  • Wading through the many aspects of a movie to decide if it stands the Test of Time is one of the
fun parts of this journey. Often times, we’ve looked at classics that are genuinely seen as good
in most aspects and decide if it was good just for its era or if it was able to transcend its place in
time and still be a good time today. What about Silent Night, Deadly Night? It was certainly controversial and is very well known for multiple scenes but how good is it? Is it just here for cheap thrills and controversy or has its deeper message of past trauma only become more relevant and insightful nearly 40 years since its stuttered and shortened release? Let’s climb down the chimney and deliver this gift of a movie to find out if it stands the Test of Time.

Honestly one of my favorite 80's slashers. Great backstory, good kills and funny moments. This movie is always a must watch around Christmas in my house. I met Robert Brian Wilson very recently at a convention and even if he was ashamed of this movie for long time. I can assure you he loves how much fans like me really love this film and has the time of his life talking about it now.

Yep I agree the thing is with silent night deadly night is is the story back then in the 80s they took people with different mental illnesses and stories and if they happen to be slasher villains or you know low budget, you know Grindhouse type of movies it was different it wasn’t you know Billy‘s not burnt in a NF warehouse and has supernatural powers he’s not deformed like like Jason Vorhees he’s not or leather face or not even Michael Myers, what you know demon, spirits and stuff his him and his brother are broken people and you know that unfortunately that happens it’s one of those movies I still haven’t found them. I’m determined to find it again I don’t Noah in my my opinion I don’t think those kids should’ve been around that that Catholic and I were finish when when they had the Santa Claus thing I mean I mean most I don’t know I mean I think the 80s were different time but I don’t think it might opinion I don’t think those kids should’ve been around the Santa Claus stuff like that because I was a trigger and that’s what happened.😢

I love this movie more than I should... For me it's the perfect metaphor for how Christmas has been forced onto everyone during that time, no matter how much you disliked it. I can totally connect to that theme.

Just watched this again last night... I still think it's a very good horror movie. Sure it's a little dated but it has all the elements of a fun "holiday gimmick" slasher. If that is what you are looking for then this is the perfect movie for this time of year. The music also gives it a little bit of charm 😂😂

It's a fun, campy novelty that was one of our first VHS rentals in the mid-80's to see what all the hype was about. I guess their attempt to be less shocking by NOT having Santa in full beard failed and it was still deemed just oh so controversial that it got yanked from theaters. I still find the 'punish' and 'naughty' proclamations hilarious each time I watch it, which should be very soon since the big day (for kids anyway) is just around the corner.

I remember having to wait for VHS because SNDN got pulled from theaters. I think it hold up well, I'm just not a huge fan of the Utah setting. Was Vancouver not available? Andy hey you notice the Santa dad who was nearly shot is Michael from Halloween 5? I swear there were only a handful of stuntmen in the 70's and 80's, and they all took turns playing Jason or Michael. And Leo Getter who got chucked out the window by Billy was also in Halloween 6 as Barry Simms.

@@mightybitchy everyone dies, an innocent gets blamed for the murders, the villain reveal still on of the most creepiest (the red eye through the slit behind the door, getting goosebumps jus talking about it) and then the display of the immense strength/speed at which the killer lunges down a flight of stairs so fast across the camera it’s like watching a figment of a nightmare come alive, not to mention there seriously was a time that prank calls did upset and freak ppl out. Obviously don’t remember it or have a different bar for horror or jus don’t appreciate the classics.

This is decent, a fun and silly yet at times really disturbing slasher film with an interesting story and some good kills, Black Christmas is (in my opinion) the best slasher film of all time and that includes Halloween. Does it stand the test of time? No.. lol It was garbage back then and even worse now, the acting is on par with some of the worst I've seen. With that though, if you're a horror fan, you have to see it, it's just one of those films you shouldn't miss.
I was around 17 when this movie released, we knew exactly what we were getting into when seeing it though. For those that weren't born yet or too young to remember, this movie was banned everywhere, even finding it on video back then was hard, VHS was just gaining steam, then you mix in all the controversy from this film, it was a hard find. See it if you haven't though, if nothing more than a good laugh.
