Hulk is not a separate entity from Banner, he is just the manifestation of his anger. He's still Bruce, but very full of rage. It makes him stronger, but dulls his intelligence. By becoming the "Smart Hulk" he doesn't "kill" the Hulk persona, he remerges the Hulk persona with the redt of his persona. As a result, he gains much of Hulk's strength, but loses some of his intelligence as Banner. Byt for the first time in the MCU, we finally saw Banner able to show a full range of emotion. Instead of repressing his anger for fear of turning, he is able to lash out in anger.
Maybe ancient one has good controll over her power and she seperated banner only cuz hulk might been too harmful
