. RIP and sorely missed.

Buffet's a legend.. I saw Jimmy and the Coral Reefer Band in 1977 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City. Got to go backstage and was invited to hang with them at the Holiday Inn. The good old days are gone but not forgotten. Thanx JB

Heard this song at my first JB concert in 1983 when he would come out solo for a segment. There was a strange smell in the air :) and it brought the crowd to a communal state of mind. People were singing the words with him and I did not know them. I understood then about the sense of being a Parrot Head and went out the next day and bought You Had To Be There so I could learn all the words to what I had heard that night. This takes me back to a younger time for both myself, my wife and JB when it did not seem so commercial. The sound and the words came together like a musical short story and it was perfect. You could close your eyes and be in the scene. We probably all knew someone like the Pirate. A free-spirit that could not really connect to the world today but probably would fit in another era. Thanks for the musical painting Jimmy and for the songs that take us back to another time in our lives.

I drove from Hampton VA to The World Amphitheater on my 40th to hear this song on my Birthday. Great year then. I went to seven shows through Virginia and North Carolina to finish in Chicago.
Back in the 70s I learned to strum a few guitar chords reasonably well. It never would have happened if JB, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, Guy Clarke, and the like hadn't written songs like this that I NEEDED to sing.
I loved this song from the first time I heard it in 1975 and one of the best albums ever A1A... Thank You JB..

I met Jimmy on the beach when I was there in 2015. He showed up on the beach after telling a bunch of us he would play at Capt. Tony's later. My husband had just left me for his secretary. I 5:21 t was my best trip ever!!!
