- The Ullswater Way is a relatively new route, designated in 2016 to cover 20 miles around the shores of Ullswater Lake. In this video I walk from Patterdale to Pooley Bridge via the Ullswater Way, catching the Ullswater Steamer back to base.

Stay WILD!
I just completed the Ullswater Way this Easter weekend just gone, in part because I watched this video and I was massively inspired. My original plan was to walk clockwise from Pooley Bridge to Glenridding on Saturday, catch the steamer from Glenridding, and then on Sunday morning catch the boat to Glenridding and finish the walk via Aira Force. What actually happened was that I only made it to Howtown on the 1 st day (about 6 miles from where I needed to be), as I almost got to Howtown, then decided to go back on myself to see the Cock Pit Stone Circle and I am so glad I did because I got to see and pet wild horses. So ended up getting the steamer from Howtown - did 11 miles that day. And on Sunday, got the steamer first thing to Howtown and picked up where I left off: walked clockwise from Howtown to Glenridding back to Pooley Bridge - so did 16 miles on Sunday. I bought my badge immediately when I got home!
Hey Abbie, Did Glenridding to Pooley Bridge today, so hot nearly finished me off 😂 So happy to have a beer before getting the steamer back to GR. Thanks for the vid, your a star
Every time i watch one of your videos abbie i feel im there walking the trail with you ! Such an amazing person who i love to listen to, especially the way you articulate your love and passion for the hills and lakes is truly poetic.
Walking down the East shore of Glenridding is more challenging than the West shore route, though the scenery isn't as impressive, (mainly because you're walking through what you'd be looking at from the opposite shore of the lake!)
Recently discovered your channel. Incredible episodes of beautiful trails, sharing local history, fauna and flora and music is relaxing. You are so strong, courageous, brave and great personality. I struggle with severe chronic pain which means I cannot hike or garden right now. As an expat I watch these shows to remind me of when I did long hiking trails. Thank you for all your content and conservation work. Lisa
Thank you for being here ❤️
Ullswater definitely beats Windermere! That was such a lovely walk - I did part of it (Howtown to Glenridding) many years ago but would love to do the rest someday, especially taking in those bronze age sites. It's always so cool to visit ancient sites and just try to picture the life back then, and how the landscape must've looked.
Wow the Sun really came out for you today (or when ever it was this was recorded) Abbie, meanwhile down in Essex we are in for some more Snow..... Keep Walking, but a small warning from someone like you, I too have cover over 1000 miles hiking in my 30 years of hiking and I am now paying the price for those miles. I can now manage less than half a mile. Please Hikers World Wide, look after your bodies. I enjoyed the thousands of miles I hike, but did not think at the age of 65 (nearly 66) I would be struggling to walk the half mile to the Supermarket. Tony in Essex.
What a beautiful walk. It’s amazing how walking near water always calms me to the core. Even when it’s through your lens. Thanks Abbie.
I have walked the Lakes since I was 12. I am now in my second childhood but am astounded at the beauty which you manage to incorporate into you film Thanyou SO much for to skill.
So nice to see a warm summer's day in the winter. Beautiful.
Great video as always. I love that you take take the time to set up a DSLR and capture the environment to compliment the action cam footage - 06:34 being a great example.
Great Britain is so beautiful, I still hope that one day I can spend a week in Sherwood Forest 😄
Absolutely lovely 😀
Great video Abbie! Definitely one to do in the Summer with the family!!
Truly spectacular trees. Thanks for sharing this quiet, beautiful walk and wonderful birdsong.😊
Really enjoyed this…thanks Abbie!
Beautiful hike, thanks for sharing Abbie.
Love Ullswater. Great video.
Brilliant walk Abbie, thanks for sharing it. Love these types of walks where you can return on a boat or train etc. Can’t wait for the next one.
Thanks for taking us along on your delightful walk. The stone circle was mystifying! Loved the boat ride. Stay safe, Abbie.
Glad you enjoyed it :)
What a beautiful place to walk.. thanks for sharing with us Abbie

Could watch you on any sky documentary!
Love it and pls keep them coming.
Excellent video Abbie, beautiful scenery
Love, love, love this walk. It was one of the first that I ever did. So beautiful.
Thanks Abbie for all the videos, lots of love from the Netherlands and keep the spirit high.
Beautiful goodliness - aced the weather! Loved the tree - free and unconstrained to grow to it's full magnificence 🌱🌿🌄
Lovely video, Abbie. Wishing you all the best for 2023. :-)
I absolutely love Ullswater. I have so many memories from childhood and adult life in Glenridding and Pooley Bridge. I live just north of Newcastle so Pooley Bridge is pretty much the closest Lake to get to for a day trip. Really enjoyed your video.
Beautiful, thank you Abbie. The first part reminded me of my C2C. Thank you :)
That was a awesome hike Abbie. Love that area. 👍🌹
Abbie,top class as always ❤
Looks like a beautiful walk, thank you for your content.x
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Well I'm definitely going there 👍
Thanks for the great video, this one has been on my list!
Glad you enjoyed it!
When you ducked into the hidden path in that hedge it reminded me of my neighbour totoro where the little girl keeps getting lost in those hidden paths that keep leading her back to the same place 😆🌿
Hi Abbie thanks for sharing iv done the boat trip around this lake amazing views
Lovely video you’re amazing keep up the great work!
Every time I go to the Lakes, I see those islands and one day I am going to kayak to one and sleep in the island
Looks amazing will have to do this walk one day 😊
Thanks for this :-) Me and my mate are doing this on Saturday - it's gunna be cold, but really looking forward to it!
Really enjoyed this 1 ab 👍
See you in the next adventure 🙏
Wonderful Abbs, keep it up
Thank you 😊
Lovely.....
Love camping on Side Farm. Great video
Thanks so much!
Enjoyed the video immensely, I'm up at what I know as Helton Common where you saw the cockpit several times a week with the dogs
I occasionally pop down to Pooley Bridge but to be honest it's too busy for my taste, Patterdale and Glenridding are similar, but I'll definitely be in Patterdale for the Ullswater Show and in August the Patterdale Dog Day, fantastic local Lakeland show well worth a look if anyone is nearby.
I'm a typical local and so rarely explore the paths on my doorstep but this video has convinced me to jump in the car and have the wife drive down to Patterdale and I'll walk the route, except i may detour away from Pooley Bridge to Helton and then Bampton to sit on my stool in the Mardale inn........that's if the old legs will carry me that far🙂
Cheers🍺
Gonna have to throw down the gauntlett. Wastwater and Buttermere both surpass Ullswater and Windemere in beauty
Dreaming of following in your footsteps❣️
Me too, what a blessing we get to share her trips through videos 🙏
Beautiful abbie might be heading that way myself I've been in the mountains in the snow had to dive in a few bothys cos the snow was heavy...cold weather exposure has damaged the waterproofing of my tent and last night's downpour over on fairlands mount took its toll an my tent was flooded this morning so have had to go buy a new one I got a rubans tent but it has no groundsheet apparently it's waterproof but I'll just have to throw out a groundsheet for it.. I might head to ulswater and do the walk just cos it looks so stunning from your vid xx
So beautiful
Thanks Abbs, what a lovely 'green' video. I'm certainly inspired to get out there and enjoy the countryside. I'm very interested in the back injury you are suffering with?
One of my favourite Lakes walks. Great vidoegraphy as ever. Different angles and focal lengths give great variety. Sometimes it would be nice if details were over-dubbed later - was the tree a Maple, who was JMW Turner etc.? No need to justify taking a lighter walk when it's so rewarding! Thanks for covering this one. It's like a prompt.
The tree looks like a sycamore 👍 they can be over 500 years old. Beautiful trees 🌲
I could get used to hiking in that gorgeous area
We always camp at side farm great location
That's my cousins house at 22.37 mins. Beautiful place.
200m deep... Except for the rocks in the middle that I managed to find when I was sailing there last year!
I am new to your channel and have found your uploads inspiring. Do you have any advice on finding maps for walking these routes, or is this onw fairly straightforward?
unfortunately post offices, shops, local pubs etc are all closing down in the lakes, due to a lot of houses that are now second homes and are empty all year, they have no local trade.....sad really
It’s the same in a lot of villages in Dorset.
Yes but the patterdale post office is where Wainwright sold his first book. It's a Mecca for hikers. It is equivalent to Shakespeare's birthplace turning into a private home.!
@@miketipping1583 a bit like The Martyrs Inn closing its doors in Tolpuddle.
😪 that's the danger. I love going to the lakes but, at the same time, I think there should be more control over the number of second homes that are allowed. In the end, it destroys the community and the very things that make you want to be in the environment in the first place.
Great video.. I am trying to work our from the vegetation in what month you were out there. What month of the year was it?
Niiiicsshhh
I would appreciate your thoughts on Dartmoor
do you have any plans on doing the e4 at some point?
10:48 - channelling your inner Tommy Wiseau eh
Please note that speed boats and water skiing are forbidden on Ullswater.
I wandered lonely as a clam? Oh, cloud! I see. Sorry. 😛
The best lake is Wastwater. End. Of.
