  • I drop test the Surefire G2X with MaxVision head on concrete multiple times and do a beam comparison with the Surefire G2X Defender. I also discuss the features of the light, it's construction, and what I think of it overall.

I have carried Surefire flashlights for over 20 years, first as a police officer, and for EDC now that I am retired. I used my lights so much that I would have gone broke if they were not rechargeable. I mainly carry a Surefire Peacekeeper, which I have a small belt holster for. It looks like the light you featured today, except that it has an aluminum body and uses the 18650 rechargeable batteries. I also have a R1 Lawman model, which uses the 18650 battery also, but plugs into a charger (ac or dc) but also has a stick that you can swap out that takes the CR123 batteries. It seems like anymore, Surefire has gone away from the rechargeable batteries. I have been interested in the rechargeable Olight flashlights that you have highlighted. Good review. Love the channel.

Surefire is doing good with the maxvision stuff. They need to make them with a single output like the other g2x's.

I have the GX2 Pro 600 lumen model but I didn't even know about this Max Vision version. I'm really disappointed that Surefire hasn't adapted this flashlight to take 18650 batteries since it would give a much better battery life plus save a ton of money in the long run. Streamlight has finally started offering some of their CR-123 only flashlights with "dual fuel" CR-123 and18650 capabilities and I suspect that Surefire will eventually do the same. Thanks for the excellent review.

Surefire can take 16650 batteries though. 18650 doesnt fit, but 16650 does. It works without any problem.

I bought 3 SF lights on a sale for family. When I cranked it up it was on low then click again for HI. That's what happens when you don't read the fine print. This was from the SF website too. Oh well, for what I bought them for they will work fine. Just a NO-GO as a weapon light.

The Tactical throws the high beam first and then low beam on the second click. I for some reason like the Pro because it throws the low beam first. I found that a lot of the time that the high beam was too much light right off the bat for indoor functions, whether it's not discreet at the moment/giving us away, or blinding my partners and I. 600 SUREFIRE lumen is a lot indoors. Lol

My first Surefire light didn't even say Surefire, it had Laser Products. Every time I go to a conference where they are going to be there I bring my old light and they check it after trying to buy it. I carried that light for many years while on duty and it has been placed in retirement. My go to lights is Surefire and you cannot go wrong with Surefire products.

I enjoy your reviews, however, you should really put to the test the myth that "rechargeables shut off suddenly and leave you in the dark". This may have been true when using 2xRCR123's, but with a single LiIon, I think you'll pleasantly surprised. In my experience running a single 18650 or 16650 in lights designed to run on 2xCR123's, the lights have a very long and gradual taper as the voltage drops. See for yourself. Keep up the good work.

i think rechargeables are fine nowadays as long as it is a quality cell. for example if a surefire cr123a is a li ion panasonic with a surefire wrapper on it and its good to go...why wouldnt panasonic 18650s be just as good just because it is rechargeable? it is also li ion.
for back up or storage of course ill have a dozen cr123a's on hand for the next 10 years with some in my bag and car to swap out. some lights vary so youll get different runtimes but its usually better.
but then again im not leo or first responder so i can take the risk..and i do. i carry a tactician with a 16650 in it but i do have 2 pairs of surefire cr123a's in my bag. i did have a 16650 go bad after 2 years? so i replaced it for a whopping 10 dollars and use it everyday again. it was in my fury pro, now like i said, my tactician.
