    Guillows kits are some of the most patience consuming, brittle cheap wood, need to hand cut every piece...Really for the strong relentless builder....I know as I was a kid who could only afford these mothers...And no exact knife for a long time, that was a luxury. We used to break a razor blade and crimp some copper over one side, that was the tool. And duck or testers glue was a treasure....My hat is off to this builder..

      Hi Bill Gargan, you're telling absolutely the truth and you're reminding me of my first Guillow's model. CA glue and an exacto knife with a new blade for every kit are very important, if you want to enjoy building your Guillow's model. I wish you all the very best!

    Excellent and accurate build! I bashed the same kit (25 years ago) into an FW 190 D, but it did not turn out as nice as this. Thank you for the inspiration. I just ordered a Guillows F6F.

    Great video! I built the 25" version of this model in the 70s, and just picked up this version over the weekend. Big improvement from 40 years ago - laser cut parts! Wow, what a difference. I can't remember the last balsa and tissue kit that I built, but I decided on this one because I've always loved the lines of the FW-190. The one type of Guillows kit I never got was the really big line they have with the Dauntless and Corsair. If this is as fun as it was when I was a kid, I think I'm going to treat myself. :-)

      Hi Fred, thank you very much for your kind words! Indeed, the LC kits are so much easier to build, than the classic ones and I do have some more kits to build. Personally I like the design of the Fw 190 as much, as I like the Spitfire Mk V. Both are absolutely beautiful airplanes. You might also enjoy using superglue instead of the white glue, which you've probably used 40 years ago, because it's so much faster and makes building such a model so much easier. But the best part of all is to bring your own ideas into your model. I wish you a lot of joy with building your model! Have a wonderful time!

      If you think the older kits are fun (I totally agree and have built a number of them) check out the newer 400+ series of laser cut kits. They're more money but are larger, more accurate, and come out AMAZING! Guillows has come a long way over the years. Just need them to step up and make a new laser cut F4U in the slightly larger (not giant) scale.

      Hi PL51Mustang, you have to cover your plan with waxed paper, because otherwise you'll have to cut later your model pieces with a razor blade from the plan, which will damage your plan for sure. If you can't buy some waxed paper, you can melt a candle and brush the wax on an ordinary sheet of copy paper. After you've done that, you can put your waxed paper in the middle of an old newspaper and iron it. The wax will melt again and cover your sheet of copy paper more evenly. I wish you a lot of joy and good luck with the built of your model!

    • @andreasbuttner-land1890
      @andreasbuttner-land1890  Před 6 lety

      Hi Jack, the choice of paint depends on the question, if you want to build a model for display, or if you want it to fly nicely. I've used Revell enamel paint and this made my models very heavy. Some of them do even fly, but poorly. On the other hand, in my eyes they do look surprisingly nice.
      Maybe acrylic paint is a better choice, because you can dilute the paint with water, but unfortunately I have no experience with acrylic paint yet. I think, that you shouldn't worry too much about the paint. Just try something out, enjoy building your model and be proud of what you have achieved. I wish you all the best and a lot of joy with your model!

      If you're building a warbird, then Tamiya, Humbrol or Revell might be good choices. The Revell enamel paint does match in my eyes the original colours perfectly. You'll find at the end of my slide shows the numbers of the Revell enamel colours, which I have used.

      Hi Neale Unruh, I have also videos on my channel, which I called "Guillow's test flight", where you can see, how poorly my planes fly. Indeed, due to the paint, my models are too heavy to fly well. The MESSERSCHMITT BF 109 white 14 (Kit No: 401 LC) flies best, because of it's size, but in my video it flies only down hill. But I see it as a compromise. I'm happy with how my models look and I accept the way they fly.

    • @andreasbuttner-land1890
      @andreasbuttner-land1890  Před 3 lety

      Hi Neale Unruh, I think that the weight of the paint will count less, if you'd build one of the bigger models, like the Kit No: 401 LC. The rubber band of the bigger models is also much better. If you'd use acrylic paint, then you could use water as thinner and save also weight this way. But I'm pretty sure, that if you're happy with the paint job, then you'll be also be happy, if your model flies maybe not excellent, but still flies pretty ok.
