Press play x2 today. Your drone photography is always just so stunning. Each photoshoot is a capture of something in a moment in time, never to be replicated the exact same way twice. I think I'd like to see you do a Landscape Documentary one day of something meaningful.

While watching this morning’s vlog, I imagined the substantial amount of time and labor you dedicate to producing these relatively brief videos. I’m always impressed with your images and the incredibly useful information you share but today I was especially struck by the behind the scenes effort you apply to your work. It’s little wonder you achieve such spectacular results.

Love this video Nigel at a number of different levels. After listening to your comments about the woodland shot, I couldn't help remembering what my painting instructor said about triangles and their ability to define composition (the woodland image surely did that); it is one of the best image I seen you do in a long time - very nicely done.

Another lovely vlog to wake up to on a Sunday morning. Thank you Nigel. Picking up on what you said about persevering, and eventually succeeding, reminds me of a South African golfing champion, Gary Player, who when asked the secret of his success replied, “The harder you try, the luckier you get”. I know the reason my photography progresses so slowly is because I don’t get out enough with my camera. To be in ‘the zone’ I find it best to do it alone or with a fellow photographer friend and that is my problem. Then of course is the time spent in Lightroom at home. Combined, the whole process is quite time consuming and difficult to plan into an otherwise busy life. When I have done it though I’ve had a great day out in the fresh air and got a couple of keepers which I’ve printed. (Had printed).
Researching areas by drone sounds a great idea. Thanks for your vlogs, and for the information you so readily give up. Cheers.

One thing, it seems like when you're back in your studio and you are doing the top down shot of the photos you took, every time you move your hands/arms, the table and camera shake. You might want to take a look into that to see if you can get that more stable.

I wonder if you have any insight into a technical question. I know you are always very thoughtful and offer intelligent insights to various aspects of photography so thought you best placed to answer.
Of course when there is too much white or black in the scene, the camera guesses the light and compensates accordingly (to 18% grey). Often it is incorrect, so the photographer needs to correct again or use manual.
My question is not to do with light, but colours. So, for example, if the scene has too much blue, or too much red, does the camera compensate this also? Does it compensate colours or does it do it with Kelvin on the white balance only? Or does the sensor have colour correction, white balance correction AND light correction functionality, i.e. all three?
Assuming the answer is yes, the sensor does colour correct. How do you as a photographer compensate agains the camera making incorrect colour assumptions? I ask this because I regularly shoot beach scenes and they are always wrongly colour cast and even in Lightroom, I can never seem to get it right.
Equally, in an evening lit scene, the colours are never quite right, even though I mess around with image in Lightroom.
I hope this question makes sense.

As long as shooting in raw you can always adjust colour as it is just the raw data. In terms of exposure - just use histogram and not metering. 👍

Hi Nigel, I love your videos. I was wondering what type of drone you use?

Why did you use your polarizer? Would the rain have made a ton of relfections?

It does yes. The water surface is much more reflective than the dry leave.
