The casting of sherlock and watson was absolutely genius but there is something to be said about the sheer perfection of andrew as moriarty. Just spectacular!

My favorite scene with Moriarty is when he broke into the Tower of London's secured room. By the end of it I was laughing and applauding! Brilliant!

in the last 15 years two different actors have gotten Academy Awards for playing the Joker (though yes I"m aware 1 of those performances happened after Sherlock was finished with its run) decades before that Jack Nicholson gave one of his most well known performances when he gave a portrayal of the Joker that is still recognized as a historic villian to this day. All this to say, the Joker is a very popular character. I will always be convinced that an awareness of this had at least SOMETHING to do with how Sherlock decided to approach its take on Moriarty. Kind of Ironic because Sherlock Holmes is so iconic and influential, and in modern times its actually attempting to imitate many of the things it inspired in the first place.
Not the strongest episode, but to me Andrew Scott did his very best acting in the final episode of Sherlock. and by far his very worst acting was done in his very first scene at the pool. As the show went on he progressively got better and better, and I don't believe that it's just because his take is an aquired taste. While he stayed consistent enough, and never gave the character a complete overhaul, he got further and further from being a wannabe joker, and gradually felt more and more like he was doing his own thing.

I love that Andrew Scott. How can an actor be so Moriarty and so the Sexy Priest and so great probably as Mother Theresa.
