I just started watching this morning and very interested in getting back into it but pretty much computer illiterate and not sure where or how to get started. If you could be generous enough to give some advice or pointers on how and what to buy to get started. I'm guessing "rig" means your outfit/control's like a cockpit? I'm going to continue watching more videos like this and try to learn more about it all and what's all needed. I really appreciate any advice and I can't wait to get started. I bought one of those about a month ago. It is on the front of my Simlab P1X. I had to get a little creative to attach it, as the Simlab chassis was a few mil too wide. I already have the motion simulator for my seat. They work together very nicely and I am happy with the result. Plenty of movement, and Like Will, I turned the settings down quite a bit. As an example of how it feels, I love turn 1 at Brands Hatch. With this unit, you get to feel the sudden nose down and quick chassis movement up again, as you dip and then go up the hill. Puts a smile on my face!
The only downside is that between the 2 units price wise, I could have come close to affording a top of the line dof system (Maybe?). I couldn't afford to pay out the large amount at one time for a top end dof system, so being able to buy the seat unit, and this one a year apart made it possible for me.
So, overall I am very happy with this system, but my wallet is still feeling some pain. This was roughly $3700 US dollars. I bought the seat unit last year and it was around $2900 US. Thanks Will for a great review! Nice to see the internals are first rate gear.

My Motion Plus has engine vibrations in Dirt Rally 2.0 - I definitely can feel very convincing engine vibration in every stage start. I have it in front, paired with V3 in back. Have 13 bass shakers in total, after adding motion plus did not needed the front ones so much any more. the back ones are filling very well the gap form using only one platform in front - both ends now feel the same. Have to say paired with V3 seat mover this is very good combination.

Built my own 4 actuators system at the beginning of the year (Fully DIY'd to my own design) and whilst I 100% agree it will not make you faster, that is only part of story.
When I first sit in the rig for an evening racing (iRacing exclusively, I don't have the time to learn other sims as well) it used to take 30-40 mins to get within 0.5s of my previous evenings times, with the motion rig I often get within 0.5s by my third lap.
Also I used to have moments where my brain would loose sync with with what the car was doing, a bit like it you were to pause a game half way around a corner then resume some time later and not know if you were sliding, how much steering lock was applied an so on. With the extra stream of feedback from the motion rig I no longer have those moments.
It's not quite as simple as adding motion though, it took me around 50 hours to get comfortable with motion, for those first 50 hours it was just distracting and I dropped over 25% in iRating.

Agree and not with this remarks..... Motion is important for the driver : they need to have some reference point.... and for exemple the rear traction loss will give you this important information that a static simulator and wheel can't ! But (like in real), it's tiring to drive with the motion and it's the reason why some driver do best time with motion (generally real driver/pro-driver) and some don't..... But for sure : real and pro driver must and do training on motion simulator......

Completely agree! I removed my NLRv3 of 3.5 years and immediately improved my lap times, but although I also improved my time trial times in Dirt Rally 2.0, I found it was no longer fun to drive Rally without motion. Great review, as always. I will just counter that "Motion not making faster" argument with my story. I was running my SFX-100 with buttkicker gamer 2 for a while and was doing preparation for Bathurst race when my wife started to complain about buttkicker noise, so I was sad, but switched it off, but to my surprise, it made me faster in next lap, and in 3 laps I was doing a half a second faster, just because I was feeling more all the right clues from motion that were previously drowned by buttkickers "vibration noise". So correctly set up motion will make you "me" faster. And yes, less is more

    • @boostedmedia
      @boostedmedia  Před rokem +10

When tactile is done right it is completely natural and not noise. After I removed my NLRv3 motion system my lap times improved, but I have a full tactile system with powerful amps, DSP's, large BK-CT's and TST-429's as well as exciters on my seat. With the right profiles that creates immersion on the track that I would take over a motion system any day of the week. However for Rally and flight, motion makes a much larger difference to me and I have trouble driving Rally without motion.

I think you point on being faster is right on point. One view is that information /immersion goes up in a motion system, but it is more challenging and speed goes down (At least for a while). Why? Because just as in a real car, you have to work through the effects of the environment, such as dealing with the shaking and movement, and gforces. Better said, in a real car, all of those things work against you….they are additional challenges to compensate for. What impresses me about real world race car drivers is that they are able to drive with pinpoint accuracy despite being thrown around, and subjected to vibration and g-forces. Sit in a static rig, and all that goes away. Other than what you get from steering wheel FFB, you are remain focused mostly on exercising your memory(memorization of the track), timing, and hand/eye coordination.

Hi Will. Thanks for this review. Regarding the importance of motion in sim racing: have you ever raced with high tyre wear (4× or 5×)? In this condition any motion systems make you more consistent and less prone to mistakes since you can "sense" the car sliding lap after lap just a fraction of second before it happens. That's because you drive with 3 senses: vision, hands (feedback from the steering wheel), and your back/butt (pitch and roll from a motion system). In this context motion systems make the majority of drivers faster and more consistent. Running a racing center with motion simulators I experience this multiple times with different drivers. However this is not true for drivers that do not feel the car with their butt/back (25% of the drivers in my experience).

But it does cost $5000, which I do not understand when it really is a half of the normal motion rigs. This product will be much more competitive at between $2000-$3000. This is just my opinion, but seeing as you mentioned around 30 times in the video that this is 'quite expensive' and recommended that we look at other options currently on the market. • @KNARFNY

The DK2 is 3-DOF, @ $5,145. If you go with 2 x Motion Plus, you're at $7,000, you're also at 3-DOF. You've got a 500-pound limit on the DK2 compared to 550-pounds on a single Motion Plus, not sure if that limit goes up with two Motion Plus? I think the major advantage with Next Level Racing is the fact that it supports nearly every 'motion' game known to man with constant updates rolled out, plus their VR support is second-to-none. I'd say the DK2 is lacking with support for less than ~15 games, especially considering the price. I guess it really depends on the user. I'm going from ATS, to iRacing, to Assetto Corsa. I'm kind of all over the place, which is why I love Next Level Racing. Thanks for this detailed review! 👍🏻

As much as I loved the seat mover, the moment I switched over and hard mounted my seat again to my rig, I had an instant realization of just how much I missed being so stabilized within my seat. I do miss some added features of the NLR software compared to D-Box though, however obviously d-box has many advantages of its own.

LOL! I've got 3 people who seem to be reinforcing my next motion system now :) Seems likely just a matter of time.
FYI, I've had an NLRv3 for over 3 years now and it does work remarkably well, but has a few drawbacks.
      1. Brake pedal max pressure limit. Basically at about 70kg or so it will start to shut down on you mid race. So for Sprints limited to 60kg, not an issue. With my new Ultimate+'s, I currently have them set to 60kg.
      2. Weight limits. I'm still below it's weight limit, but bigger guys may not be.
      3. I know a few people who have had to send them back to be serviced and it seemed like a bit of effort. Most complained about long wait times, expensive shipping and being without their NLRv3 for a while. But they will fix it or help you to fix it yourself so you don't need to ship it. I know a couple people who did that and were happy with the results.
Mine has been perfectly reliable. The software is super easy to use and configure. NLR supports a large number of titles. I've got mine setup for iRacing, ACC, RBR, Dirt Rally 2.0, Kart Kraft, and DCS. It sips power is pretty quiet etc..
