Christmas Evil is one of those movies that rises above its B-movie roots. Genuinely a good movie with lots of visual references to earlier classics of silent cinema and film noir.
I never heard of this until a couple years ago. I absolutely love this movie now. Along with Black Christmas and Silent Night Deadly Night, this one will be watched every holiday season. This is more of a character study than a Santa slasher film.
A couple of years ago, I got stoned and threw it in. I hadn't seen it and expected a cheesy slasher. It creeped me out and had me mesmerized. It kind of reminds me of Maniac.
Saw this last month and have not been able to stop thinking about it. Such a fantastic movie.
Christmas Evil is by far my favorite Christmas horror movie. I now watch it every Christmas. A few years ago, I was going through Christmas horror movies and just felt very unfulfilled by what I had watched. And then, a Christmas miracle, I found Christmas Evil! I would describe the ending as delusional, but whimsical, and one I really liked as I did not want to see any harm come to Harry.
The VHS releases are interesting with the different ways they tried to market it though. The first release compares it to Friday the 13th and Halloween, and has cool artwork. Subsequent VHS releases try to push it as smut by writing “… Kept a list of all the girls who have been good, and all the girls who have been bad. It’s Christmas time, and all the bad girls are in trouble.” This would make you think he’s gonna go after naughty coeds or something which is not at all what the movie is. Another one of the VHS releases has “he knows who has been naughty… He knows who has been nice… He doesn’t care“. And this is also very untrue as Harry cares deeply about who’s been good and who’s been bad. Harry establishes rules and he sticks to those rules, unlike the killer in Silent Night Deadly Night who eventually starts killing indiscriminately.
But if someone was at the video store and saw those VHS tapes for Christmas Evil and were looking for a good movie, they would probably pass on it because they thought it might be something like a Sorority House Massacre. But if they were looking for that type of thing and rented it, they would probably disappointed because it’s not a boob flick… but at that point, it had been several years after the movie's initial release, and the distributors were just trying to put whatever they could on the box to get it to sell.
Christmas Evil Aka You better watch out They played this movie non-stop on Showtime last year And I couldn't get enough of it.
Unfortunately, ‘Harry’ would slip through the cracks like millions of others that don’t have enough family/friends to even bother/care…..
Brandon Maggart had a very strong screen presence, I wonder his career could’ve gone had he gone more mainstream.
The signs of the time segment really makes me Long for the old days. It really was a simpler and better time than the times we are living in now
Mike Conway is on another level best editor in the game
I discovered this about 10 years ago. It's a favorite of mine. I watch it every year, on multiple occasions. It's so wonderful and weird. Thank you for posting this video. Perhaps this criminally under exposed movie can reach some new eyes. 🎄🎅🏻
The score was perfect. The music created the perfect atmosphere and totally fits the B horror genre of that period.
I was so happy I watched this last year after hearing about it for so long. Was added to my holiday horror favorites with the quickness!
‘Harry’ had 0 sexual interest in any of the children…. Creepy? Yeah… but how else is he supposed to truly know who’s naughty/nice? 😂😂 I love this movie!!! TY for showing it some love!!!!❤
I absolutely agree! I love this film, so thank you! The only reason I had watched this film yo begin with was Brandon Maggart. I had seen him in a production in Chicago, and got to meet him after the show! Nice man!
He saw Mommy smashing
Santa Claus 🧑🎄 🎅.
That's why he always said,
" Ho Ho Ho " .
I saw this on Fear Net in 2010. Even though it wasn't the splatterfest I waa expecting, it was a great character piece.
THANK YOU! I was hoping someone would cover this, I saw it for the first time a few weeks ago and loved it. More a grity character study than a typical slasher, the focus mainly being on the killer was an interesting change for the genre, I really enjoyed it...especially that bonkers ending...🤯👍
I love the ending! Santa flying away In a van.
I saw this for the first time last year and thought it was great
Found it on CZcams and will watch it This Week.
Also free to watch on Tubi & Freevee if anyone else is interested.
@@Axolotl_Mischief Thank You !!!
@@salemslotandmore8278 my pleasure, enjoy!
The best way to watch this film is with the John Waters commentary. It's priceless.
Christmas movies could be joyful for children even us adults but however, not all Christmas movies to become "kid friendly" because of "adult content" in which children cannot watched like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Scrooge or even Violent Night in 2022. In the world of horror, Christmastime can't be too joyful but horrifying. Silent Night, Deadly Night is a prime example to see one little boy seeing his parents getting slaughtered by a evil Santa. As a teenage worker, he got snapped and killing a lot of people. Black Christmas is a definite classic of how stylish by Bob Clark's perspective style of filmmaking.
Now, Christmas Evil came in the 80s and I loved it. I saw it free on CZcams and gonna rewatching it again before or doing the Christmas in July. GREAT REVIEW, JOBLO!
Just watched it with the kids. It's a great holiday horror
I always loved killer Santa movies, don't know why they stopped making the Christmas slashers
And violent night is no slasher it's a bad comedy
Very cool stuff thanks for the review of this movie 😊😊
Parents not giving their kids a well-timed smack is why we are where we are. A sign of the times, indeed.
I knew she smacked the kid but didn't realize she put him to death.
Corporal. It's corporal.
Saw it a few days ago for the first time. GREAT MOVIE!!! Very underrated. 🎅🏻
Was anyone else bored stiff watching this movie?
It's like Joker but with Santa.
I loved the show Brothers.!I had know idea the Harry was Lou.?
The main character played by Brandon Maggert is Fiona Apple’s biological father.
FYI "Capital Punishment" is the death penalty. You likely meant to say "Corporal Punishment".
Fun movie 😊
Dead meat done this too 👍
Fiona Apple’s father
I think you meant "corporal punishment ", not "capital punishment", lol..
this one was just plain weird
Total Cult Chiller Exploitation Classick!
I can’t tell whether or not this channel is a content farm or not with how terrible some of the narration is, sounds like they sent the script off to some random
Its a movie one hundred percent fiction. You disect it like a teenager in science class getting grossed out by the guts of a frog.Shit happens.
Imagine your self in 30 years reporting on You Tube ,Facebook or the crap Marvel
movies we get .
The words of the Santa Claus is Coming To Town song is the plot of the movie.
Todays generation is no better or worse than Boomers, X, Millennial etc just way more noisy.
Wow, imagine taking yourself sooo seriously despite the fact that you don't know how to use a keyboard...fascinating 🤔
@@Axolotl_Mischief Baby it's Cold Outside. One spelling mistake ,do I have to stay after class? Okay boomer.
Happy New Year
@@jamesparker4471 Waaay too young to be a boomer but good luck to you on future assumptions and that little problem you seem have with the space key!
@@Axolotl_Mischief i bet you criticize your cat too.
