  • In This video I show the steps and procedures necessary to replace a valve spring on a 6.2 L Ford motor. This seems to be a common issue with these engines overtime. Overall the job is not too difficult however there are a couple tips and tricks I show you along the way that make the job easy. Vehicle we are working on is a 2015 Ford F-250. It has 127,000 miles on it. If you found this video helpful please like and subscribe. Below are links to parts and tools are used to make the repair. Thank you

    Thanks for the video.
Rather than using air to keep the valve in place, I have seen old timers move the piston to near TDC, feed in a length of pull cord (like from a lawnmower) and move the piston to full TDC to press against the valve. No hissing sound and no worries about the compressed air being interrupted.

How nice it is to be able to narrow down what valve is faulty. I did a valve stem seal job on my '93 3000GT and it was a MAJOR project! Didn't get to finish cause my buddy decided to torque the header bolts to 28ftlbs completely snapping 2 bolts..couldn't weld to the aluminum or afford sending it to the shop, so I had to get rid of it cause of the wife for a whopping.........$80....I cried seeing it taken away

Was this intake valve spring broken or just weak? If it was just weak would you think it wise to change them all out while you have it open?

Great video. I have a 2012 F-250 with the same motor. Fortunately it’s at 90k. Not looking forward to changing 16 spark plugs. You may want to do a video on that. Again thanks.

Hopefully yours isn't as bad as the one I did this morning. Book calls for 2.7 hours. Took me 4.5. Fuck Ford for using 16 plugs. The boots were all brittle and many of them stayed in the engine when I removed the coils. Just broke right off and we're stuck to the plugs including the rear driver's side which is so far back you can't get your head in there to even see what you're doing so I spent an hour with a pick and pliers taking it out piece by piece. Real fun. At least two coils were arcing to the block at the top of the spark plug holes.

@@kimokahikolekalihi There are boot kits to repair the coils, but sometimes the coils are far gone and have to be replaced. No cheap coils either.

What scan tool is that, i know it says bosch but is there a specifc type of program? Reason i ask is because i only get a hesitation when towing and cruise control, very slight after doing all 16 plugs, coils, wires. It was worse but would like to know all cylinders are operating perfectly.

Did you only replace the one because the customer only wanted to pay for the 1?
How many miles did it take to fail the spring 120k?
Did ford use a better alloy for the OEM replacement knowing the original sauce was this motors Achilles heel?

Didn’t look like a broken spring. Bad coil?

I would have changed all 16 springs. They are known as the weakest link on these motors… For Sure

It’s not a hard job. Detailed yes. I’d take all day to do it but at least I wouldn’t have an issue after install.

@@AaronHinesAutohey buddy, quick question. I have a 26 Kobalt air compressor, what PSI do i need to set up the compressor to supply air into the cylinder to keep the valve in its place? And also, will that 26 air compressor will work to do the job? Thanks in advance!!!

all that work to replace only ONE? NO, they all should be done at the same time, they are prone to failure, along with all the gaskets. this is fkn stupid. $200 in springs, $3k+ in labor, gfys. passenger side valve cover gasket is a guaranteed leaker, just like EVERY 5.4L 2 or 3 valve engine.
