  • We picked up a new rear end for the Camaro a couple of weeks ago and get it installed. We also get some cosmetic things done as well. Check out the video to see what we find.

I have an 80 Z28. Had 3 leaves on each side stock,1 was broke on the one side & 2 leaves broke on the other. I ordered the 5 leaf heavy duty when replaced them & was able to get rid of the air shocks since the springs gave the extra clearance which was nice. I have 295/50-15s on the back.

I guess I’m not the only one. Im trying to put my 79 Z28 back together and it’s not as easy because I didn’t document well enough! Mine is completely to a bare shell. I need to put the rear end back in and this helped a lot. Im going through your videos, do you have anything about putting the front subframe back on and squaring it? That’s the part that scares me the most. Great taste in music BTW, I think we are close to the same age. I live in San Antonio TX and of course I pick the beginning of our horrible summer heat to start this 🙄🙄

We never messed with the subframe. sorry. Good luck with the project. They are worth it in the end. And thanks for watching !

Get the Fisher Body Manual for 1979. It will specify the alignment specs for subframe, body, and subframe+body. The Chevy Factory Assembly Manual will specify the torque for the bolts.

I have a 1978 Camaro it never even occurred to me when I bought it that it was only a one-wheel peel and who does a burnout on a test drive of somebody else's car?..lol. now I want to put posi rear end in but I know nothing about it and I don't have a garage. So unless I can find some help from knowledgeable people with a garage in my local area I think I'm going to have to pay someone what would be better to replace the whole rear end? Or just the differential inside the pumpkin housing? Anybody have any idea how much that would cost about?

You can put a posi carrier in with out swapping rearends. But with parts a decent shop is gonna charge you around1000 or more to do the work good luck. Thanks for watching!

Why didn't you film what did to paint the rear? It looked really nice afterwards in the video, did you use POR or Eastwood or something similar?

So just brush off the big chunks of rust and ready to paint?(of coarse degreased first)

We wirebrush usually. This rearend was super clean and had been pressure washed.
