Hardcore mechanics around here. Screwdriver up the nose and not one comment. Everywhere I have worked there is always that one guy that gets hurt in weird ways way too often. Thanks for the videos man..
Nice job. The camera is great. You could see the cross hatch marks on the cylinder walls.
Buddy's 13 6.2 started running like shit and knocking this morning with whierd brake shit accompanying. Found this video and pulled valve covers broke spring cyl 8! Thank you!
I had thought that poston had some sign abnormal combustion by looking at what appeared to be some cracks in the crown, guessing that was not the case. Glad a spring fixed it and the video!
Love it...I have a 2014 F250...same issue...thanks again great Video
Great work. And fantastic video
My 5.4 3v was putting out cyl p0300 p0305 p0306 shaking like crazy . Also lean codes on bank one +flashing check engine light . Dealer wanted to put new motor in it. 2 local mechanics wanted to do phasers and intake and plugs.
After taking it apart and inspecting it turned out to be cylinder #6 exhaust valve spring broke. $3.00 part. About 2 hrs work and it runs great now.
This video helped me diagnose mine, thanks chief.
No problem. Thanks for watching!
I recently purchased a 18 f250 with 232k all highway. Caterpillar dealer owned as their parts truck. It runs great! I just did the tranny service to it, first time it’s ever been done. It had hardly any metal flakes on the magnets.
Great video! Thank you!
Great Video Very informative!
thanks for this video just lost compression on #4 video helped diagnose my broke spring on 6.2
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching!
ADVANCED LEVEL AUTO got the spring in today runs perfect!
Excellent video!!!
great job Sir.
thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
not much in youtube land on the 6.2 good info thanks for video
Thanks for watching!
An old mechanic once showed me how to find the source of mechanical noise by using a shortened wooden broomstick placed on your ear and then various parts of an engine or gear box.
Of course, you can buy a $150 stethoscope from SnapOn...but the broom stick works well.
A long screwdriver also works
Great job.
That 6.2 gas must be a pretty strong motor. At 215000 miles you could still see the cross hatch on the bore. Good video
A year later and this truck is still hauling loads back and forth from Houston Texas to Oklahoma City multiple times a week.
@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO How many miles now? Any issues?! Just curious thanks…
Had, same thing at 136k, mine wasn't making any noises had misfired that were all over the place, Did compression test found cylinder 7 dead, pulled valve cover to find broken spring.
Good information
Thanks for the video - she sure sounds a lot better after the repair! lol
excellent video....job has a 2015 thats doing exact same thing...wish i would have saw ur video b4 changing 8 wires and 16 plugs...lol....
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching!
What did you torque the rocker bolts to? My cam slid forward about a 16th of an inch and it has a loud clap just like the truck in video. Compression is good, spark is good, multiple misfire, and sounds like a diesel. What are the cam and rocker torque specs? Its been a month and ford wont get back to me and can only find head bolt torque specs online.
You skipped the valve cover removal and the spring reasonably. When making a mechanical video don’t skip any steps no matter how small. You can fast forward through routine parts like bolt removal but don’t skip parts.
great job, this happened to me, but i have to take off both valve cover to find and number 1 and 5 cylinder spring broken, greeting
Relative compression test WITHOUT an amp probe:
Scope the VOLTAGE drop on the battery cable, "+" at the battery, (-) at the started end. Clear flood and crank...
A voltage drop test can be performed ANYWHERE that current is present.
True. I guess I was just used to doing it that way. Thanks for watching!
What snap on kit do you have for compression testing?
Any concerns with the damage to the piston?
I gotta 06 f350 6.0 blowing white smoke and shaking bad shop told me cylinder 2 misfire in thinking this is the problem what is the cost to have a broken valve spring replaced thank you
Are those 6.2 liters good? I’m looking at one with 90,000 miles on it. Is there anything I should look out for?
Dude what city are you in? My truck is also having a very similar issue. Same year but only 130kmiles tho
how did you change out the springs wish you would have included that in the video. overall great vid thanks for the help.
matias Guiguez I used compressed air into the cylinder to hold up the valve while I replaced the spring using the tool I showed.
I just had a valve spring replaced on my 6.2l 2015 F250, 137,000 Miles. Do I need to be worried about future issues? Should I trade it in to be safe?
From my experience, these motors seem to be very durable. I think with regular maintenance the truck could last for many years. Thanks for watching!
Did you end up pulling the timing chains or did you wedge the gear? how did you line it back up for timing purposes?
I did not remove the cylinder head to replace the spring. I simply used compressed air in the cylinder to hold the valve closed while I changed the spring using the tool I show at the end of the video. Thanks for watching!
ADVANCED LEVEL AUTO how much air pressure is needed to keep the valve sealed up for the change?
dude that battery connection
I have a 2011 f250 with 6.2L do you know where the variable valve timing solenoid.?
I believe they are on or near the cam gears. Thanks for watching!
How many miles did this 2014 f250 have when this happen
Hey just a quick question how do I go about 100,000 miles I think it’s time to get rid of that truck it’s a 2015
I have a 6.2 and it's blowing smoke so thick it chokes out the whole neighborhood. I know it has a vavle issue but I wouldn't think it would be smoking that bad.
PRO HEN Hopefully it didn’t crack the piston.
So did the valve contact the cylinder on that edge ? Or is that just the design of the cylinder? I would think it didn't or the valve would be damaged. What are your thoughts? This happened to my 2015 with the 6.2 but I wasn't this lucky and the valve dropped far enough in and contacted cylinder #7 piston. Had to get a remand engine put in
What happened?
When you do a compression test on a vehicle that has 2 spark plugs per cylinder do you leave one spark plug-in and use the other one to hookup the compression tester too
yes remove both spark plugs from each cylinder from the 6.2
My 6.2 did this today after a service at my Ford dealer. 75k miles
Put 16 new ones in it or sooner or later your luck will run out and one will break and drop down the hole
@@stevehpperf2402 had them replaced, left the shop and the truck started tapping. Brought it back and they said broken exhaust manifold. Took it to another dealer and they found a crossthreaded spark plug!
11,000 miles. Start up Thumping Exhaust occasionally Pop's Never had this problem F350 SUPER DUTY 4X4 "17" love IT it should idle Better . Dealer say's IT CHECKS OUT OK !! all You have to do is "Listen" My Shelby 17 GT350 Doesn't ! 3.5 Ecoboost next ?????
I have a 2017 started this at 24000 miles
Really great thank you
The 6.2 is a amazing engine and will take a lot of abuse the truck probably has 20000hours in it to because they are ideling all the time
What state are you located in?
At what mileage do these valve springs typically break at?
Any. Seen them break under 10000 miles all the way to 250000
Is this a very common problem with the 6.2 or is this just one of those random fails??
I’ve done a few of them, so maybe it’s a known issue.
Is this a common problem with the 6.2l or just a fluke
I've actually replaced quite a few broken valve springs on both the 6.2 and 5.4 engines. Thanks for watching!
Seems to be the one Achilles heel with the 6.2. I wonder if an aftermarket, like comp cams, would be a better choice on these...
wouldn't you change them all, at least on the same side? This being a known issue with this motor.
Seems kinda impudent to keep it running with all that knocking. A broken valve spring can cause further damage if left running.
skip to 3:35 I explain why I only run the engine long enough to do my checks. Thank you for watching!
With a bad misfire you're not just damaging the cats but also the cylinder walls themselves
So all that for just 1 spring?
Yes sir.
Wyai need u to fix my truck😭😭
Oil fields need 7,3 powerstrokes in their superdutys
Sounds like a ford. Ticking lifters is par.
I got triggered by that battery terminal. Holy crap.
My engine comparative to never looks like that mess. This truck has been beaten on
Thats a fix for how much 💪+👢=$$$$$$$ lol
I'm glad I live in a state I can delete the cats
Over revving the engine causes valves to "float"....breaking and bending valves, and valve springs.
Company truck...drive it like you stole it. Bad employees. Possible bad rev limiter.
Bullshit. Bad valve springs. I have had this truck since new and oil changed every 3000 to 5000 miles depending on what kinda miles.
Skip the scan tool next time.....
I like to show what you would see on the scan tool if you had this problem. Thanks for watching!
Great video !
