    Hi Tom, do you remember where the rubber band connected within this kit?

    • @TomGrigat
      @TomGrigat  Před 7 lety +1

      There's a triangle at the end of both fuselage sides with a little gap to the next little strut. When both sides are mounted you have to put in a little rod. This is one fixing point for the rubber band, the propeller is the second one...

    Hi Tom!! I just purchased this EXACT balsa kit!!! I sincerely hope to assemble mine to the level of perfection that your's is! Also, what kind of adhesive / glue did you use to assemble your kit here? And, the 2 parts that had to be sanded down, how does one determine the level of sanding before it gets down to be "too small"?

    • @TomGrigat
      @TomGrigat  Před 7 lety +2

      congratulation to your choice ;-) I used "UHU hart" for it. And for the canvas/paper I took white glue thinned with water - ordinary wood glue. In case of sanding: it's a kind of testing and feeling.

    • @punkrockpub
      @punkrockpub Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Tom!! Is the "string" that you used on the Cylinders of the Eindecker 3's engine, come included with the kit? Or, was is purchased separately? And if so, what size of string did you use? My kits not here yet...

    • @TomGrigat
      @TomGrigat  Před 7 lety +1

      punkrockpub I used ordinary electrical cable for it. In my memory it's something about 1 mm diameter. You may decide on your own which size suits you best. For the simulated exhaust tubes I used copper wire of even bigger electrical cables. It was my own decision to simulate the engine that way. The kit itselfs stops by using the wood bars for the cylinders. It's up to you. ;-)

    • @richarddarlington1139
      @richarddarlington1139 Před 7 lety +2

      Elmer's white glue works well on all wood to wood joints. Just be sure to let it dry thoroughly before unpinning. The glue shrinks as it dries and can cause warps. Thinned with a little water, you can also use Elmer's to attach the tissue covering....For sanding parts to shape, sand a little, check the fit. Repeat until you are satisfied. Patience is required to get good results.

      My Great x2 Uncle Wilfred Ellis Durant flew in the RFC from April 1918 to July 2nd 1918. He most likely would have have flown in a S.E.5a Scout, a beautiful aircraft. He was shot down near St. Omer on July 2nd , 1918. My Grandparents found his medals and uniform put away in a barn when they lived in Kemptville, Ontario and donated them to the war museum. The medals and uniform are in the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa to this day. Here is a link. I wonder if you would ever consider building this aircraft. www.warmuseum.ca/collections/artifact/1092134/?media_irn=5471330

      A very interesting story. I built the S.E.5a - in fighter version already. I don't know if you've seen it yet... The scout version could be an idea though. Thank you for your idea.

    Great video! I'm building the same kit and noticed the wing inserted perfectly until I glued former 3 in place. Now the instrument panel blocks the wing from sliding in. The instructions simply tell you to cement the wing in place. In the video, it looks like you cut the wing in half to install it. Is that really what you needed to do?

    • @TomGrigat
      @TomGrigat  Před 4 lety

      Thanks - when I remember correctly, the plan instructs you to cover the two halves and fix them at the fuselage with an additional wooden stick. Please take another look at the instructions. I'm pretty sure the wing should be mounted in halves with space for the cockpit.

    Do you Duco cement to connect the wood pieces? I remember using that in the 60's and 70's making Guillows balsa kits.

      I used UHU hart - special glue for wood.

    Hi Tom, about the rigging; what do you use between the wind and the top of the cabin? It seems metalic pieces.... best regards

    • @TomGrigat
      @TomGrigat  Před 3 lety +1

      I used a very glossy black thread. Some kind of nylon or fishing line. The metallic effect came out of the reflection.

    Hi Tom!! At point 1:03 in this film. You were placing copper/brass tubing on the airplanes motor. May I ask how you made these tubings? Did you use the guide for the Black Motor Tubes as a guide? Please let me know. My Eindecker is coming along and I wish to add the additional copper tubings. I humbly thank you in advance and hope to hear from you soon.

    • @TomGrigat
      @TomGrigat  Před 7 lety +1

      I used copper wire of electrical cable for it. I think it was something about 1-2 mm diameter. The cylinders gave me the guide for bending and positioning the exhaust simulation

    • @TomGrigat
      @TomGrigat  Před 7 lety +1

      As you might have seen on the pictures, there's a bit of a reflection. I am using some sort of plastic wrap covering the original plan. As I remember it was an advice standing in the descriptions of the plan ;-) Never glue directly on the plan though...
