Actually, but i'm not totally sure, it's something that happens in the original novels. Even in Dr. House, which is also inspired to the stories of sherlock holmes, House's best friend has like three divorces caused by his frequent cheatings.

L H While I condemn it I understand it in the scope of the character. John craves excitement and danger, and can you honestly think of anything more dangerous than cheating on Mary??? Plus it adds to his guilt and self loathing, which he can now transfer to Sherlock.

yah that pretty much was the reason why i wasnt crying about mary's death, i was more pissed off at John for cheating and then blaming Sherlock for Mary's death. While I understand that when Mary died he was grieving, but still. Although i did read on Tumblr that perhaps sherlock had a dream that John was cheating and perhaps there is more to that women. At the same time, John is known as a womanizer. But yah I was pissed at him

it was a bit melodramatic but not unrealistic. in Sherlocks mindpalace, Mycroft tells him the next thing that'll kill him is the shock, he was caught by surprise that Mary shot him.
Mary on the other hand is a former agent + she jumped in front of the bullet, expecting being shot. It could be that this just bought her the seconds of conciousness.
Another possibility is that, since she was shot directy in the chest, her heart continued beating for a couple of seconds. There are people who survived a bullet to the heart, so it is possible
JennyM1998 If Sherlock didnt even have time to react to the bullet being shot, Mary did not have enough time to throw herself infront of it. (Plus, there was a spurt of blood, not big, but it was there)

Okay, honestly, I was so bloody devastated that she died and I was a total and utter mess at the end of the episode and couldn't even smile for HOURS after that. But after some thinking I did during this week, I came to a (subjectively opinionated) conclusion that she served her role in the story. She was an important character to bring out Sherlock's humanity a bit even though he still conceals it and thinks that it's absolutely pathetic. She brought some more angst and drama to the show and overall was perfect for as long as she was here because after this I think her role would have slowly become insignificant to the plot and she would kind of just be existing in this universe where every single person has a part to play. I think she arrived at the perfect time and died at the perfect time as well. What I do wanna see is how Sherlock and Watson's relationship builds around this...

When Mary died, I cried so hard because I was so surprised and she and John almost made amends and loving each other again. Since the Hobbit, I had not been so attached to a character like I was with Mary and her death shocked me. (Also, her death had Martin Freeman reacting to it and that made me cry even more)

When I saw the slow mo of the bullet flying towards Sherlock something clicked in my mind and I said "Mary no" the second those words left my lips Mary had jumped in front of the bullet and I was left a crying mess at the end.

Rewatched/ relistened first 6 seconds for like 5 times :D
I felt really sad after the episode. Especially when she said :"Being Mary Watson was the only life worth living". She obviously loved John with all her heart and soul. Remember the lady at the beginning of the episode?. The lady that was "flirting" with John. What John did didn't seem right. He was obviously married to Mary and no one else. He was texting that woman. And when the woman gave him her number, he just saved it in his contacts! That's not RIGHT!. What he did was definitely wrong and that didn't sit well with me. This episode also comes to show that no matter how dark and arrogant a person can be, they can still have a bit of love inside of their hearts. Like Sherlock. Sherlock promised that he would do anything to keep Mary safe from harm. Something that Watson never promised. Now I seem to have more empathy for Mary. Amanda Abbington's portrayal of the character is ICONIC, in my opinion. No one could have done it better. Now I started to have more empathy for Mary and I have grown to love her a lot more since the episode first aired. Benedict Cumberbatch is amazing as Sherlock and Martin Freeman is amazing as Dr. John Watson. Sherlock is an amazing show with an amazing cast. All of these dedicated and hardworking actors have delivered such ICONIC performances that will be rememebered for generations to come. I LOVE SEASON FOUR!
Please can you have Andrew Scott introduce all of your videos, because that was a real treat! :)
