    You don't need to crank the engine over with the crank bolt. Raise the rear a couple inches, put the car in 6th gear and turn the rear wheels to turn the engine over. I did this on my C5 Z06 when I swapped valvesprings. Also, you can bring the piston up to the top to hold the valves up, no need for compressed air or rope. Have a buddy help turn the rear wheels, you can confirm the piston is at the top with a dowel or a pencil in the spark plug hole. Easy peasey.

      Hey Alex, I just attempted your method, I have the car in the air on jack stands on all four corners. When attempting to spin one tire on my own I just spin the other tire the opposite way, then I put a chuck to stop the other tire from turning, still can't get it to move in 1st. Then both my friend and I tried to turn each tire at the same time, I wouldn't say we are whimps but still nothing. Maybe for the LS1 it is easier but we couldn't get it to spin. Also in the past I have tried to bump start the C6 Z on a 10 mph roll and it just slid the 12" tires.... So maybe not the best thing to try on the Z. Now I am worried I won't be able to turn over with the torque wrench.. The engine is not locked up at all btw..

    My 2005 GTO had the same thing happen to the exhaust valve on the 5th cylinder. It happened only a mile from home but that mile was the longest ever. The car was shaking so bad I thought the engine was going to break a motor mount. Got it replaced and like you I got lucky because only one of the keepers were in keeping the valve from dropping in the cylinder.

    You probably already figured it out by now, but if you have the belt on the front of the engine, you can put a socket on the alternator pulley and turn the motor.

    I have a 2000 ls1 trans am. And I believe I'm going through the same issue. I still have yet to pull the valve covers but all of my diagnostics are telling me that one of the springs could be broken on cyl 7. My car started running rough during an autox event, fortunately not while I was on course. I did 3 out of 5 runs that morning, I go to turn on my car between run 3 and 4 and I was greeted with a rough running engine and a flashing light on the dash. I guess starting the car was enough to cause a problem. So far I have a p0300, I've changed the crank sensor and that didn't fix it. Im dreading thinking about changing valve springs. But I did enough runs that day to take back first position in the season ender and win my class!

    Great video!
    I just picked up a 07 Z, low miles. Yesterday I thought I heard a misfire. Also yesterday, not every time but 2 different times, the car did the dieseling thing for 5-10 seconds after turning off ignition. I’ve read with the c6 Z this can occur for a number of reasons. Have you had any issues with dieseling?

    • @z06baron6
      @z06baron6  Před 2 lety +1

      I have had this issue with my car many times. It is 100% an electrical issue. I found mine was caused by loose connections to the battery and then I found there was a slightly loose connection somewhere in the fuse box, I had to pull the box, hammer out the rivet bolts holding the assembly, then I inspected every prong and wire running inside it, I didn't see any breaks, then I carefully pinched further closed (just a little bit!) every fuse and relay connection fork. In my intro video one of the pictures shows the wires running along the board. Put everything back together and haven't had the issue once. A bad alternator or ground could also maybe cause this issue. When I got the car I really had to go every several grounds, fuse box, battery connections and make sure everything was sound. Most of which wasn't. Every ground on the C6 corvette is painted, then grounded. Terrible. You need a metal to metal contact on the whole surface of the ground. Both the C5 and the C6 have these issues.

      @@z06baron6 Thanks for the reply bro. Very informative! Im going to go through that check list and see what I find. My OBD picked up a lean code bank 1. Tomorrow I’m picking up new plug, wires, and coil packs. Hopefully that will resolve the issue. Then alternator if necessary. I’ve read that the alternators GM used weren’t efficient enough for the LS7. Still have a lot to learn. My 97 SS camaro is definitely not as complex…lol Anyways loving the vette community. Good people👍

    The z06 is so overrated not in terms of power but in terms of being a good car. Its a ticking time bomb, people say its a affordable super car, how. $40k to 50k for a used one and 20k when it gernades, if you want a realiable c6 corvette get the ls3 and mod it

      The LS7 with a better set of heads is an amazing platform for NA builds. Stock block the LS7 can take 650WHP no problem. I wouldn't say the LS7 is overrated in any way shape or form. It's when people start boosting a stock LS7 block is when things start to go bad.

      @@biggiesmalls7939 Can confirm.
      Was at Bloomington Gold in 2018 with my 08 Z.
      I attended a class with the instructor being one of Chevrolet's top Corvette mechanics, he was involved with the Ls7 program.
      I got there early and before the class began, I told him I had just got my '08 Z06 (22k miles on the clock at the time) but had never heard about the exploding Ls7 prior to purchase, and was stressing about it.
      He told me to leave it stock, not to modify it, and the chances of it blowing was no different odds than owning any other performance car.
      He added that head shops were sure profiting from the Z06 owners' fears.
