Sounds Great my friend! I tell ya, adding that traction loss frame is the bomb! I would not have it any other way now.. (except a 6DOF!) Thanks for the comment! DMAX
You are heaven sent! Ive been looking for someone that actually shares information. Im Gonna make one to play racing with my son in vr

I love the u-joint idea!!!! Brilliant
Thanks for the comment my friend! Yeah, super strong - just weld it in.. good to go.. DMAX
Ok Guys! I'm making a new 3 video 'series' on how to upgrade your 'static' rig to a seat mover so check back on this channel and as always, leave a few comments! DMAX

Thanks for the comment and the LIKE. I really appreciate it! - BTW did you ever get that Rollercoaster SIM working again. Rollercoaster tycoon, that is.. This type of Rig can run off the data - And with the WIND SIM.. Should be great! DMAX
For someone that's never welded before, your welds look awesome man. 👌... sweet racing rig.
Thanks Gear Jammer.. (nice name btw). DMAX
Thanks! I'm just getting the idea to build one and I knew there was a cheap solution!
Awesome job but may I suggest finding someone w/ experience in high end electronic installs (home theater, car audio/ video, etc) to help clean up your wiring a bit. I've found a second set of eyes is always beneficial especially on longer term projects.
Incredible ingenuity nonetheless!
Juan, You are probably right.. But these are both just 'test' simulators. super basic and just testing parts out to see what happens.. I actually plan on building a real motion rig and building in wiring tunnels etc into the frames but have not started that project yet..
Soon though, I'll concentrate on getting things a bit more 'permanent' Thanks for the comment! Dave
Absolutely amazing. Nice work done mate!!!!

Awesome video. So many of us have gone through something similar over the past year and a half. I Personally went from a Thrustmaster wheel attached to a laptop stand in front of the TV to a full cockpit with DD wheel butt kicker VR etc. A buddy of mine in his 60's has 2 full rigs now and is contemplating a 3rd lol. What you have done here is inspiring.

@@DMAX_DIY I’m watching! 👍😎
Thanks so much for this overview. When i get some time I would love to build one and this broke it down into easy pieces to understand what I would need to do. When i look at your rig, it looks so complicated, but actually its just simple steps. Really hoping this video gets some traction as you have some great content.
Thanks for taking a look! It's really just a bunch of parts that work together pretty well. Takes a little time to build it. But by making it yourself, if something acts weird, you know what it is and it's usually pretty cheap to fix. If something goes haywire with a commercial rig, you have to send it in. We all pretty much use the same components anyway (from what I can see). In any case, this thing is an absolute blast to drive in VR. Now with the Wind Sim, it's even Cooler haha DMAX😀

I found you through learning how to make the basic motor setup. I am going for a VR superbike. I already have gymnastics pads for my room scale. I broke my foot once and my hand 2 times. I have the Open wheeler frame with G29. It needs motion too. Cool setup

Edited. I just looked in the videos. You already thought of it 🤣
Dead Side.. Thanks for the comment my friend.. Yeah It's so friggin cool.. I just love it! Pretty real and allows me to 'almost' drive expensive cars! DMAX
Epic. I just bought Logitech wheel and pedals for vr racing and built an mdf sim cockpit to hold it all. Now I’m looking at 3dof rig too. All in one week 😂
Yeah the Logitech wheel and pedal setup are very light.. When I swapped over to the Fanatec.. way way heavier.. I had to re-balance the rig..
This looks powerful. I’m a machinist with some welder buddies and would love to make one of these!
Thanks for the comment my friend! Yeah, motion rigs are way too cool. I absolutely love it. Making another one right now - a setmover project - for anyone who want motion, but not a full frame. DMAX
@@DMAX_DIY Subscribed! Would you mind elaborating what translates the signal from the game to the motors for the motion? I am also a machinist and I want to build one and my biggest holdback is not understanding what's making the motion. Is it software? How do you know how many pulses of the motor to create the desired motion? Am i overthinking it?
very cool man i dont got any of the skills u got for this loll u fr came to a motion chair not knowing crap and some how just know how to do the tec stuff lol and even learned to weld

very Cool !!!!!
Thanks my friend! I appreciate the comment.. Keeps me going! Dave
This is awesome. Once I upgrade to a better pc I think I'm gonna build one of these. I built my own rig from wood and I love it even though it's not a motion Sim.
Nice! Tell you what though.. you dont need a very good pc to run the motion. I have a couple series where I used the worst laptop and it runs the game and the motion system at the same time.. The real reason to get the better PC would be for using VR which takes a lot of resourses.. The motion programs require hardly any processing power as all they do is read the game telemetry I/O
@@DMAX_DIY I plan to get a better pc to run assetto corsa since all I can run is live for speed at the moment and then get vr and then build a motion rig at some point. I also need to get a better wheel setup since I'm using a Logitech g920. It's a great wheel but when I'm drifting it just barely keeps up.
incredible!!... just miss a little of painting
Thanks my friend! I appreciate it.. Not sure if I am 'finished' with it yet.. so wont paint it till it's in the final iteration. But it's real close!

Very cool. Waiting for my PS5 to arrive, just got the PSVR2 headset and going with the G29 wheel for now. Tonight while looking at reviews I came across this YAW seat and 2 or 3 DOF. It's like this is a great idea, wonder if I can build it myself. Poof, here's D Max (thought Duramax at first) and his own ideas. Now I'm thinking why can't I build my own wheel and stuff? Ok maybe not while I'm working overseas but when I retire in 18 months or so. Party on Garth. Thanks!!!

Great video. Really tempted to attempt one myself. How did u like the butt kickers? I think thats my next upgrade atm
Thanks for the comment Travis. Ok the buttkickers were well worth it! I liked them so much I got two - one for front and one for back. I did a video on setting them up with free simhub software, but they work with other software too. If they are not 'on' it feels like something is wrong with the rig.. Pretty good stuff. DMAX
Very cool and thanks for sharing. Can you give an estimate on costs related to your 3 dof solution. I am also curious how you created the tension rods that connect to the motors and back of the seat frame.
Keep going!
Thanks for the question and comment Rob.. The tie rods are just 1/2 in conduit.. I bought some left and right hand tie rod ends from amazon and just pushed them into the open conduit.. then tack weled.. Here is a video on the costs.. czcams.com/video/4cTyjsvO-i8/video.html
This is my first time, got this…”
OH GOD. GOOD LUCK.
Welcome to the world of welding! Yeah it holds, but the look will start bothering you IF NOT PERFECT. Seriously this will hit you hard!
Yeah.. the look bothers me.. That Surprisingly the welds actually held up for 3 years so far. Which great because there is a lot of stress on these joints. Much more comfortable welding now after 3 years since this vid.. But now your right.. Dave
Love your shirt: 'real cars don't shift themselves'. Unfortunately given how the vast majority of car owners don't drive a car with a real transmission, the point is lost in them. But hey, real drivers get it. Cheers on a very nice rig.
Hahah! Nice.. yea.. it is what it is.. Love the gated shifter myself.. but building a new rig and have a new series on it.. Sooooo few people with the ability to do this stuff in a real way that there is so little in the way of basic info. Thanks for this it gets me started at least knowing where to start getting things together.
Great Comment and observation.. Yeah. 3 years ago I barely knew what any of these things were.. I did a bit a poking around on YT and found X simulator.net. Used the info to build my first motion sim. I had no idea what any of this was except I did like Grand Turismo on the play station with a controller but watching a few things made me think.. I can do that too - but didnt see any videos on it.. - So there we go. I decided to post up some stuff cause it worked pretty good. I have a new video coming out in the next couple days on the COMPACT simulator . Hope you have time to watch.. I'm working on the edit right now. And thanks for your comment.. Keeps me plugged in and helps me remember to keep posting stuff. Dave
@@DMAX_DIY have you looked into / found / built anything using the piston style D box style ? I’m really thinking that’s the way to go as that seems to be the most popular and highly touted motion platform these days. If I can find the hardware ( I haven’t started really trying yet ) and there are software solutions to use it (which clearly there are) then I may try to go that route. Any suggestions or have you come across other DIY piston style ? I don’t really know what else to call them. But it’s what D box uses , one on each corner of the rig.
@@SticksAandstonesBozo so I used to mess around with a lot of pneumatic actuators back when I was involved in the Halloween Fright scene.. a long time ago. So I do read about these (electrical screw assemblies (as opposed to pneumatics) and I see the benefits. I would suggest looking up " six degrees of flight" - on YT he has not posted in a while but he was using this type of actuator.. also I am in contact with "MOTION simulators" on YT and sort of on Facebook, which I dont look at that often.. Many of those guys are building the same things.. 3 DOF, 6 DOF etc using the DIY actuators. I just have not had a chance to bite off that much yet.. YET.. This is awesome! Someday I wanna build one of these. Do you think starter motors would work? Seems like they could be cheaper
Well that's a good question.. obviously they would have a lot of torque. But speed is important. You could try them and see if they translate the movement quick enough. I'll think about that and maybe post the question to the xsimulator.net forum. Maybe someone has tried it already. Thanks for the comment my friend! DMAX
when start. I try ask you for advice. see on truck somewhere 😀
Been working on the series for a little while now should be out soon. DMAX
Love every bit of this! Just curious how to program/synch the motors to the motion…
Yeah 45Mang.. that's a great question.. Ok so you set up the Arduino memory program using SMC3.. Then all motors are able to be influenced at 35,000 times per second by the game telemetry output.. So There you go.. motors are sycnched to whatever game you are playing (most top level racing - flight etc games) I have a lot more on the channel on how to do it.. DMAX
Great video. Thank you for your time and talent. What is the game are you playing in VR? 6:44 on your video, I don’t recognize that game for VR.
Hello Donkey Dem.. Appreciate the comment for sure.. Sometimes YT does not notify me if someone comments, which kinda sucks so sorry about that.. Yeah The game Is Assetto corsa. The games that the motion rig can support are here on this link so If you want to build one of these things, there is a pretty good community around it.. www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/full-frame-2-dof-traction-loss-new-build.14740/ Check back in if you have time.. That’s awesome!! I didn’t know I neeed to make one until you showed up on my feed 😂 I can figure out the building part, but what software do I need make it go live?
Thanks for watching my friend! Ok.. so I have several series on these different rigs from a-z and in each series I try and go over the SMC3 software and Simtools.. Those are what make the motors and your rig move with the game telemetry.. I'm going to do another video on them in the latest series, I just have not got there yet.. But for now.. Here a link to a Specific video. Using 24 volt motors but it's the same with 12 volt motors..

first of all amazing vid, second, how did you translate the digital info into something the motors can use?
Thanks Andrew.. Good question.. So there is a software called SimTools which does that for you. It takes the game data and the input data like "BRAKE" ACC etc and position of the motors and feeds it to the arduino which translates all that .. I have a bunch of new videos out on this subject if you want to take a look! Thanks again DMAX
It looks very interesting D Max, and good luck with dialing it all in to where you feel it is a finished project. It does look simple enough, but you must have a basic understanding still, of general engineering?. Because if you put that "micro controller" in my hands, I wouldn't have a CLUE how to use it, hahahaha
I'm pretty sure I hit "DELETE" on my Comment Single Racer Instead of "ENTER".. sorry.. I'm replying to you from like 1 year ago.. hahah Dave
This is sick! are the butt kickers worth it for you?
Thanks for the question and comment Morgan. Yes, Yes they are.. Even if you just get one and sync it to the gear shift and curbs, it's worth it.. I have a video on the site on how to set it them up too if your interested. But yeah once you get them working, you wont want to run your rig without them.. just saying.. Dave
This looks amazing.
I've been thinking about getting into sim racing. Just a question. About how much you spent on this build?
I wouldn't want to end up spending more that 1k on it. Keep in mind i don't have anything yet. Not even the wheel or pedals.
Thanks in advanced for your reply.
thanks Bro! I want to build from 0 knowledge. make rig, buttkickers, subwoofer uder seat, 5.4sub audio etc. simple Things. In future plan. cut half car with front windows and 2seats 3screen/projectors. use this like base for simple motion. active light mayby. thats the plan. thank you for share this. respect Bro👊✌️💪
Cool ideas. I am working on the zero to seat mover series now. Should be out soon. If you can handle VR, it will save you a ton of hassle cutting a car apart. That's what I use.. So the motion platoform has less weight to throw around.. Never worry about screens if you can take VR.. DMAX
It’d b much appreciated if you mentioned the specifications of the motors and your hydraulics in detail because i was planning on building one and also the technic you used to integrate it with the arduino and your IDE configuration
I Neba.. Just click on the picture for my channel.. I have many many detailed tutorials on how to build these, run the SMC3 software and Simtools to get you moving.. Plus just look in the description of the channel I have the parts listed with links..

Love the video. I most likely am gonna go break through your videos and try to copy this myself cause id rather build one then buy one haha
Thanks Isaac Christie. It's been fun.. And it's been working for like 3 years now.. no real issues.. I race it every weekend too! Thanks for the comment! DMAX
@@DMAX_DIY awesome so I know its really reliable. Right now i spend a couple hours jimmy rigging my desk with some materials i got from work(construction). So once i make this itll be a lot nicer
@@Odysseus38 Cool.. I did that too.. with triples on the bench.. Till I got the VR.. then it was game over till I heard about DIY a motion rig.. If you go to xsimulator.net.. there is a ton of guys there building all sorts of rigs. Thats where you get the Plug ins and all that.. It's legit.. No issues - Just guys trying to build stuff for simulators. Hope you take a look. Dave
@@DMAX_DIY thats so cool, and this community for sim racing seems amazing so far. Like you dont need to be rich to get into it and its not super snobby either. I love how much diy stuff there is out there to do. I cant wait to do all sorts of Ardiuno stuff with sim racing
@@Odysseus38 Well you hit the nail on the head .. Yes.. Yes YES.. It's dang cool.. pretty inexpensive.. The arduino makes it pretty easy. and all the programing is already done so Off we go ! Check back my friend! Dave
What software/interface did you use to get the motion signals from the game to the chair? Great vid.
Great question Ronald. The software interface is called simtools. It takes the game telemetry data and outputs the info into the Arduino I have a few videos on that too. Thanks for your comment! Dave
Hi I have a sim rig I did it my self I need help adding motion to it but I has a ps5 yours is pefect
Thanks alot i apriciate your work.what else potentiameter can i use instead of 6127V1A180L.5FS
Hi, I was going to use 10K wirewound pots (that's the end game) hall effect are just better and infinitely spin. I would still order the 987-1392-ND part from DIGIKEY. If shipping is the issue, just search google for similar SENSOR ROTARY 180DEG SLDR TURRET.. hope that helps
Absolutely sick! My class mates and I might go on and try something similar, and i have got a question: where do you get the in-game information from? (When the seat should move forward, to the side, etc.) Thanks in advance, you are a huge inspiration!
Fantastic comment my friend! To be brief, the game telemetry data is sent via usb to the arduino. The arduino reads the data in real time and adjusts the motor positions using the IBT-2 motor controllers. Everything starts to come alive after you turn up the Pulse width on the motors. There are many videos about it and I've done a few myself. It's a great project and absolutely works.. Dave
@DMAX_DIY Thanks a lot for the quick answer, I haven't gotten around to actually watching all of your videos, but that's definetly what I am gonna do!
Greeting from Austria 👋
@@Misp7423 Austria sounds like a cool place.. It's super hot down here in Mississippi USA.. just waiting for fall to happen.. Cheers! Dave
