- In a town where a bunch of the teens carry the last names of horror directors, an alien invasion possesses corpses and living people alike; this, my friends, is 1986. And our hero, the go-to man to save the night, is Tom Atkins! It was the 80s, and the film is a sort of love letter to alien invasion films of the 1950s as well as an update on the genre with a bit of a nod to Cronenberg's Shiver. The film is beloved to this day, and for a good reason. Today we dig into Night Of The Creeps and ask, WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS HORROR MOVIE?

SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: What Happened To This Horror Movie?

This is legit my all-time favorite horror movie. I am so glad y’all finally did a video for this. To this day, I still say, “Screaming like banshees!” 🤣🤣🤣
Great taste my man. Love this film too. One of my all-time favorites. Has to be in my top 10 for sure. I remember first seeing the movie poster when I was 11 years old at my local video store. It had just come out and it looked awesome. Wish I had not skipped it in the theater. They don’t make ‘em like this anymore. “I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is your dates are here. The bad news is…they’re dead!”👍
I could not agree more! I had the poster hanging in my classroom (I teach high school) until a parent complained and I had to remove it. The movie simply has it all!
Underrated Classic. It's funny, scary, and has great practical FX.
Tom Atkins is the man. Hahah.
"Thrill me!"
@@anduhdrea917 I hope you still have the poster!
The way the brain-slugs swiftly and rapidly jetted across any surface was so much better than the clumsily crawling CGI monstrosities of James Gunn’s _Slither._
This is a highly underrated classic from the 80's. Right up there w/ Return of the Living Dead and Re-Animator for a night of good horror fun.
+heyguyslol GAMING
Those are some absolute bangers! Also, is your profile pic an image of John Fetterman? 🤔
@@Fluoride_Jones lol naw, Sloth from the Goonies but often mistaken for the Toxic Avenger :P
Amen to that and cheers to you for impeccable taste!
@@heyguyslolGAMING Haha! Yeah, I know. I love both "The Goonies" and "The Toxic Avenger." I still have my Toxie action figure from the early '90s "Toxic Crusaders" cartoon series!
These 3 movies right there make up a sort of trinity of "80s horror comedy" for me; hard to describe the joy of discovering all these years ago. AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON and EVIL DEAD II are also related, with shout-outs to SPOOKIES and WAXWORK. But my all-time favorite among all these is NIGHT OF THE DEMONS.
Tom Atkins the man the legend.
I saw this with my parents when I was little at the theater. Times were so much better back then...
Tom Atkins is amazing in this movie, one of my all time favorite characters. He has such a sad history, but carries on like a boy scout and dies a hero.
80s horror was just out of this world can't be replicated. These movies are cheesy yet fun to watch. This movie is a classic
This was my favorite go to movie when I was younger. Great acting, great practical effects, and perfect mix between horror and comedy.
@Will Rob "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" is one of my dad's favorite movies, and he's seventy-one! He even has a large coffee mug and door mat of the movie! 😆
@willrob5142 also , its the first movie that had a the two best male best friends where its hinted that they might be in love with each other and it isnt played for laughs (after john is taken over he admits to be being in love with chris)
I'll tell you WTF happened, Night of the Creeps rocked! Nuff said.
When I first saw this movie I didn't realize that if that young guy hadn't came over to his house he was about to delete himself.Because he had the stove turned on and all his doors taped up and he was playing with a cigarette lighter.
"I've good news and bad news. The good news is your dates are here."
"What's the bad news?"
"They're all dead...."
One of my favorite movie quotes EVER ! @@brandonlahman7945
I rented this repeatedly in the 80s, but it must be a blast to watch with a crowd.
I haven't seen this movie in years. What a blast from the zombiefied past. I feel like 2006's Slither is a tribute to this movie. I love both movies.
I remember watching this on Zombie week on Sci-Fi Channel in 1995. I love the zombies, Tom Adkins lines, & it has my favorite Rusty Griswold.
I remember watching this one on Joe Bob Briggs' MonsterVision show. That was awesome stuff.
SAME!! Him & Elvira - B movie ROYALS!! He’s still on “Shudder”
Basket Case? Motel Hell?
@@shannonnichols3415 👍👍👍
I was trying to remember “Tourist Trap” so had to come back when I finally did! And Sleep-a-way Camp! Somebody put together a list of 100 of these type movies that everyone loves! They have old 80s actors and VH1/Mtv vj’s (ppl I recognize from different things). Its an hour of fun down memory lane for a kid of the 70s-80s!
(Yes, I’m totally aware how nerdy I sound and I’m fine with it! 😂 ). Many blessings!
This may very well be one of the most underrated horror movies in history. This is the one movie that had me answering the phone back in the 80s by saying... "THRILL ME!"
This is one of my favorite movies! We don't have opening nights anymore like the one NotC struggled to get a foothold in! I wish. We're lucky to get 2 or 3 good movies in a year nowadays.
Love this movie! Saw this on Syfy in 2006, and I loved every minute of it!
I miss the days when syfy played good movies. Now it's a joke
So, I decided to spend my Saturday re-watching it (I remembered I loved this movie, but not specifically why). After a re-watch, I have to say DANG! It had it all. Renewed as one of my very fave movies ever. Good pacing, good humour, good characters. And it stood the test of time.
This is one of my all time favorite horror classics. Has the best tag line in history (as good as the Alien tag line): “The good news is your dates are here. The bad news is they’re dead.” 99/100 🤟
+TheGodOfPerez
How about, "Who will survive and what will be left of them?" This being the classic tagline from "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre." Also, "They'll get you in the end!" The tagline from "The Ghoulies," of course. 😄
@@Fluoride_Jones Great choices, too! 👏
@@thegodofpez Thanks! 👍
Always wanted a sequel to this film.
Nah. Perfect films like this should be left alone - no sequels, no remakes.
This film is a GEM!!!!!
I love it when they get Norm Macdonald to narrate these things
THAT’S who the voice reminded me of. It was driving me nuts. (Quite a coup, considering he’s dead.)
@@CantankerousDave 🤣 yeah man. This guy could be his twin!
Tom Atkins: the man, the legend. Even in the commentary, they introduce him that way!
6:55 Shoulder that trombone gun, greenhorn!
7:37 The Oingo Boingo brothers were named after the greatest band of all time!
8:47 'The Nest' tried to one-up that a year or two later with a zombie mutant hybrid roach-cat.
Addendo0m: I don't know for sure if the zombie mutant hybrid roach-cat from 'The Nest' (the '80s one) was intentionally an attempt to one-up the cat zombie from 'Night of the Creeps', but it's at least on part with it.
Great movie 🎥 Fred Dekker starting the peak of his writing ✍️ power
he has two cult following movies that also has as many memes and iconic catchphrases as the star wars prequels
cindy's wind up middle finger was first done in this movie......i remember after this came out , people started doing that gesture 😂😂😂
Classic movie 👍 thanks for sharing.
My second and third favorite movie of all time. Yeah, that’s right. Second and third! (Killer Klowns From Outer Space is the second and third) My number one of all time is Class of Nuke’em High!
I was 8 years old when I saw this movie, and I loved it. I also got introduced to amazing movies by the platters and made it even better. I'm on my 40s now and still enjoy this movie.
I love this one, a quintessential 80s horror movie that just nails it.
A lovely gem from the 80s. 80s horror is the best. Cheese. Camp. Absurd plots and ideas. Great practical effects. The music. And I like to think that one of my other favorite horror movies, Slither 2006, was inspired by this in some way. I liked the alternate ending where a burnt Tom Atkins walked out of the fire, fell and released more slugs as opposed to the hot girl getting infected.
+Joe Kerr
I think James Gunn did mention he's a fan, if I recall correctly.
This is definitely in my top 5 films of all time. A local theater shows B movies on Mondays, and I recently got to bring my wife to see it on the big screen. Glorious!
HELL YEAH I SAW THIS ON HDNET CHANNEL LAST OCTOBER AND IT STILL HOLDS THE TEST OF TIME.
Just watched Tom Atkins in "My Bloody Valentine-3D" (2009) last night.
Thanks for the Video 😀
Fucking great film, just went to a screening of it in Brooklyn last year and it was awesome. Everyone clapped and cheered for J.C.'s speech about him going out of his way to help Chris. XD And it had the Director's cut ending as a well.
Did you see it at Alamo Brooklyn? They had a screening of it there a few years back before I moved. The crowd ate it up. Good times.
@@JayFingers Nice! Me, saw it at the Nitehawk Cinema in Prospect Park. But I have been to the Alamo there when I saw "Babylon". Am going back to both in two weeks to see "Private School", "Malignant" and "Bram Stoker's Dracula", as well as "Scream VI" and "Dressed to Kill". All cause everytime I go down to NYC for a few days every couple months, I go movie screenings. My own little vacation.
Love Tom Atkins in this. "Thrill me" 👌
Do you watch ‘Malfuncsean’? One of my favorite episodes of ‘filming locations’ is with Tom Atkins.. it’s only a couple years old. There’s also a H3 with Tommy Wallace!! It’s a great channel and it should have way more subs than it does!! Check it out if you haven’t 💋♥️
@@AnnieBoBannie421 I shall!
Awesome movie! Hollywood needs to pay attention.
oh I love this movie, the quote "I got good news and bad news, girls. The good news is your dates are here" "what's the bad news?" "They're dead"
hope you do a video on "lobster man from Mars"
I used to watch this movie and The Gate over and over as a kid in the 80s. Good times
In 87 when this was released on VHS I made my elderly grandma watch this with me we both loved it I scared a little Italian woman a bit but she got it
Love this movie combination of Return of the living dead and Slither just a total blast
4:47 "BLACK & DECKER"
I bet you didn't think anyone would catch that one huh? Nice touch.
This did "Thrill me." Seeing Night Of The Creeps get the love it so richly deserves and is great vindication for the film and all involved. What was the studio thinking, putting this gem amongst those heavy hitters? "Hey, let's send this turd out to die." Idiots!
Tom Atkins lives in my hometown. I see him all the time.
One of my favorite horror movies. I watched the vhs over and over as a kid.
Great video! One of those movies I can rewatch again and again. Gonna watch it tonight lol. My lady hasn't seen it
I'm surprised you didn't mention the Hilarious Team-up of writers Black & Dekker!
I remember going to _"Slugs"_ thinking it was this one. Information didn't flow back then the way it does now. That was the first movie I ever walked out of. I have still never seen either of those movies (all the way through).
Such a good movie. I also have a very nice autograph from Fred Dekker.
"This is classic Spanky." I've loved this film even though I discovered it later in my life via cable on demand. A love letter to genre fans I can't think of any reason why genre fans or non-genre fans would have for no love for this flick.
I had completely forgotten about this flick. So, thanks for reminding me about it's existance. I wonder why the streaming services havw tried to forget it also.
I saw this movie on cable as kid in the early 2000's and tho I forgot the name of the movie I never forgot the alien slugs and the axe murderer zombie. When I saw Slither many years later I thought it was it was a remake.
I signed the petition to get this movie released on DVD in 2005 (?) one of my favorites!!
I was sold on this movie when I heard the name Tom Atkins...
My favorite line of the movie is where he said, "I've got good news and bad news. The good news is your dates are here."
"What's the bad news?"
"They're dead"
💀😆
Night of the Creeps and The Stuff are my two big guilty pleasure horror movies. A lil cheesy, but not enough to be B movies.
This is definitely one of my favorite movies of all time !
Very well done ! Love this movie
Thanks. You thrilled me.
Loved this movie and ty much for this
So good!!!
Jason Lively and Jill Whitlow starred together in another film after Night Of The Creeps. The Roland Emmerich film, Ghost Chase with Paul Gleason.
always liked the movie... highly recommended
It is such a fun and entertaining film, always worth a watch!
@joblo horror originals
Please do an "Awfully Good" video on the schlocky, cult classic B-movie, "Highway to Hell" from 1991. A young couple's elopement to Vegas takes a wrong turn, forcing an average Joe (Rob Lowes little brother, Chad Lowe) on an insane, low budget roadtrip through Hell (which bears a striking resemblance to Arizona) to rescue his girlfriend (played by Kristy Swanson), all while evading a Demonic Highway Patrol Officer. Featuring baffling cameos from Lita Ford, Ben Stiller, Jerry Stiller and Gilbert Godfrey as Adolf Hitler! This flick was pure 90s Late Night Cable Gold! Good stuff! 🤣
A fearnet staple back in the day
AKA Russ Griswold's Alien Vacation
Ha!
It's insane how much Slither took from this movie. Especially the slugs taking people over through their mouths. Kinda appreciate it more for that reason.
I consider SLITHER a rocking homage to NIGHT OF THE CREEPS. Fantastic double-bill.
The Night of the Creeps connection is confirmed in the postcredit scene of Victim No More.
such a damn good movie
Such a great movie!
I don't know if studios kept their release schedules top secret back then, but wth was this film doing releasing against The Fly, Top Gun and Stand By Me? Nearly as bad as The Thing releasing in summer on the same day as Blade Runner, in the same month as E.T and a dozen other summer blockbusters. Creeps didn't even cross my radar until a CZcams channel did a bit about a few years ago and I bought the Blu-ray. Absolutely love it.
All the last names of the main characters are based on famous horror and sci-fi directors: George A. Romero (Chris Romero), John Carpenter and Tobe Hooper (James Carpenter Hooper), David Cronenberg (Cynthia Cronenberg), James Cameron (Det. Ray Cameron), John Landis (Det. Landis), Sam Raimi (Sgt. Raimi) and Steve Miner (Mr. Miner - The Janitor).
Grafitti on the wall of the men's room where J.C. is trying to escape a number of slugs reads, "Go Monster Squad!". The Monster Squad (1987) was also directed by Fred Dekker.
The movie the house mother is watching on TV is "Plan 9 from Outer Space" (1959).
Tom Atkins's favorite movie of his own.
Corman University" is a reference to director/producer Roger Corman.
Gordon the Cat was named after film producer Gordon Carroll.
Director Fred Dekker originally wanted to shoot the film in black and white.
Jill Whitlow in this film is considered by some as one of the first female empowered action heroines, just in front of Linda Hamilton's Sarah Connor in 1984's The Terminator.
Features Jill Whitlow's first nude scene
J.C. is the only person who speaks after being infected by the slugs. Everyone else is zombified as soon as they're infected, as their brains are used for incubation.
Karen (June Harris) is the only female student who turns into a zombie and is killed.
Thrill me 📞 I have the blu ray with the alternate ending love this movie and I like the monster squad Easter egg
Ason Unique rollin' with the night of the creeps
I have seen the (NIGHT OF THE CREEPS) movie, I enjoyed it, I thought it was great, and I was disappointed a sequel didn’t get made of it.
Now I strongly feel that a (NIGHT OF THE CREEPS) show series should be made of it, and I suggest making it a (R)rated show series.
Allan Kayser, who played, the frat boyfriend, played Bubba on MaMa’s Family for years.
my all time fav horror movie
I love this movie. I have it on VHS
”Thrill Me” 😎 -- Tom Atkins
"Screaming like banshees!"
Black & Decker…are you trolling us? lol 😂
I wish the director made it the old VCR version of night of the creeps! Because the ending scene much better. The young lady after kissing her boyfriend looks down on see the dog walk by. She smiles at the dog. That is very much dead zombie carrying alien slither warm creatures inside of its body! She looks surprised when the hideous silver warm creature goes straight for her mouth! Then the movie turns black she screams its inside of me! Will her new boyfriend is ask what's happening? The creature go's into her will after trying to throw it up! she was try to get it out! Then everone hears a gargle noise! She may have became the zombie carrier of the alien warm creatures! The great movie ending!!..
I love this movie. I see this and Critters kinda being in the same universe with evil alien creatures populating our solar system with Earth being caught in the middle.
Jill Whitlow was my 80s Horror Celebrity Crush…..she became my reality on 10/17/2021 at Dead Con when I met her the first time in person I had to punch myself! Then was lucky enough to see her a 2nd time on 4/15/2023 at Motor City Legacy! Ron Garvey
Just an all-around great horror flick.
Very rare final girl shows body but survives
Jason lively also played rusty Griswold in national lampoon's European vacation
Shadow Company sounds awesome
I love that movie!
I think Jason Lively might be more well known from European Vacation
I love this movie!
I remember this movie in HBO when I was 16. 🤣
I'm curious if the Shadow Company screenplay was the inspiration for Universal Soldier??
Please do a WH video about the movie “Remote Control”
I can tell the narrator could be in his 50s. this film might be out during his childhood
I am not happy for Ye. I am not going to let him finish. But I just want to say, Fred Dekker directed one of the best movies OF ALL TIME! OF ALL TIME! AND IT'S NIGHT OF THE CREEPS
THRILL ME!!!
I love the movie A Bucket of Blood that's one of few movies I can actually watch in black n white💯💯💯
Jill Whitlow. Enough said.
Black AND Decker? 4:47.
Ngl all these years I knew they were roommates and occasional writing partners and I never put that together. 🤦🏾♂️😩😭😭
Thrill me.
