We pentaholics recognise that this group doesn’t do covers, they do UPGRADES. They are absolute perfection! No this is not an original, many people have covered it. Scott was singing in Italian, flawlessly.
Here are a few Pentatonix originals, off the top of my head: "Run To You" "Happy Now" "The Lucky Ones" "Sing" "Thank You" "Light In The Hallway" "Be My Eyes" "Coffee In Bed" "Kid On Christmas" "Please, Santa, Please" The last two of those are obviously Christmas songs, but none of the others are.
Most pentaholics listen to Christmas music year-round, simply because Pentatonix puts out so much of it. HOWEVER, it kind of works both ways - it seems that Pentatonix always puts at least one song that isn't really a Christmas song on their Christmas album. Examples of non-Christmas songs first released by Pentatonix on a Christmas album include: "Hallelujah" "White Winter Hymnal" "Kiss From a Rose" "Prayers For This World" "The Prayer" They published "The Prayer" on their 2021 Christmas album, "Evergreen." Most pentaholics think this should have won a Grammy. Unfortunately, it's the publisher's responsibility to submit songs to the Academy, and whoever it was at RCA who should have done that was asleep at the switch. It was never submitted so it was never even considered for nomination. And if I sound angry about that it's only because I am. Isn't that a gorgeous suit Scott is wearing? Do you notice that he ISN'T wearing a scarf, or gloves? That's because they aren't actually in a snowy forest; this was filmed indoors, on one of the most beautiful sets I've ever seen. Either Mitch or Kirstin could have sung the lead; they have much the same range and on occasion they sound very much alike. But Kirstin's real forte is belting out those high notes and Mitch's is ethereal (some would say angelic) vocals, which made Mitch the better choice to lead in "The Prayer." Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli each recorded solo versions of "The Prayer" for the 1998 film, _"Quest for Camelot."_ Dion's was in English and Bocelli's was in Italian. Later, they released a duet version on their albums "These Are Special Times" (1998 - Dion) and "Sogno" (1999 - Bocelli). Source: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prayer_(Celine_Dion_and_Andrea_Bocelli_song) Obviously, Pentatonix chose to cover the duet version. And wouldn't you know that Scott would be the best choice for Andrea Bocelli's part, when Scott is the member of Pentatonix most likely to forget the lyrics (according to everyone in Pentatonix, including Scott)? No, he doesn't speak Italian; he had to learn this by rote, and he worked very hard to get the pronunciation right. According to people who do speak Italian he succeeded.
All the members of Pentatonix agreed that they can do whatever they want musically outside of the group as long as it doesn't interfere with the group as a whole. Scott and Mitch have done quite a few things under the name "Super Fruit", Kirstie has gotten involved with Disney, and Kevin has a slew of videos of him playing the cello and beatboxing.
I appreciate your love for this group. A few things; first don't worry about doing this outside of the Christmas season as it isn't a Christmas song 😊. Second, as others have said, this song was originally released in 1998 for a movie, Quest For Camelot. Celine Dion and Andre Boccelli sang it together with Andre singing the Italian and Celine the English - just as Mitch and Scott did in their rendition. It was very popular through the early 2000s and PTX's cover of it is fantastic and gives me chills every time. For some of their original music, try "Sing" and their mini concert, "2016 Popspring" performance. It has 3 originals plus their evolution of Michael Jackson. It's about 15 minutes long, but everyone loves that concert so don't feel it's too long for your listeners. It has the benefit of introducing you to some of their great original music as well as wow-ing you with how fantastic they sound live. Looking forward to seeing your reaction to it.
Have you ever reacted to Superfruit? As in Scott and Mitch as a duo? They had a vlog channel that morphed into a music group and it’s more stunning and perfect than you can imagine.
@@NavyDoc5184Reacts When Mitch and Scott were living together they used SuperFruit as a weekly vlog. They also put out two albums named "Future Friends" (1 and 2, respectively) and posted the official videos to SuperFruit. Almost everything on SuperFruit is funny - the two exceptions are a cover of Katy Perry's "Rise" that they performed with three friends (all part of the LGBTQ+ community), in response to the Pulse massacre in 2016, and "The Promise," from February 14, 2019; it was the last thing they posted to SuperFruit. The cover of "Rise" is marvelous; it's a powerful statement of self-affirmation and defiance of the odds. When you get to it, be sure to read the full description, where they dedicate the song. Except for official videos, if it's on SuperFruit and it's funny, stick around past the obvious end of the video for the blooper reel. Fan favorites include "Defying Gravity," "FROZEN MEDLEY (feat. Kirstie Maldonado)," and "GUY.EXE" (one of those official videos).
the song was not written by them but by 4 other composers. Recorded most famously by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli who sang in Italian, this a kind of tribute to have Scott sing his verse in Italian
Lovely reaction. Scott’s Italian was really beautifully done. Mitch owned his leads (I will never ever get enough of his voice). You’re absolutely right that Scott and Mitch together is a magical combination, but they are all so good together that every pairing works, like Matt and Mitch in Mad World, and Scott and Kirstin in Shallow, and Kirstin and Mitch in Be My Eyes, and Kirstin and Kevin in Run To You, etc. Kirstin pulled out her pop belt on this one, and it was glorious.
Please Santa Please is a Christmas original that you need to see. My other recommendations from this last album are Kiss From a Rose and O holy night, both are as epic as The Prayer and clearly that’s saying something.
i love a man that can cry. 'happy now' is one of their originals that's fun. i love their original songs. however, their recent cover of seal's 'kiss from a rose' done live in the the vevo studio is outstanding and you need to see kevin's solo.
This is the cover song that made me an INSTANT Pentaholic when it was released in 2021. I listened to it 20 times in a row and the rest is history. I’ve heard it 100s of times now, and I still get chills. The talent of these people (👽?) is beyond comprehension. Some of my favorite originals: Coffee in Bed, Happy Now, Sing, Can’t Sleep Love (live version from Popspring 2016 is best), Be My Eyes, See Through, Na Na Na, Love Me When I Don’t and Please Santa Please. 😁
This arrangement is stunning. They recorded a lot more layers then they would normally put into an arrangement to make the song seem so much more ‘full’. You can clearly hear it when the five of them get together and it really kicks off. But at the end of the day it’s still all them.
Great reaction but I do have to mention it’s a cover of a song previously done by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli (not sure if they are the composers). This PTX performance is the one for me, no doubt. Also tugs at my heartstrings too. I’m a Pentaholic, after all. Much love from South Africa!
I can listen to Pentatonix Christmas anytime of the year. They are so great. ❤ I love them. I listen to them every day for 3 years straight, maybe 4. Lol
The song is originally from a late-90s animated feature, "Quest for Camelot". The movie (Warner Bros, not Disney) had a number of songs, but this was the only one that made any kind of a splash. Celine Dion sang it in the movie, but it was much shorter - only the first verse that Mitch sang was actually in the movie. Both Celine and Andrea Bocelli (who did the song in Italian for the international audience) released it on individual albums, but their duet is what really became a hit.
It's actually a better rendition than the original which was done by Celine Dion and Andre Botticelli. The part that Scott did was in Italian, but Mitch's responses weren't a direct translation. You'd have to look up the lyrics to find out what the Italian portion was actually saying. Regardless, it's a gorgeous rendition of a beautiful song. Thanks so much for doing a reaction to it. PS:...there's no restrictions on when to do PTX Christmas music!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it, and appreciate the encouragement. Granted, I personally don't mind if haters get vocal. It counts as engagement on the channel which causes YT to push it out more so I'm cool with it.
This is not a Christmas song. Pentatonix always put non-Christmas songs on their Christmas albums. This is a year-round song. Listen to the lyrics. Thanks for the reaction.
Yea I gathered that after I listened to it. I think I assumed it was a Christmas song because I believe I saw something stating it was on their Christmas album.
Don't worry about your emotions. It makes everybody feel. It's really hard to believe that there are no instruments - all acapella/ There is a real good live version of this on You Tube from their appearance on the I-Heart radio special.

If you don't know a language or who the person is, don't guess but ask the listeners to help. Be sure I am only giving tips. Good luck in all you do!
The Prayer is not a PTX original. It is a song written in coaboration with several so writers and performed by many artists, but is best known as performed by Celine Dion and Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. Scott's part was sung in Italian as is done in the Dion/Bocelli version. Mitch's part was just heavenly. Great reaction.
