Diamana S63 (x-stiff) in the driver, UST Mamyia elements golf 6F4 (a "robust" stiff) in the 4 wood, KBS tour 130 (x-stiff) in the irons. Won't change, I'm very happy with them and if anything I tend to over spin and loose balls to the left, but that's more path related than shaft.

I’m a 78 year old with a swing speed of 83 mph. I replaced my Callaway Rouge STMax CYPHER 40g driver with Callaway’s AI Smoke Max Fast. It also is a 40g but the club feels lighter and “feels” better. I also went from 10.5* to 12* loft . Ball now launches higher with a slight draw and I’m hitting more fairways! Many things such as kick point and the dynamic loft in addition shaft weight must be considered. Great video!

I bought a new Cobra LTDX a couple years ago. Got fitted for a stiff shaft. The fitter said I was in between a stiff and x stiff. Since I am 69 years old, not getting any younger, I went for the stiff shaft. However, I also bought a senior flex, a regular flex, and x stiff flex shafts since it's very easy to switch them out. I spent about an hour and thirty mins. indoors and out. I gathered all the data from the launch monitor and found very little difference between each shaft. The best feeling shaft for me was the senior flex shaft. So that's the one I use most often. It feels like I can swing with less effort and get the same results as all the other shafts. It feels better, so I like it better... By the way, on the course I'm swinging the driver about 99-103 mph. To me the perceived effort is about 75%. With the more flexible senior shaft, I feel like I can let the shaft do the work instead of me.

I learned this fishing. Depending on the stiffness of the rod dictated the speed/force you use to cast. Go to fast and the cast was poor same with too slow. Match the cast to the rod and just right. Then there is fly fishing............... My second set of clubs was regular flex. I wanted a 2 iron and had borrowed one and hit it well but the shop only had one in stiff. Never could hit that damn thing.

I’m 50, my driver swing speed is around 105 mph, I can maybe squeeze out 110mph but then I’m in “spray it off the planet territory” and anything can happen. Fitters always default to giving me a stiff shaft, and sometimes extra stiff, but I always pick firm-ish regular flex, and that’s because I like the feel of regular around 60 grams. It does spin more but only a few hundred revs maybe I’m losing 5 or 10 yards, but it certainly doesn’t impact distribution for me, perhaps that would have been an issue years ago but quality has probably improved significantly since then. I think how something feels to the user and what their preferences are can override much of the conventional knowledge around who should use what. I still carry the ball 260-270 and roll out to 280-290 on average with the odd ball threatening 300 if I pure it and the conditions are right. I hit it harder on the range when there’s no penalty, sometimes when swinging the driver on the course I’m really holding back and I may only be swinging at 95 or 100 mph. I’m happy with regular flex that I know will work when swinging on course rather than something I have to swing my best for it to work for me.
PS David Byrne wants his jacket back 😂😏😉 (this dates me, I’m an old git, sorry!)
PPS I use regular in all my hybrid and fairways too, but use stiff steel in my irons

I’m 58 years old and have to realize I might need a softer shaft. My typical loss has been off to the right with the same loft driver and a regular flex all of a sudden I’m hitting a bullet straight, I love your video. Keep it up. I look forward to the next one.

How do you know if the torque is right for you? I never see anyone talk about torque, but I know it matters. I have one driver with a torque of 3, one with a torque of 6, and one with a torque of 8. They are all regular flex, which is the right stiffness for me. The torque of 3 feels stiff, while the 8 feels live, but a bit unpredictable. The 6 seems right to me. If I hit it right, I can feel it absorb, then release energy, giving the ball a nice snap, but not so much that the direction is unpredictable. My personal feeling is that the 6 is about right for me, but I don't know if I'm looking at the right things.

I was custom fit into an sr flex driver and wood shafts last year, and have been massively struggling with hooks as a result. I have to really slow my swing down to try and control it. I'm just waiting on the new Titleist drivers and woods to release so I can get fitted better at a new place as I don't have confidence in returning to the place that I believe incorrectly fitted me. This video confirms what I had expected that I was fit into the wrong shafts.

Every time I have swung one of these new fangled limp shafted massive head drivers I can barely hit the damn ball with them because the club head is still in the wrong zip code by the time I'm finished with the swing. Sorry I think recommending more flexible shafts to people to "fix" their drive should be met with some caution. I swing an old 975D on a stiff shaft way better than this modern limp stuff and I don't even golf very much. I did take a swing with a club recently with an ultra-stiff graphite shaft on a modern driver head and sent that ball dead nuts down the middle probably further than I have ever driven with little effort.

I went in to get a swing evaluation specifically because my driver miss is a push or push-fade right. My driver is a 9.5 degree Tour Edge Exotics EXS with a stiff PX Even Flow Riptide CB shaft. I figured there were two choices, right, either the club was not fit or set up right for me OR my swing had issues. I was surprised to see the data averages on my swing. I hit a few degrees in to out, a few degrees up, swung at ~103, launched at around 13 degrees, and had about 2400 rpm. The big issue was that the face was consistently about 6 degrees open. Dang, the problem is me! To his credit, the fitter said not to buy a new driver, but didn't say anything about shaft. Would getting fit into a different shaft potentially help me close the face, or was the fitter right to suggest some lessons?

Simple logic of physics proves what you are saying is in fact the exact opposite of reality dude. A shaft that is too flexible will be lagging behind the grip at contact with the ball and therefore the face is aiming lower and the face will be more open. Just take a second to think about that.

100%... I'm new to golf but pretty naturally athletic and in good shape. Played lots of sports. I was using a stiff flex driver, and slicing shots / getting high spin. I went to get fitted for a driver to see what my issues could be, turns out 110mph club head speed is too much for stiff shafts and they are still flexing in the impact zone, leading to unpure contact, namely open club face. I got fitted for an X stiff and also 10g heavier to help me control the swing better, as my strength is too far ahead of my control and finesse.

@brandonmonhollen7638 uh, no.. like he said a shaft that is too flexible lags behind the grip. It is still flexed at impact. As in not straight. My swing speed is high enough where that happens for me with a stiff flex, hence I got fitted for an extra stiff.

I have recently bought a Ping 425 sft with a a regular 55 gram shaft. I found im hitting my drives an average of 10-15 yards farther than i was with my Taylormade m3 with a Ventus 5.A senior flex. Im not sure if that is down to slightly newer technology in both shaft and club head or the flex of the shaft, probably both. As for driving my last round i used the driver off 14 tee's, 7 on the fairway, 4 to the right and 3 left. My overall average for my driver is 42% fairway, 29% left and 29% right! But that is a combination of both drivers since the new year. I have no idea of my club head speed, my maximum for ball is 150, and average about 137mph at the range. Again a mixture of both drivers. Ive been using the Ping for about 2 months. In my irons i use senior flex and im hitting them pretty well.

Club head * smash factor = ball speed.

    • @jonbuikema7399
      @jonbuikema7399 Před měsícem

Max drivers by any brand tend to spin more to get that high MOI. More spin increases accuracy and forgiveness. Not sure what ball you play but maybe do a ball fitting. Shafts can help too but that is a more expensive option. A stiffer version can decrease spin some. There are options of regular with a butt and mid section more stiff and kick point less stiff to keep launch good. Weigh the averages. A few yard more but less accurate might not be ideal. Good luck!

Now I used to be my own club builder for about 20 years. My driver always had a stiff shaft, but my irons were regular flex. You CANNOT go by your driver swing speed to find the right flex for your irons. You have to swing that iron and see what that swing speed is.
I see way too many iron sets for sale that have extra stiff shafts in them. That’s why they are for sale. They don’t work. The average male
Golfer swings a driver at 93.4 mph. The average PRO LPGA player swings at 94. You men need to be paying kore attention to what the female pros are using and not the men. We cannot swing like them. Regular flex
For irons for most all average male golfers is right. Stiff or extra stiff and someone is dreaming and thinking with testosterone instead of their own brain.
Now this guys explanation as to how each shaft Worx is laughable. He has no clue. He has not see a
Graphite shaft in slow motion. Don’t listen to him on shafts. Go have your iron swing speed checked and you will be shocked how low it is.
I could, back in my good old days, swing a driver 102mph. My irons however were only at 72mph. Huge difference. Stop using what the profession men are using. Don’t even go with the women. Go with what your swing speed says you should use. And for your irons, go swing a 7 iron and see what your REAL swing speed is and get them shafted accordingly. Almost no average golfer should be using anything more than regular flex in their irons. I
Am now 73 and have dropped to a regular flex in my driver shaft.
    I am
Going to continue with tips for wedges. Learn what BOUNCE is for. Too many use wedges with way too low of a bounce angle. Most but wedges not even looking at that number then wonder why they can’t hit them. You need o no ore bounce than a pro golfer who swings like a robot. Many of them would benefit from more bounce. My lowest bounce wedge is 12 degrees and my 60 degree wedge is 14. Not many make a 14 anymore on a lob wedge. Learn these number. Pay attention to them
Teaching pros ignore them also because they never built clubs themselves before. I have. I learned they why behind those numbers and the wedge makers are now knot making what is POPULAR instead of what it right. Saves them money not having to make a 14 or higher bounce. One less machine to use.
Good luck with your games, and think and play smart, not what the pro men are using. Use what is best for YOU.
