  • Color gel photography is a powerful way to direct the eye and create emotion. But how do you choose the right color combinations?
    In this video, I share one of my favorite color combinations: Blue/Violet and Yellow/Orange. This color combo is powerful because it creates an epic pop and contrast--the complementary colors and warm/cold mix allow the image to jump off the page. Furthermore, this color combination feels very cinematic and 'heroic' because it is a common color scheme for superhero movie posters!
    For this setup I used 3 Lights (Profoto D2s):
    Light 1: Profoto Beauty Dish + Grid + Blue Gel
    Light 2&3: Profoto 1x4ft Strip Softboxes + Grid + Yellow/Straw Gel
    We used a single piece of fabric to sculpt an elegant, eye-catchlight shape around my subject. Notice in the results how the subject's skin takes on a liquid/metallic look and the warm light carves out the edges of her profile for a truly bold result.

  • @dylahnrossi9429
    @dylahnrossi9429 Před 2 lety

    Also is the beauty dish using that strobe not always on like the strip boxes? Also where is the stand to hold the beauty dish in the link description? Is it just a remote flash that fits in the beauty dish? Then do the strip boxes just run a constant light with a yellow gel filter?

    • @Lucy-dk5cz
      @Lucy-dk5cz Před 2 lety

      There is no constant light used in the images created. What you are seeing is the modeling light

    How to get this Colour Wheel? Any Downloable File?

    • @truckingpix
      @truckingpix Před 3 lety +1

      I know that if you Google 'color wheel' you can see many varieties right on your screen, and also buy one inexpensive from Amazon and such.... I bought one at a local art store.

    Could continuous lighting with gels still be effective?

    • @Lucy-dk5cz
      @Lucy-dk5cz Před 2 lety

      Yes but you are going to have to crank that iso open up your aperture. Some people combine strobe and continuous to get some blurred motion

    What use white balance in camera?

    • @longliveclassicmusic
      @longliveclassicmusic Před 3 lety +1

      She's not even shooting into-camera. She's shooting tethered. The white balance is creatively adjusted on the computer while she's shooting. The default is always Flash white balance unless she wants to shift to to blue and changes to Tungsten.

    • @lindsayadlerphoto
      @lindsayadlerphoto Před 3 lety

      @@longliveclassicmusic Correcto! But the white balance was flash, and then mildly tweaked.

  • @richschmitt100
    @richschmitt100 Před 3 lety +2

    Why don’t you share with us your camera settings and your flash power settings?

    • @rickjbradbury
      @rickjbradbury Před 3 lety +1

      Because its largely not important. She would have to provide you distance, light model and watt seconds, gell type, modifier info. Lens and camera combo and settings.
      It just does not translate to someone else with different gear.

    • @longliveclassicmusic
      @longliveclassicmusic Před 3 lety +2

      In the studio she always shoots at ISO 200, 1/200th of a second, and f/8 or f/11. A hundred percent of the time. That's why it's completely irrelevant. Because every image in her portfolio is wildly different but using the same camera settings. Why not listen to what she's teaching and knows from experience is actually important instead of criticizing her based on what you think she should be teaching?

    • @lindsayadlerphoto
      @lindsayadlerphoto Před 3 lety

      Exactly what Richard says! I have a video about this coming out pretty soon

    • @Lucy-dk5cz
      @Lucy-dk5cz Před 2 lety

      Just get any strip box. No point her listing a Profoto stripbox if you are using another brand with incompatible mount
