      If durability is what you need, get an Elzetta Z Line Modular flashlight. The Bravo model is my favorite. Surefire is good but an Elzetta Bravo or Charlie model crushes Surefire durability. Just don't get the new budget friendly G Line of lights. Those are standard lights. Z Line is the best quality.

    I never even paid attention that Olight was made in China. I just fell in love with M2T Warrior and PL-Mini weapon light. They've been rock solid performers at a seriously good price point. I would love to save for a surefire but for one Surefire EDCL2-T I can get One Olight M2T with same features and one PL-Mini plus a free keychain light or something as Olight always gives me something for free.

    I can envision Surefire going the way of Blockbuster, Polaroid and Blackberry. They used to be the Top Dog in the industry 20 years ago, but are pricing themselves out of the market. This is especially true given - in this example - given the lack of a strobe and Surefire's ongoing failure to embrace the 18650 because they want to sell you spendy CR123s. So Surefire does make a solid light, but they are not worth twice the price of similar offerings from Fenix, Olight, Nitecore, etc. Great review as always. Thanks.

      They aren’t going anywhere. They make more than just flashlights. However most professionals who have to carry a pistol or rifle for work still use Surefire as THE go to light. They also make great Earpro, plus they sell Cans to the Military, and most SWAT teams in the US. I doubt any of those other “flashlight only” makers have that kind of product line or contracts. But hey, thats just the way I see it.

    Somebody on CPF tested this light and found that the 1200 lumens starts to drop almost immediately after turning on with a fresh set of batteries and you end up under 1k in just a few minutes, plus the batteries drain like mad. Kind of sad since the 1T runs at max for 30 minutes! For me it's the smaller 500lm light or the Tactician which runs 15 minutes before starting to drop slowly from that 800lm it pushes. The 2T is a bit of a disappointment to me due to the quick battery drain on 2 cells.

    Been carrying a Tactician for the past two months and pretty happy with it. The clip up of the Tactician is a bit annoying (sticks out pretty far from the pocket and also jabs in the gut when bending over to tie shoes). • @thebadness6217
      @thebadness6217 Před 6 lety +1

      i'm in the middle. I own my fair share of surefires, but i also don't like spending an arm and a leg for some flash lights. So when i need additional lights for non firearms use, i go with malkoff. They use regular CREE emiters instead of their own proprietary ones like surefire does, but they also have fully potted electronics, so they're all shock resistent, like surefires.
      I'm also moving away from any cr123a powered flashlights for edc use....because frankly...spending $2-$4 every time i need to put new batteries in a flashlight, sucks.
      And i'm way to careless and lazy to use rechargables. I bought a bunch of rechargable eneloops from amazon and costco and i think i've lost about half of them.

    • @clonesharpshooter101
      @clonesharpshooter101 Před 2 lety

      @Bas Biemans My opinion might be a grain of salt considering I’ve never been in a self-defense scenario- but crenellations on a flashlight would likely bring nothing beneficial from using just a normal bezel.
      The crenellations on flashlights that feature them are never deep enough to significantly injure someone beyond what an impacting strike from a flashlight would intend to deliver. Realistically, you’d only be doing superficial cuts to someone that could have a communicable disease that spreads through bodily fluids, which you don’t want on you.
      Practically speaking, crenellations will also chew through your pants’ pockets faster because of the raking motion of stuffing them into your pocket repeatedly.
      The shallow features of the more common scalloping on Surefire flashlight bezels is a bit more practical, because it isn’t sharp enough to burden your pocket and also allows for easy recognition if the light is turned on or not if it sits on a surface with the tail cap facing up.
      Once again, I don’t have any experience with this kind of thing, but it seems to me that the blunt trauma of the flashlight is what matters more than the small slices you achieve using a “defense” light. If you know any resources that prove my theory wrong, I’d like to hear it out, though.

  • @Kurnurs
    @Kurnurs Před 6 lety

    Surefire finally catching back up to reality now it seems. For a while their lights have been pretty underpowered as well as only taking proprietary or non-rechargeable batteries. Glad to see them fixing their line-up, a lot of their new lights are finally getting to current lumen levels and they're using some 18650's which has been standard with other manufacturers for a few years now.

      My 500 lumen Surefire Fury is as bright as my 900 lumen Fenix PD35

    • @Kurnurs
      @Kurnurs Před 6 lety

      Your fury is probably just a more focused beam -- less lumens, but higher candela. That, combined with the fact that the human eye doesn't perceive lumens additively, more like logarithmically. So 900 lumens isn't twice as bright as 450 lumens, it's more like 25% brighter. To have the human eye perceive a 2x jump in brightness, you need roughly 4x the lumens. So 4k lumens will look "twice as bright" as 1000 lumens.

    • @hollowpoint45acp
      @hollowpoint45acp Před 6 lety

      Snared sure thing, but their lights are not underpowered by comparison

    • @Kurnurs
      @Kurnurs Před 6 lety

      Compared to manufacturers like Nitecore, Olight, Fenix, Klarus, Acebeam, Armytek, and many others yeah they have been underpowered for a while. They are just now getting back in the game, for the last 5+ years they've been at like half the lumens of these manufacturers for 4x the price. They're durable, sure, but these manufacturers have lights that are durable as well. Not to mention these other manufacturers have been innovating with magnetic charging, better ui's, way better moonlight/low modes, as well as other innovations.

M2t has my vote being that it uses 18650s and I've been using a streamlight 2lx with an 18650 and loving how it costs very little to run over time. You don't have to worry about using it too much or practicing too much if it's rechargeable.

    I have an EDCL2-T as my current EDC, but I'm on the lookout for a replacement. I like the gas pedal activation, but that's about where my praise stops. 1200 lumens sounds great on paper, but it's only pushing 11,300 candela, so not much throw or usable light. Also, the 5 lumen low mode is just useless.

    Nice light, but surefire is still behind the times with those cr123a batteries. (just my opinion). Why not 18650's ? Longer run times and not much bigger than 2 cr123a batteries. Great review .

      CR123s have a shelf life of around 10 years. Recharable lithium batteries are much more finicky when subjected to time/temperature.

    Major neg for the light is, unlike many competitors, it can't use rechargeable 18650 batteries. Why can't Surefire engineer this!

      Mrgunsngear Channel there is a video of a guy exploring a cave while testing out a new flashlight. In the cave, he starts hearing whispers and decides to go further in. The guy just thinks it’s the win, but can clearly hear one of the whispers say “You can’t see me, I’m a shadow among the shadows.” Instead of running out, he just walks back. The video is called Creepy Sounds Captured in an Abandoned Mine While Reviewing the ThruNite TN12 Flashlight

  • @roushspeedfreak1989

    I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about. Price & 18650 battery compatibility?!? For real? First lesson folks, don't buy direct from surefire, that saves a lot of coin. I can't tell you how many reputable vendors I've found on eBay that sell for much less than surefire or other popular vendors. And who are all these people using 18650 rechargeables? Who honestly has the time to ensure that all of their batteries are charged? Not me. Been there, won't do it again. CR123's are cheap these days. Look around 🤷‍♂️ My only complaint is that I'm not a fan of the "tactical" lights. I prefer a clickable switch. So instead of this model I would own a P3X fury for similar output. Which I do 😉 Thanks for the review!

      Most everybody that carries lights run 18650s. That you don't doesn't make it not so

    • @roushspeedfreak1989
      @roushspeedfreak1989 Před 6 lety +1

      hollowpoint45acp could have fooled me. I guess it all depends on what circles you run in. I literally was sitting here thinking that the 18650 battery craze was a fad that ended almost 10 years ago because people didn't want to pay inflated prices for CR123's. That pricing simply does not exist any longer. But whatever floats your boat. 👍

      I never got on board with rechargeable batteries. Especially like you said when you can get the lights and the batteries at good prices from dealers. I think a box of 12 for around $18 and that will last me about a year. And when you literally have 12 different lights in rotation there’s no way to keep that many batteries topped off plus not to mention that I’d probably need to have 12 different chargers in my house, at multiple job sites, in multiple vehicles. The logistics become unreasonable. Not to mention that Murphy WILL Pop up at the worst possible time & the battery will either fail or will have self discharged enough to be unusable. Heck I have a hard enough time keeping 2 iPhones & 1 iPad charged enough just to make it through one day. And that’s with having 15 different chargers staged....... but that’s just me. Haha

    Any tactical reason why the tail end of these flashlights don’t come flush with the compression button so they can stand on end and act like a candle light? I feel like there could be a type of tactical reason for standing it on its end as a light source such as a first aid or rescue type situation in a dark space.
    Honestly the light on that Olight seemed better and I hate to say that because it’s not the American one LOL. I will try to focus on the fact that the Olight is less durable.
    Are Surefire flashlights usb or otherwise rechargeable? Asking because those 123 batteries are expensive.

      steven leflar okay, I found the post again....
      "FYI, just got off the phone with Surefire, they say the EDCL2-T's candela is 25,000 and that they don't have runtime regulation info. I assume regulation is P3X-like, since 1,200 is unsustainable on 2xCR123A, which means we're actually talking 12,500 candela with a brief 2x burst. Assuming same LED and optics, that puts the EDCL1-T at 5,200 candela + burst."
      Again....just some dude on the internet...who knows if he actually spoke to them.

    • @stevenleflar5152
      @stevenleflar5152 Před 6 lety +1

      animalmother556x45 no worries, my HL-X still has more candela and I don’t see any reason in switching anytime soon. But it is good to see surefire competing.

    • @animalmother556x45
      @animalmother556x45 Před 6 lety +1

      steven leflar The reason to switch will be WHEN your HLX takes a dump.....way too many people fell into the Streamlight trap due to these HLX lights...they just plain forgot about Steamlight's quality issues. Now, I keep seeing dude after dude saying his HLX flickers, the switch doesn't work, etc. Now they are going back to surefire.
