Where are you in the world? Which of these ideas will you try?
South Africa😍🇿🇦Definitely wanna try the radio one!!
Am in Kenya have been watching tv and using practice Portugese. Thank you
Im in Germany :-)
England,listening to music
Aveiro, Portugal! Will try Conjuguemos, Deckmill, and the new movie on Netflix sounds awesome! Of course, who can resist a dog and cat friendship?!
I appreciate you so much. I speak fluent Portuguese (Brazilian) and I’m moving to Portugal and this channel is helping me transition to European Portuguese
So glad to hear it!
Good Work! Finally, a decent youtube teacher of Portugual style Portuguese. In New England, people want this . For years the only online Portuguese teachers I recommended were Street Smart Brazil and Tafalado .
Obrigada Liz, as always 👍🥰Got some fresh ideas!
This is an amazing video Liz!!!! Thanks so much for this!!! 😍😍😍
So glad it helps!!
Thank you, Liz!!
You really are amazing👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks for the advice! Traveling to Portugal for the first time in June! :)
Olá 👋 Firstly I just want to say that your channel and your videos are really, really good. I have been speaking Portuguese for about 15 years now. I had no formal learning. I taught myself and then when I went to the Algarve on holiday I spoke to locals and learned from my mistakes. This also gave me the opportunity to work one summer in Vilamoura too. I visit Madeira every year with my friend who is from there and stay with his family.
I have been looking for a way though to keep my Portuguese up to speed whilst in England and now I’ve found your channel! Ótimo 👌 muito obrigado 🙏
🇵🇹 Interested to know difficulties of English people learning Portuguese especially phonetics. You are such um achado!
Super helpful. Obrigada!
Liz you are wonderful thank you so much for sharing this. Im super excited:-)
Getting comments like this helps so much thank you!!
Era tudo o que eu precisava. Bom vídeo.
Woohoo! So glad!
such a brilliant video thank you :)
Yayyy so glad its useful to you!!
Muito obrigado! It took me a few minutes to update my Netflix settings to Portuguese spoken and Portuguese subtitles, but have now watched (most of) the first episode of "Até Que a Vida Nos Separe". Based on your videos, putting Post-it notes around the house, Memrise, Drops, etc for past months, I understand maybe 5% ...and usually a moment or two AFTER it is said :) ...But OMG, it's coming :) ...and some of the little things like "ui, ui" are right in there with the flavor of Talk the Streets. Cheers from Florida (first visit to PT coming early May this year).
Sooo glad to hear this channel has helped and you are getting there!
As an European Portuguese native speaker I’m finding Liz’s videos very interesting to share with non-native speakers that want to learn european portuguese. I haven’t watch them all yet but I was wondering if it would be interesting for Liz to make a video regarding regional differences with some words we use for simple things like ordering a beer (fino/imperial) or a coffee milk (garoto/pingo) or a bowl (tigela/malga) or refering to a bus (camioneta/autocarro), etc… It’s a small country but besides slightly different regional accents there are different words that might confuse someone learning European Portuguese and trying to listen in for conversations between native speakers in the north or south of Portugal (Madeira and Açores islands having even stronger accent differences and words also). Congratulations and keep up the good work!
Super cool tips. Muito obrigada! We will check out Lingo Pie for sure :)
Hope you like it!
LA! Really wanna move to Lagos or Ericeira. The radio idea was a great tip 👍 Thanks
Enjoy listening to the radio and hope you get to Portugal sooon!
Very interesting and useful video, obrigado from an Indian of New Delhi
Of course, I want to SEE THAT!
So glad to see you here still Jody!
@@TalktheStreets I often watch your videos! Just don’t usually take time to comment. This one was above and beyond helpful. I checked Conjuguemos and Deckmill! We host a small class in our apartment once a week with a local teacher…plugging away!
Thanks for all the content Liz. It's really given me lots of ideas to learn English outside of Portugal.
One thing that would be really interesting is to know about accessing RTP outside Portugal. I have been hooked on some cheesy soaps - I even watched the entire online archive of 'Os Nossos Dias'. However, when I started to watch another one 'Aqui Tao Longe', I have found that the archive of episodes flashes up for a couple of seconds, then disappears. This happens even with a vpn (set to Porto). I would happily download the app, but it seems only to be available for Android or IoS. I so do NOT want to have to watch on my phone, now I'm used to the wide screen experience on my (Windows) desktop. I would love to know if there is still a way to watch either online or with a desktop app (there seem to be different RTP apps for different types of programmes).
My language exchange partner suggested TVI instead. I had a similar problem - I couldn't see how to actually stream content - it just seemed to be blurbs about different programmes. Very frustrating!
A video on RTP/ TVI content and these technical issues of streaming or installing apps would be really helpful.
Just an idea, why not actually speak Portuguese in your videos? 😄 maybe add in English subtitles for the beginners. :)
Thanks for this really helpful video.
On Cable TV in Canada we can get City TV from Toronto. Saturday morning we get
Gente Da Noss
I would love to see a class on Until Life do Us Part
I watched Gloria 2 weeks ago. It was really good. Having lived also during communism in Romania, many of the atrocities committed by the state police and all were very similar to how it was in Portugal. It was nice to watch it with Romanian subtitles, much easier to get Portuguese, because sentence structure is more similar than English one.
Good thing I clicked on this video. That lyricstraining site will come in handy. However..
Yesss LyricsTraining is so useful for many languages!!
Yes 🙌🏽
🤘
Great tips Liz. Thanks!
I have a practical question I'd like to know if anyone has a way around. I recently (in the past month) found I couldn't stream an old novela 'Os Nossos Dias' I was watching on RTP any more . Where before every episode appeared under the main screen on the page, now if you try to scroll down, they disappear and you icons for Google Play, or Apple apps pop up. I want to watch on my Windows computer, but Google Play only offers an Android app. I really don't fancy having to watch on my phone though, I want to keep watching on a big screen with all the keyboard functionality. This is really frustrating! And even when I set a VPN to Porto, I have the same problem. I also find that even with the VPN, over half the programmes have an icon, but when you press it, it says 'sem direito a transmissão online'.
I find the same with TVI.
I'm wondering if this is because of the World Cup, or is streaming from Portuguese stations a thing of the past? Anyone know if there's a way to watch all content on my computer?
My identification of two Canadian TV programs in Portuguese seems to have gotten truncated.
The programs appear on cable from City Tv in Toronto
Saturday morning has Gente da Nossa, a magazine-style show in Portuguese.
Sunday morning has Correio da Manhã Em Destaque also a magazine type show of interviews, music and news from Canada and abroad.
When I go to Portugal, I’m going to attempt to speak Portuguese with some of the locals, but I’m not fully conversational yet, haha. That’s better than nothing I guess, haha.
I've got a question! How do we subscribe to the annual plan of Lingopie with your discount? I'm at the paying platform and it only applies the 53% discount from Easter. Does yours apply afterwards? Ty!!
Hey Liz, I like your channel! But I can't help but feel that Portuguese with English subtitles would be a better format for your videos, a bit like Portuguese with Leo. You have different content though (that I really like!), but I was just hoping maybe to hear more Portuguese on your channel. :)
Are you portuguese natural? you pronunciation is really perfect.
Que legal obrigada pela dica!
Thanks for the musical advice :)
Você escreve muito bem português brasileiro! 😍
In the states, will try netflix
First i need say you are beatiful. And i live in Angola 🇦🇴
French Rivera for the moment, looking to buy a flat in Portugal……..What about Portuguese tv in streaming? I watch few tv serials in Turkish and I started to learn Turkish (mostly by accident 😆)
yes I have a few videos on TV and Netflix, for Portuguese TV you can get the RTP app!
Question: I know Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese are different but will the local Portuguese people in Portugal understand most of Brazilian Portuguese and vice versa?
Yes, easily. The active tense is where B uses different method. I am really basic w Euro P and when I describe things and ask questions among a few Brazilians they understand readily.
Ola! Where can we find your online course?
The link to my free introduction lesson is in the description! You will get all info from there!
I watched Gloria and Ate. Que a vida nos separe in USA
What did you think??
@@TalktheStreets I loved both series. The subtitles combined with the audio helped me learn new words. I used the pause button to stop the program and write words I did not understand. I am a native Spanish speaker so I guess gives me an advantage due to the similarities of both languages. Now I have to make an effort and write more in Portuguese.
Well done. Just a tip - improve the mic. it sounds a little low (baixo)
I’m working on it :)
hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe
I was excited about conjugurmos but then it asks the conjugations for vós. Why? I don't learn it in my lesson, it's not in my grammar practice books. It's really unnecessary.
(And I think it's Brazilian Portuguese because it says "ruim" for "bad")
And "tranqüilo" Portuguese doesn't have ü does it?
"tranqüilo" - Only in Brasil they use that mark ü
Ruim - It's a perfectly normal word either in Brasil or in other Portuguese speaking countries.
the conjugations for "vós" it's basically used in the North of Portugal, we learn it in school and it's use in religious context, but in the south of Portugal it will be very difficult for you to hear it
Disclaimer. Lisbon is not the best place to learn Portuguese. Looking to maybe explore smaller towns on the outskirts of the city. My experience is that most Portuguese people here speak English and don't have much patience if your level is not fluent. They will respond to you in English once they hear your accent. Also, there are many shops owned by people from Nepal, India, and Bangladesh. These ethnic groups typically prefer to speak in English as many of them told me they find Portuguese hard to learn. Just giving my honest experience of Lisbon (Anjos Neighborhood) after 1 month. If you are just trying to visit the city and see the sights for a few weeks with no intention of learning or immersing yourself in the language then obviously this doesn't apply.
I adore your vids, Liz, but this vid felt a bit like an excuse for self promotion and advertising.
Hey Hannah! I’m sorry you feel that way, my video topics are always based on questions I am asked frequently, and this is one. I have actually only ever agreed to promote a handful of products that I think really benefit my audience and you are under no obligation to try them if you don’t want to! There are so few ways to practice Portuguese out there, I think people really appreciate knowing this stuff. I also don’t think I promoted myself at all here 🙈
I personally love all your videos!!!!
Oh, I disagree 100%! Liz has such valuable content - grabs us great discounts on apps, etc. and is worth contributing to!
This video was so helpful! As is your channel in general. I didn't/don't feel any sales pressure whatsoever.
What is the difference between " Casa de puta and puteiro" please elaborate
Please don't say European Portuguese! It's just Portuguese! You wouldn't say European English would you? You may say Brazilian Portuguese or Angola Portuguese... not European.
