Today, we're celebrating the late, great director Tobe Hooper, by looking at his underrated 2004 horror film Toolbox Murders, which features a chilling "coffin birth" scene that sets its unsettling tone. Shifting to another horror classic, Brittany Murphy's role in Cherry Falls stands out as a unique slasher where the killer targets virgins, unlike her well-known parts in Clueless and 8 Mile. Finally, Valentine (2001), starring Marley Shelton, David Boreanaz, and Denise Richards, encapsulates the early 2000s vibe with its unexpected twists despite some typical slasher shortcomings. These films exemplify what makes early 2000s horror interesting: a mix of innovation, subversion of genre tropes, and a distinctive stylistic flair. Join us as we explore these unique horror films that capture the essence of early 00s horror.

I have SUCH a soft spot for Cherry Falls. At this point it's a comfort watch.
Cherry Falls was an underrated gem. It even plays a role reversal on a horror trope.
@@tristenmoore1275 It was great. Brittany Murphy did a great job. But I feel like this was one of those movies that got shelved or pulled because the Columbine High School Masscare
Such a good one
Need a uncut/Director’s cut version.
Ginger Snaps is another good 2000 horror movie
One of my favorite werewolf films. It's great. I liked the sequel and prequel too.
@LiirThropp2687 It's my second favorite Werewolf movie behind American Werewolf in London
Stuff like this is a big reason why I really enjoy your channel man, thanks for sharing these, well nowadays, more obscure 90s early 2000s films.
More to come, dude!

Valentine not going after the boys is actually really true to life. He would never have the confidence to attack boys; but the girls are easy targets in his mind.
That's interesting
He clearly killed several guys in this movie. Doesn't seem like he has a problem with it.
yeah but it'd be nice if he went after the boys too, they humiliated him 100% more than the girls tho
@@michelcomenta How? The girls made fun of him and one of them lied on him. The boys didn't do anything like that.
I saw Valentine a few years ago and ended up liking it.
Wait is that Michael Biehn as Dad!? She's perfectly safe!! He fights fuckin terminators for crying out loud!!
But he’s also the deadliest pistoleer since wild bill.
Aliens too
We grew up watching slashers. Wishcraft is a underappreciated one
Love all these films. Great video as always guys 😊🐾💜👋👍
6:08 idk if "love child" was the best wording
how the hell did a slasher like valentine cost 29 million dollars? That genre almost never gets that damn expensive!
29 mil isn't a lot for what they thought would be a Huge hit with young adults slasher movies were making money at the time.
so glad to see Cherry Falls being remembered and positively. this and urban legands
So glad you did this, I love Cherry Falls!
I've always liked Valentine. Sure it's not up there with the greats, but it's a film that I will rewatch at least once a year.
This was so fun! These are all films i saw as a kid and thought were scary/THE LIMIT but now they're just nostalgic comfort watches 💛💙💛
Love this video BTW
As a life-long horror fan 80s is my favorite decade of horror so good and really awesome soundtracks to horror movies. My 3 favorite 80s horror films are 1. Alone in the dark 1981 2. A nightmare on elm street 2 and 3. Nightmare on elm street 3
i don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about cherry falls before.
Stoked to see this get some love this was fav of the "scream" Era way more then scream. Also love the whole take on the killer dressing like his mother probably the only film to copy pyscho in that regard and pull it off.
Jay Mohr is the best. The giraffe tattoo cemented him as LEGEND
Toolbox Murders remake is so underrated. It is a mouldy wet uncomfortable film, with fantastic characters, and brutal monstrous kills.
3:39 my most favorite scene in entire history of cinema
Leaned about this movie in a nudie magazine from when it came out.
It's still on my list of need to watch. Finding a DVD is ideal
This is one of my favorite films of all-time because it’s like a time capsule of 2000s 😊😊. I feel like it’s fit for a modern remake with Alexa Demie playing Brittany Murphy❤❤
A CM Punk fan. Now I have to rethink all of your opinions
Valentine was fun she washed her hair in the toilet instead of the top reservoir?
Hicks and Newt alternate universe.
Remember Boreanaz was a wimp as a kid so he stayed a wimp. He was probably still intimidated by his bullies
Damn it I’ve never heard of it before
Haven't watched Cherry Falls in like 20 years. Good movie.
Devil’s Prey is my jam for barely seen early 2000s satanic slasher.
And here I thought I was the only one that has ever seen The Toolbox Murders (like 20 years ago). Pretty good film, but I've never heard anyone talk about it.
I was reminded of the older times when watching Jennifer's Body & Totally Killer, but I am NOT really an experienced horror fan, nor an expert.
Another awesome episode I love all the effort you guys put into this channel it's my favorite
a true slasher needs to have the whodunnit mystery element
Friday the 13th? Nightmare on Elm Street?
Good campy 2000's horror.
Ive watched valentine countless times. Its a fun movie, i watched for denise richards and i did love Scream, IKWYDLS, and Urban Legend so dont mind these kinda movies, tho wanted more, soundtrack was awesome too...kinda wanted Denise to be the lead or the other blonde who was set up at the end (cant remember her name) i have seen cherry falls once and am wondering if we will see a remake.
"..and Denise Richards is now on Only Fans.." Oof! 😂
Me and my friend love this movie. I think it matches or surpasses the other slashers of that period. Brittany is always fantastic.
“Look at Janet”
This was one of her best movies she was perfectly casted in this. But hell she was amazing in everything she did. She is missed.
This era of genre movies being made with the same look and production value of a tentpool action movie is so interesting. t's crazy to think Valentine was made for 28 million dollars in 2000s money. Imagine a youth targeted slasher/horror movie being made for 40 million today. This movie would cost under 10mil today.
You should do videos on Lloyd kaufman movies
when I heard about the It Follows sequel all I could think was that there should be an orgy scene like in Cherry Falls lol. I only watched recently and it's a great movie 🍒🔪
Cherry Falls IS my FAVORITE horror movie from the 00s. I just adore everything Brittany Murphy does, and I love the plot SOOO much.
Also, Denise Richards as Paige in Valentine is HUGELY UNDERRATED!!!! She definitely got the best lines. Especially the scene in the police station with Detective Vaughn.
Glad to see them both on ur thumbnail!
The toolbox Murders rule I wish it would get a Blu-ray I have the DVD
I still can’t watch her movies, just makes me too sad
I think Cherry Falls had a lot of missed potential but I like it for Britney Murphy but i think this could be remade
I've bashed the 2000's a lot, but I always say "I have a love/hate relationship with the 2000's." Because the early 2000's still felt like the late 90's; for better and worse. As a 12, 13, 14 year old [I was 13 when 9/11 happened which was 2001] I truly did feel like "horror movies, slasher movies SUCK NOW!" now it's all these super models as the actors. Horror has turned mainstream. Gone are the exploitation roots of the genre. They just aren't as good as the older films from the 80's. I just felt like the counterculture in the 90's had sold out; teen pop, MTV selling out and becoming the reality TV channel, reality TV, Bush era, 9/11, The financial crisis. In horror and movies, it was those terrible Seth Rogan and Adam Sandler movies, horror felt neutered, and at the same time "trying to be extreme" which just came off as style over substance. Films like Saw. Then you got the found footage, paranormal, and reality TV trend in horror.
Halloween: Resurrection and Freddy vs Jason being perfect examples of horror selling out in the 2000's. Halloween only had Busta Rhymes in it BECAUSE HE WAS BUSTA RHYMS. Why did FvsJ have a Jason Mews and Britney Murphy wannabes? BECAUSE THEY WERE POPULAR. Not an authentic "i'm gonna make my own movie" They lost their sleaze and exploitation factor. They forgot their counterculture roots.
That all said, I do still like a few 2000's horror movies. Cherry falls and Valentine among them. House of wax is another. I watch Valentine for Valentine's day every 3, 4, 5 years. I love the look of the killer, all the characters are interesting and likeable. The acting is top notch. I like the whole "Fat rich girl" plot of the movie and how that plays into the friendship, etc. The film also does a great job as a Valentine's day movie. I use to make my own comic books and I actually made a comic book sequel to the movie. "The strange thing about the narrative is that it's not exactly clear that she is the lead" I actually like that about the film. I like the fact that nobody is entirely the lead character. I also love the soundtrack, which features one of my favorite 90's bands; Orgy. Love their first two albums. Perfect albums. I was greatly disappointed and still am disappointed with their third album. Of course they also have Marilyn Manson on the soundtrack. So Orgy and Marilyn Manson, awesome combo for a soundtrack.
Also, with Valentine, I actually like the 2000's glossy L.A vibe. And ya, the kills have always been an issue, but I've learned to just not care and be like "well the kills are good enough. Ya, could of been better. Feels like the kills were way better before the MPAA, but still good. It's not like the kills are neutered that much and the rest of the movie greatly makes up for it."
Also....Bloody birthday is a bad movie?! And Slumber party massacre......man, Slumber party massacre is top of the list of best slashers ever made. I LOVE that movie. I watch it every single year. It checks every single box. The end of the movie, when Trish stabs Thorn, Thorn kills the P.E teacher - "I don't even know you..." and then Valerie comes out of the basement swinging that machete....I am just pumped full of adrenaline every single time and I love how Valerie moves with the machete in her hand, and how she chases him. Just awesome.
Toolbox murders. All I got to say is, I saw the remake when it aired on TV, but never really cared for it. The original Toolbox murders is a great depressing creepy as hell movie.
Also, I'm a fan of Ginger snaps, even like Ginger snaps 2.
May is probably my favorite horror film from the 2000's. Dario Argento's Sleepless. His last good film in my mind. Truly good film.
Let the right one Is good, Satan's little helper, All the boys love Mandy Lane, Scream 4 [the best sequel in my mind]. I like a few more, but not too many.
I like 28 days later and 28 weeks later. Despite the obvious issues including the rewriting of zombies for the decade. Sorry but I will always prefer the slow moving decaying zombies and I am hoping the new sequel 28 years later is a good follow up.
Maybe I should give the Toolbox murders remake another chance, it's hard for me to get over the 'remake" aspect.
Still waiting on "SHOCK EM DEAD" Traci Lords movie pls pls find this and review
A sequel could work. Present day. Jody could be the new killer. Like went psycho from what happened. My two cents.
Who is the actress next to Britney Murphy in the thumbnail picture?
Denise Richards
@@ILikeTheIvy was she in this movie?
Moire is less.

As good as this flick is, horrible Sorority Row is on the opposite end of the spectrum.
Cherry Falls was great...brittany was a babe
🍒 falls 🤭
first lol
This movie is a parody, brah! 😂 you're getting this all wrong 😂
Cherry Falls is barely mentioned these days and that's not ok. I really loved how it blatantly took out the whole "The sweet virgin will be the sole survivor" trope. Sex usually kills in horror. Here, sex will potentially save you. And I love the backstory and twist in it. Ugh. Doesn't get the love it deserves.
I genuinely enjoy Valentine. And of all the remakes that have happened since, I’d argue that Valentine is one of the more deserving to get a remake. Valentine is a movie that gets soooo close to fulfilling its potential, but it just misses by this much 🤏🏻
honestly same here, one of my favs
I love the longer videos it would be awesome if we could get more of these😍🫠
