Here's what really bothers me about those movies on a fundamental level which now bleeds through into how people talk about venom. Venom is not a him. Venom is a them. The symbiote is not venom and eddie brock is not venom. Venom is a combination of the two and uses "we" and "us" as pronouns as a result. But in the movie the symbiote is just named venom and even when eddie is bonded to it they refer to themselves as "I". It shows such a fundamental lack of understanding of the character that it is no wonder eddie and the symbiote just seem like an old married couple that can't get along through most of the second film.

in the comics most symbiotes are or at least were mindless piles of goo used as a form of punishment by the more "enlightened" races of the galaxy. Used them like a bomb. Drop one on a battlefield, it grabs on to someone and then begins ripping everyone else around it to pieces. They've retconned a lot of stuff about symbiotes lately.

There are plenty of continuity errors and retcons throughout the infinity saga as newer movies came out, such as SHIELD being called SHIELD in Captain Marvel but then somehow 20ish years later in Iron Man they are still figuring out what to call themselves...or how the multiverse rules seem to change every single iteration of Dr Strange movies or his appearance in other MCU movies, go watch what they say in Dr Strange 1...the ease with which the Rainbow Bridge is repaired after Thor 1 made it sound nearly impossible, its all forivable because the Infinity Saga kicks ass
