    Bro facts! This is a MAJOR pain in the ass! Mine ended up getting stuck upon retraction (nozzle ring) went ahead and just ordered a reman turbo until I do my build!

      Hell yah solid turbo in my opinion! My 4th gen has handled some abuse!! And I wouldn’t trade it for the world! Love all the little struggles along the way! PS “had to get an air hammer” GPA’s favorite saying! “Just get a bigger hammer”! Lol

    I gotta admit, those OEM Cummins nozzle rings hold up great. For all those miles the rig is putting out, pretty remarkable wear resistance to all that sliding motion and FOD. Great video 👍

    I just rebuilt my 2007.5 6.7 HE351VE turbo with your kit. Great video!
    I'm having one issue. When dropping the cartridge into the hot side housing the turbo wheel is rubbing something. Spinning is not free and easy. Seems the cartridge food in too deeply.
    Any suggestions from Kai or anyone?

    • @DIYKAI

      Thanks!
      Make sure the alignment pins are lined up and the cartridge is fully seated....you can tap the housing very lightly to seat it.....it should spins generally free.
      Make sure all the carbon and junk are removed.

      Friend, thank you for the quick reply! I just found that it was slightly cocked due to just setting on the housing/cartridge clamp. Simple stuff gets us all too often!
      Thanks again!!

      Kai, this will be my last question as the turbo is back together. There is one large diameter o-ring left over in the rebuild kit. I installed the one on the silver plate that covers the internal actuator parts. Is it an unused o- ring or possibly for another similar turbo?
      I don't find another large o-ring in the pictures I took while disassembling the unit. I hate having left overs and no manual or kit instructions.

    • @DIYKAI
      @DIYKAI  Před 6 měsíci

      @wardstanford8177 the cold side (snail shell) side uses the large o ring, it goes on the cartridge side

      Thanks Kai! I'm sure that saved a big mistake.

      Again, thanks for all your input.

      Hello and thanks for watching. Unfortunately we do not rebuild turbos for people anymore. We are showing this as reference so you would be able to perform this task at home. It does require basic mechanic tools and knowledge of the turbo.
      When you say the vain is stuck are you getting any codes? Have you removed the actuator? Also check shaft play……

  • @wardstanford8177
    @wardstanford8177 Před 7 měsíci +1

    Kia, I'm stuck on the task not shown, the actual removal of the turbine shaft. I have the turbine open, the 10mm nut and corresponding turbine wheel off. The shaft spins freely. Also removed is the thrust washer, and the small c-clip under the TW. I'm still not able to get the shaft to slide out. Any gentle taping i do with a small hammer doesn't get it moving out but seems to put pressure on something as the turbine wheel no longer spins freely at that point. I stop fearing I'm doing harm. Can you provide how to get the shaft out?
    Thanks for these great videos also!

    • @DIYKAI
      @DIYKAI  Před 7 měsíci

      Sometimes carbon gets stuck around the sealing ring on the hot side turbine and it's hard to remove. Try soaking it some WD40 twist while pulling to see if it frees up

    • @wardstanford8177
      @wardstanford8177 Před 6 měsíci +1

      That must have been it, plus I put my big boy pants on and tapped the shaft gently, but smartly and the shaft began moving out. Just a bit fearful of harming something when it was resisting.
      Thanks for the reply and wonderful videos.
      Have a great Christmas and Holidays!

    Looks like he bailed on the new snap ring and used the old one(and yes it was heat fatigued and should not have been used), also there was no clearance between the half gear shaft and the bearing housing you need at least .012-.015 clearance or Damage will destroy both parts and sieze

    • @DIYKAI
      @DIYKAI  Před 6 měsíci

      Definitely used a new nozzle, ring, and snap ring about 12k miles now and still producing 38psi +

      @DIYKAI  Před 6 měsíci

      The new one was the same size when compressed and yes we did space the nozzle shaft away from the housing this turbo went east to west coast freezing to 130⁰F ZERO issues and still running great right now
