  • Extra Stiff Shaft vs Stiff Shaft - On Course Test !!! Should you use an extra stiff driver shaft? Or a stiff shaft? After testing different shafts in the Taylormade m3 Driver heads I’ve taken two out onto the golf course for testing. X Stiff vs Stiff - an on course head to head. What driver shaft should you be using? What driver shaft should I be using? I answer all these questions in the video.

    After watching Mark Crossfield talk shafts and how little difference he found I was very interested to do this test for myself. Did I find similar outcomes? Could you just test shafts on a launch monitor and be done? Take a look to find out.

    I like a stiff on my driver, it took awhile to get used to it but love it now. As someone who was stung a dozen times last year, I totally sympathize.

    Yeah. I play stiff. But I've tried buddies clubs that play xstiff. No real difference in performance for ME, but I could feel the difference. Stiff just feels a little smoother for me.

    For a player with a "pro" swing I don't think the shaft would make that much of a difference - but to ordinary club players I think it can make a massive difference due to variations of swing styles. For 3 years I used a regular shaft and my drives were all over the place. I almost gave up using the driver. Someone told me that I had a fast swing and so a stiff shaft would suit me better. I changed to a stiff shaft and Ive been hitting fantastic ever since.

    Great test, James, even after being wounded. Vick's Vapor rub, keeps wasps, bees, and flies away just put a spot of it on the back of your t-shirt collar and it should work.

    I dont think its just the felx, but kick points to factor in. I hit an x-stiff, but I need a low kick point. if i use a mid/high, my shots go right, low kick, straight with a slight draw. Golf is a weird animal.

    Wasps in August in the UK are extremely hungry and are on a ravenous search for food, you must have looked like a tasty Wasp Breakfast. A little tip for the future James, waving your arms around stimulates their attack response and the little Buggers start stinging!

    That's a really good test ,I agree that x was slightly edging it ,not sure what length you were playing those shafts at James but I have gone down to 44.5 inches over the last year and find it way more consistent ,t dosen't sound much of a difference but its surprising what a slight change can make on consistency .Spending a lot of cash on drivers people should really get fit and ask the question ,driver shafts are getting too long to con people in to getting a few more yards from their drivers .

    James you have a pretty flat swing. I'm in the same boat. Currently I'm an 8 handicap looking to improve. I've tried to get my hands up into more of a two plane swing, but I just can't. My default is flat (years of playing baseball I think). My driver distance is right at 250 to 260 average. I'm not super long, but super accurate. I'd like to be longer, but just curious what are your swing thoughts/philosophy being a flat swinger? Thanks in advance!

  • @bc944
    @bc944 Před 4 lety

    what were the weights set up on your driver? We have a very similar swing (before your lessons.) I was fit for a Mizuno ST200G Dialed from 9.0 to 7.0.. with toe weight in fade position and heel weight in draw position...x stiff shaft. On the monitor I was bombing them straight. First time on course I couldn't hit it at all!!! Either slice or just a push... I am hoping that moving it back to standard...with both weights in draw position on the heel will give me the flight I want!

    question. say you took off your glove...do you still use extra stiff? one year I had to watch my spending and so I took off glove and somehow got better, then got worse, so I started switching things around. I realized I won't hit those right leakers with a solid strike If I wear a glove. if I go nice n easy I could go no glove and it would be pretty good. then put on glove but now I was hooking like it was sticking more. this past year I realized glove and if I get into hook trouble just swing slower and just pretend it's on line for money. I can't just attack with driver because it will spray even just a bit and my irons all stuff but I usually aim right because it's gonna draw a bit and sometimes I try cut and it'll pull and then go out of play. then i'll do a perfect bubba cut with my driver. so some holes I just aim right and then swing slower let the shaft and club do the work. I could swing 115 mph or more but that could be using more wrist action and it's risky and shafts bending on me so maybe I need to try xs in conclusion

    Excellent video... What is your opinion on the different shafts used by different club manufacturers? I am asking because the x-stiff shaft on Callaway drivers seem to be equal to the stiff shafts on Taylormade drivers. M4 with Aldilla stiff shaft was performing perfect but Rogue with Evenflo stiff was crappy until we tried it with the Evenflo x-stiff shaft and it made a huge difference to my consistency and dispersion. Evenflo x-stiff flex was similar to aldilla stiff flex.

      I just got fitted for a Callaway Rogue Sub zero driver. Callaway Rep said Even Flow Stiff shaft was my fitting with 100mph. What Crap. Lost 3 balls first round Due to inaccurate driving. Haven,t done that in 15 years. Getting refitted for driver shaft in 2 days time after complaining for 25 mins..Will insist on a extra stiff shaft this time.Also lost 25 meters distance off my drives compared to my M1 x stiff.
      Cross fingers this time.😠
