Hi NavyDoc, I’m Joe and Ron is my friend. I saw this but forgot to comment. No one expects Tori. Your reaction is fairly accurate and representative. I’ve been requesting reactions to Tori since November and CZcams introduced me to her in mid October. There are a bunch of short videos and some long form. That has been growing at a good clip now. I see some recommendations in the comments. All good. I’ll put in my 2¢ below with her newest. This has only a little to do with Karen. Carpenters appeared on a Perry Como Special and they and Perry did a medley where they traded singing their respective hits. So Karen wound up singing one line of Perry’s big hit, It’s Impossible. My friend in the UK, Dan Wesley who made a couple of videos about Tori’s singing abilities. He’s a Musician/singer/producer. He wondered, what if Karen had sung the entire song. So he reached out to Tori with that idea. Turns out it’s one of her favorite songs. Who knew? She agreed to do the song with Dan. Given he’s in England and she’s in Minnesota, logistics wasn’t a thing. So they did the same type of music in boxes video. Just fewer boxes as it was just piano and voices. This is Tori at her finest just being Tori with a song that’s not really a Carpenters cover. Not that there’s anything wrong with Carpenters covers. It was recently revealed that Jim and Tori’s next cover is; Close To You. In the mean time if you’re going on a Tori deep dive, this is her newest. I’ll do the opposite of Ron, I’ll undersell it. She did OK, just OK. I mean she can barely sing in tune. Poor dear. So you can be relaxed and not worry about her singing. It’s average at best. OK did I undersell it enough? I have the same sentiment every time I listen to this song. Although it's a 16 minute long song, I don't want it to end. The outro is probably one of the most beautiful outros of any song. And I thnk that's why I don't want it to end. It's like looking at something so beautiful that you can't but keep constantly looking.

Thanks Doc for getting to this reaction so quickly. It never gets old witnessing the looks on peoples faces when they listen to this for the first time! I can't say I'm surprised, but your reaction was so profound that it surprised even me. I am so glad I recommended that you listen to the original first, because the impact would not have been the same without knowing it well. Tori has said that her goal is not to be Karen Carpenter. She is not trying to imitate. Her voice just naturally sounds very much like Karen's. I have never heard a voice like this in 50 years, so timeless. Tori has an original song which I see is posted by another viewer below. She also has a number of shorts on TikTok of various Carpenter songs as well as other artists. She is coming out shortly with a version similar to this of their famous hit, Close to You. I and another gentleman who is close to Tori's journey will recommend sort of a playlist for you so be on the lookout. In the interim, I will give you one that is phenomenal. But again listen to the original if you are not familiar. It is the Bacharach/David Medley again with Jim Wilkas harmonizing with Richard's part. I really appreciate all you do and your commentary was well received. By the way, I would not call this a cover. It is a recreation or reincarnation. As an added bit of information, Tori was invited The end of April to appear at the Carpenter's 55th anniversary celebration in LA. She performed two songs, and unexpectedly, Richard Carpenter showed up and she had the honor of meeting him and speaking with him backstage! Peace out.

This is such a perfect video for those experiencing Tori for the first time. Seeing reactions like yours never gets old. Jim Wilkas' technique a' la Leonid and Friends in showing all the parts is masterful given the complex overdubbing of the original harmonies. That being said, as much as Tori shares many qualities with Karen, she very much has her own voice and has a rather impressive range. There is another Carpenters tribute she did that was augmented by Jim Wilkas (Tori's collaborater in this video) and is very entertaining. It's a medley of Burt Bacharach/Hal David songs that the Carpenters would often perform live. I don't think you would be disappointed. Link is below. From your reaction I am not sure you understood what the song is about. It is basically all about Whitley Bay and the amusement park called Spanish City near Newcastle where Mark grew up and spent his formative, read teenage, years. We had a carnival or fair in my little hometown once a year and that was were we'd hang out with friends, go on rides and/or try to catch the eye of a pretty girl. The Tunnel of Love is a bigger ride, so hence the title. For me it was either bumper cars or merry-go-round. Small town, as I said.

Loved the reaction. if you are especially looking for their covers of Michael Jackson, i would recommend their version of Smooth Criminal. but as always, PMJ is a great channel just to browse their videos as they have a large collection of talented musicians and singers.

Great reaction. Private Investigations was mentioned as a song to check. However I would go "On The Night" live version from 1991 if you really want a witness Mark show his chops on a classical guitar.

Brothers in Arms would get to you more than this tune, especially the live version at Nelson Mandela's 70th birthday party gig at Wembley stadium, with Eric Clapton on rhythm guitar.....

I was probably at this concert. I saw quite a few bands bands at Wembley Arena & the Stadium as I used to work nearby. I saw DS quite a few times in the 80's & they are my favourite band from my youth. DS are one of those bands that actually sound better live than some of their studio tracks. Great review. Have a look at some early DS from the late '70's.

Dire Straits brings tears to the eyes of more than one person. Mark is a genius, his singing, or rather his storytelling, and his guitar playing touches everyone's heart. You have a lot to discover from this fantastic group, one of my favorites and I don't know why it is not so well known is Planet of New Orleans from the album On every Street, that song gives me goosebumps.

Heartbreaking nostalgia oozes from Mark's fingertips in that last solo. Thanks for the reaction.😊

My favorite Dire Straits song - Several great live versions from around this time period. I still prefer the studio version on Making Movies- Roy Bittan on keys; slightly slower, more vocal/melody nuance - And THE BEST dynamic guitar solo-band build. One reason it is my fave, even more than Telegraph Road - is the songwriting form & dynamics

The reason why you have seen so many live recordings is simple: Floor has three live albums with four concerts, but only two studio albums. There are simply many more live recordings with Floor. And the band and especially Floor are much better live. Tuomas does not explain all the songs because you should find out the meaning for themselves. We all want to see and hear it live, but there will be no tour. Tours are not planned for the time being and explicitly not for the next album in September. But they have also just signed a new contract with their label. It will continue at some point. Marko has now set conditions for a possible return. Maybe we will have two main singers at some point. Troy sings at the end. He was already a session player in 2007 and became a member with Floor in 2013. The drummer Kai was a session player from 2015 and will become a member in 2019. Troy has also sung entire songs: Nightwish - The Carpenter (Floor Jansen) [Decades - Live In Buenos Aires 2019]

Nightwish dont dissapoint "did you feel the ghost energy song" I listened to this song many, many times by now, and it is one i like to listen to with my headphones or without, its really a good song, when i can do so to me. Some say Floors voice is low in the mix, and i can agree its hard to get all words she sing, but if you look at it soundwise it sounds amazing!! and after a listen or 2, you know most of lyrics, and its no problem at all, its done fully on purpose for the sound experince of it, and Floor being part of the choir of ancestors,.. cant wait for rest of album!! Yesterwynde is the opening track on new album, i belive its only like a intro, its a little over 2 min long, #2 on album then is a almost 10 min song, thats proberly another epic!! #3 is where i think they bring in a heavy track, and this Perfume of the timeless is #5.. so i think its gonna be a good mix of heavy songs, Epics, and maybe a full balled.. Perfume of the timeless, well its almonst a ghost energy song right, telling all these ancestors is around as ghosts in a timeless world, being around you still, also a message that your existens matters, that your ancestors was going through, sadness, hasppiness, love stories, to make your existence posible, and your actually lucky to win the lottery of life, so seize the day!!!! i feel tuomas also put in a little message that mankind could do better still, Einstein turn to ape.. We're blessed man. We found them. I follow Yoyoka Soma, drummer prodigy, who was reacted to by Old Mr B. who went on and on about BandMaid. It took me over a year to get past my prejudice about maid outfits. It really clicked for me on just how epic they are when Wave Potter stripped out everything but MISA's bass line during an in depth analysis. Mind blown!

Misa's a real master of her instrument. She'll slap and pop, she'll hybrid pick and pop, she'll tap, she'll pick in a specific direction because the sound is slightly different. She'll jump up and down the neck when she could have just moved over a string, because she prefers the sound of one string for a given note. Kanami is similar on guitar. She'll play stuff in a way that's much harder that a normal guitarist wouldn't do, because they don't care about something being easy. They care about giving their audience the highest quality music.
