- In this video, I take a look at a few products from Vinyl Storage Solutions, located in Canada. I had been on a search for a better outer sleeve for my records, and after hearing about the quality of these sleeves decided to give them a try. You can tell from the moment you slip one on that these were created by a vinyl enthusiast for vinyl enthusiasts. Every detail is well thought out, from the actual archival nature of the material used to the super precise measurements and multitude of options.I definitely recommend checking out their offerings. The ones for the Tone Poet and Acoustic Sounds Series gatefolds are perfect and just what i was looking for. I am in no way affiliated with the company and purchased everything in the video. Here's a link to their website:

Thanks for the review, Well done and it's appreciated greatly. Mike
You're welcome Mike. My pleasure to cover such high quality products.
Have been using VSS for well over a year or so now dual pockets and the gatefold solution ones just brilliant gear and well worth the postage to Australia.
Hi Darren, that's really saying something considering the postage etc to Australia. I'm going to try the dual pocket and the adhesive ones soon. Did you get dual pockets with tape or flaps
@@ThePressingMatters 4 mil Dual Pocket LP Vinyl Record Outer Sleeves (RESEALABLE) -
All 3000 of my records have Vinyl Solution Sleeves. Best sleeves out there and Mike is a great guy !! Definitely worth the lil extra money
That's great! The collection must look good! may I ask which ones you use?
Yo Scott.
Been collecting for 45 years, since 1977, I have about 6500 LPs. Listen I travelled the same journey as you about 2 years ago. Mike from VSS sold me single pockets, at the time I didn’t quite feel like the dual pocket made sense. I was wrong. Somehow along the way I tried it in practice on a single LP and 2 for a gatefold so it allows you to open the jacket, and there’s no going back now. You can use the resealable side on the spine side so that you don’t have that seam right on the spine wording, which I never liked, and then you slide the LP in the 2nd pocket on the same side you would normally slide it into the jacket. Dude trust me, before you sleeve so many albums with the single pocket flapped, and then down the road try the dual and feel like you have to redo all the singles, have Mike send you some dual pockets and try it!! Also the 3 mil inners are even better than the 2 mil for storage and not crumpling in the corners.
John.
John, I won't go much further until I try them. Do most people put the record on the back when doing two as a gatefold? Or is it even possible or desirable to put in the center right or left? What are you using for one pocket sleeves? The same ones? So one size fits all with these if you use two on the gatefold.
Also are the ones you use have tape to join them? I'm trying to picture this. I'll have to watch their video again. Did you find this method took up a lot more shelf space?
Hey Scott. What part of the country are you?
Those are actually really good questions that require a little time. I had the same ones and I had to learn the long way around. What’s your preferred method of contact? Insta, FB ?
@@johndeuble64 probably Facebook Messenger. Love to hear from you.
They make a 3mil inner sleeve now too. I’ve been happy with everything I’ve purchased from them. I put two dual pockets together on double albums. It works great.
I plan on purchasing both of the products you mention. It seems everyone is passionate about Mike's products and those particular models certainly are far and away the best I've seen for the issues they address. So glad you're enjoying them and supporting this innovative company.
I have seen people take two of the resealable outer flap, double pocket sleeves, cut off one flap, put the cut-off edge on inside of the gatefold, then use the sealed edge to connect the two covers. Then you can keep your gatefolds covered. VSS also sells gatefolds.
Hi Matt,
Yes, this is what I do. I made two follow up videos demonstrating this technique.

And
czcams.com/video/nGTQNbH9fCU/video.htmlsi=_Q39nNcdVCt9lO9P
The last one shows the cutting of the sleeve at the end.
That is my preference with gatefolds though the one piece is ok too.
Scott, been using VSS sleeves for some time now. They really are great, best I’ve used. Was a little costly to post to the U.K. but thankfully there is a retailer here called MINT Sleeves who now supply them also. I went for the dual pocket option which I do prefer. Very convenient to get the record out to play and the sleeve remains mint. I do like the resealable ones but you need to be careful with them, but once sealed, the jackets are completely safe. I believe that VSS now supply a sleeve designed for gatefolds which is open at both ends. I personally use two of the single, dual pocket ones joined together. There’s some good videos about this online, particularly with Michael over at 45 RPM Audiophile. They also supply a 3 mil inner for those extra special records, if you choose to go that route. Glad you like them. Great video.
Thanks, and thanks for your comment. Everyone who has chimes in here has mentioned those two particular products, so I think I'm going to try the dual pocket concept and place an order with Mike for those and the heavier inner sleeves. Really worth every penny, and one of the best designed accessories I've seen in a long time. The knowledge and attention to detail is impressive!
I love VSS and have been using them exclusively for about two years. My entire collection in in the 4mil dual pocket with the tape seal. I love them. I can just pull the vinyl out of the second dual pocket and keep my jackets fully sealed (and don’t have the break the tape seal). As an FYI, they even have a thicker inner sleeve vs. the sample 2mil you showed (their 3mil inner sleeves are clearly better than the MOFI’s IMO). I now use these inner sleeves over the mofi sleeves. They have a new outer sleeve product for gatefolds that fully protect the jackets and you can still open them in the sleeve, it’s very cool.
So you are not putting two together for gatefolds? I didn't think they had an oversized dual pocket for the thick gatefolds to slip into rather than wrapping the whole gatefold.
@@ThePressingMatters No there’s actually a full gatefold outter, I use the dual pocket system with foldable flap, couldn’t be happier!
@@ThePressingMatters The new gatefold product I mentioned is not a dual pocket sleeve. I haven’t used it yet myself but it holds a gatefold in a single sleeve product with tuckable flaps on each end so you can access the vinyl. They are sold in packs of 10 and there is a video on the website.
@@668_neighbor_of_the_beast6 thanks for the info. I saw the video - looks nice too.
I’ve been using VSS for a couple of years now. Really like the inner sleeve and the dual pocket single flap. Great customer service.
Do you use two for gatefolds? I guess you have to because there is no oversized dual pocket to my knowledge.
@@ThePressingMatters
I use the two mil resealable single pocket (2/gatefold) and then put in a 4 mill outer sleeve; then put the record between cover and outer sleeve.
These sleeves are amazing and Mike the owner of VSS is a true gent.
If you want to buy these from europe theres a distributor in England called mint sleeves FYI for anyone interested.
Thank you for pointing out the European distributor for our viewers there. I've had only great experiences with VSS.
I have been using dual pocket tuck-able outer sleeves for almost 2 years now. Prior to that I was using the MoFi sleeves and still do. I will use them for certain albums I get. At first I never stored my record on the outside of the jacket. Now the jack remains protected and I can get to the record without having to touch the jacket. And the best part is that the record is not only protected by the inner sleeve but also by the second part.
I get what you like about them but it just seems like the record is more vulnerable, you don't see the back of the jacket unless the record is removed, the package takes up more space. I think I mostly have a reservation about the look of the sleeved package.
Thanks Scott, I've been looking for something like these. And scrolling the comments it seems there is a UK distributor so that's a bonus.
Yes, apparently Mint Sleeves is distributing them in Europe. I urge you to give them a try. There's much more info on the website that you should check out, Lots of innovative options.
Got similar ones with the adhesive strip. I do like having the flap on the side of the opening so the LP does not have to come out. The drawback I found out is when the LP is taken out of the shelf, the flap can be creased as it folds back catching on the LP next to it. I am going to change them round so they are facing forward and can flip through them like in a record shop.
Browser bin style (to flip through) is a dream I wouldn't be able to implement unless I really downsized heavily.
Yes, VSS is the solution. I use the dubble pocket with tuckable flap for the single albums, and the dubble pocket sealable to make one for a gatefold or 3folds, even those like Radiohead can be protected with it. Shipped it from Canada to Europe, but there is a European distributor now. So highly recommended 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for your comments, and suggestions. The care and attention to detail and the true needs of vinyl collectors is staggering. Truly a labor of love on Mikes part and I'm so glad to shed a little more light on a company like this.
Thanks for the Video. I'm a huge fan of Vinyl Storage Solution, love the dual pocket with tape.
Thank you! I'm going to do a big overview of their entire line in the next month. I too have embraced the dual pocket with tape sleeve.
I'm with you on keeping the vinyl outside the sleeve; I prefer to keep the record inside. Ring wear was prevalent in the past because no one kept there albums in outer sleeves. I understand that in some cases the jacket gets stretched but I want the added protection of the jacket. I've been using the "Blake Sleeve" for several years. Helpful video, Thanks!
Thanks for watching! Sleeving in general has really helped ringwear to not occur. Since doing this video, I've decided to use the dual pocket sleeves. I resisted it because it seemed so odd to me, but after trying out a pack, I'm convinced. I'll be doing a new video soon with a complete overview and demo of all the 12" LP products that Mike has developed. In it I'll discuss how I came around to this decision.
I’ve been using the dual pocket as well and love them. The new covers for double albums work great as well. Definitely sold on VSS.
It is apparent that everyone who tries Mike's products is converted to using them exclusively. I can't wait to try the dual pocket after reading so much about them. Thanks for your comments and for supporting this innovative company.
I’m a huge proponent of Japanese outer sleeves aka the ones with the resealable flaps. Never had any issues with damaging my jackets as the sticky part is not on the flap but on the sleeve itself. I found some that were on the larger end as well, perfect for gatefolds. I also separate the vinyl from the jacket and store both in the same outer sleeve. Interested to check out the gatefold sleeves from VSS however! Possible game changer.
Hi Rod, thank you for your comment. I remember when I first discovers the resealable Japanese sleeves. What a difference compared to the old standby polyethylene sleeves that were so cloudy. The made that artwork pop and were crystal clear. Since then I switched to a 4 mil clear sleeve that has no flap, but I do miss sealing up the record somehow. That's why I decided to try the tuckable flap type. But so many have raved about these dual pocket resealable tape sleeves, I have some samples on the way. I'll do a more full scale demo review when i see the whole covering the gatefold method.
Been using VSS outer and inner sleeves for a couple of years. I love the double pocket sealable outer sleeves for all of my gatefold albums as well as the 3 mil inners. Mike is currently having a sale on 12” inner and outer sleeves.
Hi Scott, I'm planning to give Mike a call and place an order for the dual pocket with tape flap and 3mm inner sleeves. The overwhelming response has been from fans of this model and the 3 mil inner. Seems I missed his most popular product. Once I've gone "dual pocket", I'll be doing a more complete and clear update on the whole line. I've got some great tips on using them from another viewer which will be very interesting. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hi Scott, awesome
I am in the market for sleeves. Thank you!
Thank you for the link!
You are awesome
I may do an update on this because so many fans of this company have pointed out the dual pocket resealable to be the best. I have some on the way and I will let you know!
@@ThePressingMatters I will be on the lookout. Thank you
Have a wonderful one
VSS is top tier! Only found a few albums that didn’t fit well in the outer/2nd pocket sleeves. Slowly switching most of collection over. Cheers! 🍻
Great! I'm thinking of doing the same. Did you notice any major loss in shelf space?
@@ThePressingMatters early returns, no.
Hello, I’m asking for 12,75” double pocket outer sleeves does it fit 1 gatefold album to 1 pocket side and 2 LP in to other pocket while we using with 2 inner sleeves?
Hi
I think you are asking if you can put a gatefold into one dual pocket sleeve, even if there are two records? Yes if you use a 12.75, it should fiit the jacket in one pocket. It will look as if it's a single jacket and the gatefold will not be able to be opened. You could store two discs in their inner sleeves in the back pocket.
Love these sleeves and nice video. I do think the video would be more informative if you made it after you spent some time with the product as opposed to finding out all the info live in front of the camera. Only a thought. Thank you.
For sure, and I hope to to justice to them in a later video. I realize it wasn't the best presentation. I've had more time with them and tried some of their other models so I hope to address it in a better made video at some point. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I'm interested in this company, I have a bunch of Trifold records would they fit in these sleeves?
The trifold should fit easily into the 13 inch single pocket sleeve. I used it for the half speed of The Who's Tommy, and that's pretty thick trifold.
@ThePressingMatters yeah that's one if the ones in question I also have the who with orchestra at wembley. Ok so 13 inches it is, is there a ton of room or is it semi snug?
@jessicaf2655 I'll check when I get home but it wasn't tight
Sorry no, I've had too many record jackets ruined over the last 50 years by smooth clear covers, I've had similar covers "weld" themselves to the jackets or the lack of UV protection ultimately results in colour fade. I now only use heavy UV opaque archival jacket sleeves. I always put the record out of the jacket, yes it prevents ring wear but more importantly it stops your fingernails damaging the jacket opening (look at an old second hand record) when trying to remove the record from the sleeve
I could see that happening with the old foggy polyethylene sleeves but I highly doubt that this material would do that under any proper storage conditions. Personally I haven't had that happen, and I did have some things in storage at one time in a florida storage facility which is not ideal as far as heat and humidity and everything survived perfectly. You might contact Mike if you need more info on the UV and archival properties of this material.
@@ThePressingMatters Sorry but I'm talking decades in covers not years, if they don't say archival grade be careful, the situation is worse with glossy "tip-on" sleeves. My collection has always been a warm dry room and some covers still got destroyed. This happens when your collection goes over a certain size and you may not play a record for 10 to 15 years, hence the sleeve must be UV opaque, acid free, wayyyy to large and never with any adhesive on the flap or cover, if they are not sold as archival grade then they're probably not. Oh and when stored in crates or cubes ensure that you can fit a hand in each side simultaneously this way no warp and no ring wear. What many people forget is the floor strong enough? Suspended wooden floors will ultimately have an issue. My collection is now on an insulated solid concrete floor, remember even 8 full ikea cubes weighs a lot!
@@ergloo6660 Yes weight is definitely something to consider!
I was a customer of VSS .. great product .. but out of the blue the owner decided to ban my country (Costa Rica ).. really disappointing . Terrible customer service policies and business structure. The reason was that people was reselling his product (highly doubt that happens in CR).. which in the end means the are buying the product to begin with ….in the end it makes me ask a friend on the US to buy it for me and ship it… which is a waste of time…love the product but the business sucks .in
Hi Jorge, that's too bad and doesn't seem to make much sense. I don't see why that would require shutting off a country completely.
Hi guys. While I'm sure you can appreciate that I have spent $10,000 of dollars on creating the IP (patents and branding) and to only have it misappropriated and resold by others is disheartening at best, but to have people that have bought that product from others that are asking for support is costly and time consuming for a 1 person operation. You still have the option to use a US or Canadian based forwarder or a friend to purchase products. So while it might not make sense to you or you might think it "sucks", it's what I have to do to protect my livelihood. Regards Mike
@@vinylstoragesolutions177 Hi Mike, Thank you for taking the time to explain your perspective and I can completely understand your position. I apologize if my reply to Jorge's original comment was insensitive. When I first saw the comment I was surprised by the tone of his remarks, as I have only heard wonderful things about you and your products. I'm very excited bu your designs and do plan to use them exclusively now that I've tried a few.
