We are a couple who share a love of working on old vehicles, especially Chevy trucks, with an emphasis on DIY and budget builds. We are currently working on a 1980 2nd Gen Camaro that we picked up from Mortske Repair last summer. We think it will fit in well and are pretty excited to get it running and on the road and who knows, maybe to the drag strip as well. The Chevy 3+3 is currently on hold while we work on the Camaro, mostly due to our limited garage space. It will be back Summer 2022 though!
Chevy 350 Engine Build for the 49 Chevy pickup.
Things have been hectic to say the least at our house for almost the last year: job changes, medical issues, family things. We finally made back into the garage to start building a motor for the 49 Chevy pickup. We usually drive this truck the most and have really missed being able to use it. I mean, it still runs but the city we live in would think we are fogging for mosquitos as bad as the oil leak in the motor is. Check out the video to see how we progressed on the new motor!

Summer’s over and we are back in the garage on a more regular basis now. It’s time to make the 1977 Chevy square body crew cab all one color instead of looking like the coat of many colors. We still have body work to do on the doors and box sides but winter is coming and we want to be able to drive it this winter. Im no mechanic but I can change parts😂 . I was going to get me a 350 and build one for a 3rd gen camaro. Not sure if i was going to go with a roller cam or just a flat tappet cam. Not sure the price difference. I wasn't going for a race engine either. Just something with a little horsepower with a good lope sound. It will bey first engine I build too😂. Just tired of all the computers and sensors. Time to go back old school and keep everything simple.
You can do it! Thanks for watching
LONG time no see, hope all has been well. And good to "see" you back!!
been some time can understand, Glad to see you two plus the hound (we have two of them) back up and going the idiot butthead in the greenhouse sure has trashed OUR country so do understand
My current project is removing the engine/trans, interior and all the good parts from a wrecked 82 Z28 donor with 45,500 original miles and swapping it all over to an 84 Z28, I also have a 91 swb 4.3 5-speed Silverado and a 73 Mercury Comet I'm working on.
Nice !! Projects are a good thing. Good luck thanks for watching!
@@LandsharkGarage Thank you, new subscriber and looking forward to hearing that 350 run.
Cotter key trick! I use a straight pick, pound it thru the round bit and then use the void with needle nose to grab and twist
Looks like a solid little unit. You're going to love using that to drill out spot welds! Just make sure you can reach the other side to plug weld the new metal on when you use it that way.😎👍
Looks like a workhorse. Great Video!
Nice 49.. love to have one myself.. thx for sharing...
Nice video thx
I’m glad someone decided to post video on a crewcab, I have a 87’ Suburban and the floors are the same and I have to do basically hte same
It sure has been a challenge. Thankyou for watching we appreciate it!!

Great Video. Love ur Camero Project. Have a 79 Camero project car and wondering if u have or no if anyone that has a working gauge cluster for sale in NE SD??
Not right off the top of my head I don’t but if I hear of one I will let ya know Thanks for watching
Appreciate it.
Would that work running off of an air compressor?
Yes it does Need air. Not sure how small of one it would accept. Mine is 60 gallons so I never have air issue. Smaller compressor might not have enough volume
@@toddlandmark6318 thanks!
I really want to make sure I get the right part for my tahoe 2001. Do you have the oem part number?
No I don’t sorry
Ive done a lot of work/electrical work on my 2002 tahoe and I never disconnect the battery (even tho i should) only time ive disconnected was when i put my amp in but thays because i had to connect it to the postive termal. But they window control is missing the clips at the bottom of it thats why it isnt staying in and you can just remove it without having to pry it off. I had the same problem but all that trim and covering is just kinda pushed in except for the door/dash and the back/trunk the doors in the front have 1 screw under the handle to close the door and the back/trunk has 1 bolt that holds the cover in place and the dash has like 5 or 6 bolts and 6 screws that hold the cover on. Everything else just seems to be pushed in place. The way they have the regulator in there sucks ass because you have to go into the door with a ratchet and they dont give you a whole lot of room to work.
It turned out great . I am doing a 51.
you didnt narrow the 8.8?
No I didn’t it was a little off set but not too bad
Can you send me this? I'm from srilanka. I can pay to you.
what did you do with the 305?
I know you already said you arent thrilled with the 305 sb but perhaps think twice before you heave it, if you cam them for torque and run small tube headers and and small 4 barrel carb you'll have an engine that drives like a 350 but drinks like a v6, these motors arent as prone to over heating as the other small blocks and are very reliable and easy to care for. But I already saw you did put a 350 into it already, but dont just throw the 305 away, if you need an easy to feed and fix v8 for just getting around the 305 isnt a boat anchor at all, its what powered millions of gm products through the 70s and 80s.
Hey thanks for watching. I sold the 305 and trans together. I’m not a big hater of the 305. But that one was shot and I had a 350 ready to go. 305 are a very reliable motor. Thinking about selling the Camaro. To many projects! Thanks again for watching Hopefully we get another episode out shortly
@@toddlandmark6318 well at least it went to a good home! I put one into a 74 Camaro and put a torque cam into it along with a small carb to get better mileage while enjoying a v8 ride; it pulls about 15 mpg in town and 24 on the hi way, so it reached its goal of being a reliable and fun to drive time machine that you can drive everyday, something most fast cars never wind up doing, with their huge fuel appetite!
Do you by chance still have the part number for the actuator? I can’t seem to find a kit anywhere.
Podrá traducirlo al español

G80 locker, they work well when there not broken. If you spin one axle fast enough they lock in via the counter weights. Great in a daily if your not beating the snot out of them!
I’m pretty nice to the 49 Usually. thanks for watching!
GM RPO Code G80 rear locking differential or Gov lock uses centrifugal force flyweights to lock the axle shafts together very fragile
I have the factory mirror mounted on my 51 on the cowl on the drivers side . I see you have a similar mirror mounted on the passenger side of your 49. How well does it work... can you see? Just was wondering before i ordered a matching set online. Thanks
Yes it works very well. Thanks for watching!
It is pretty good for me I like it
That center piece on the cowl grill is where the in-glass T antenna wires go down into the car to connect to the radio. Did the new windshield have the T antenna? 😊
Do you plan to paint the doghouse at some point? 😊
Nice Berlinetta! I'd like to see what you do with the scratched door glass.
WOW it never had A/C and that was the luxury model. I wonder where it was original from. Maybe Alaska? haha!!😂
There is a video where Mrs l tackles the scratches. It did have ac. We deleted it. Thanks for watching
@@LandsharkGarage Okay cool! I'll have to watch all the Camaro videos to see which one. Thanks!!
I have a 1978 Camaro it never even occurred to me when I bought it that it was only a one-wheel peel and who does a burnout on a test drive of somebody else's car?..lol. now I want to put posi rear end in but I know nothing about it and I don't have a garage. So unless I can find some help from knowledgeable people with a garage in my local area I think I'm going to have to pay someone what would be better to replace the whole rear end? Or just the differential inside the pumpkin housing? Anybody have any idea how much that would cost about?
You can put a posi carrier in with out swapping rearends. But with parts a decent shop is gonna charge you around1000 or more to do the work good luck. Thanks for watching!
If you use the 307 crank in the 350 you can make it a 327(with a standard 350 bore) . And you can make the 307 into a 328 with the 350 crank (with the standard 307 bore). Only problem with that is that you have to tear both engines down at the same time. Dealer's choice.😎👍
😅that sound like a lot of work 😂😂😂. Thanks for watching ! The engine is gonna be fun it’s been a few years I might be a little rusty !
@@toddlandmark6318 Yeah, maybe something to think about for something else?😁👍
