It's a ski lift with a middle station, but the middle station can also be used as the top station (as seen in this video) and then he switches sit so it goes to the actual top station!

But if the disembark would be a little bit sooner; wouldn't there be room for people to hop on the middle station aswell?

The lift is not built for boarding at the intermediate station. There is no natural income for slopes to it, so it is not necessary.
