I met Greg about 30 yrs ago in mount pleasant sc. I saw him at a gas station. Asked for his autograph. He didn’t want the attention but had us follow him and pulled over the side of a road. He gave me his autograph and was very nice to me and my family. I was about 8 then. To this day it’s my only autograph. Just wanted to say thank you Greg. As a kid it meant the world!
That's cool. Seems like a cool guy

"My beautiful wife that I'm still married to"
I don't know why I liked this so much... What a nice guy.
Still being married to the same wife for more than a few years is a rare thing now.
I was married to the same beautiful wife for 62 years. Till death did us part.
@World Traveler I remember meeting Hulk at a vintage car show room, I think in St Pete, where he bought a late 50's Dodge.
As for the marriage, I was lucky. I met my perfect dream and we did everything together. Share your dreams, your hobbies, and learn to forgive.
Her name was Dollie. People called her Dolly Parton. She was from a poor country family, never wasted money, yet dressed to attract attention.
@World Traveler Good luck as you travel your world.
God bless you, sir.

I've never seen an interview of his like this, thoughtful before he spoke about others and chose his words well. There's so many of these wrestlers I wish I could of seen more of, before WWF came along in western Canada our wrestling was limited on what we could watch
He’s scammed hundreds of interviewers out of paid in front cash by not showing up. He’s notorious for his. This guy is anything g but classy and was a tired dinosaur in the ring past 85.
I met him at a Ace Frehley concert in NYC, and I went up to him and said, how you doing Champ? He was all smiles when I said that. He gave me a handshake and this guy is built like a tank. To me, he is one of the best IC champs ever
This is what the wrestling needs now. Guys like Greg Valentine. Seriously underrated by the guys today. This guy should be teaching wrestlers
AEW should give him a job
Agreed. Valentine is very underrated. He had a great IC run and made a lot of money and did so as the US champ in Crocket too.
He’s from the era where people actually wrestled, & weren’t called entertainers because they actually wrestled.

Or when Hogan called the superdome the silver dome. I guess they struggle with where they are at the moment lol.
They BS a lot too. Their stories change many times.

I could listen to Greg talk wrestling all damn day. He's got credibility and always tells interesting stories.
You are right. And he didn't have a massive ego. He had no problem doing what was asked... win or lose. (As long as he was paid... lol)
I've come to the conclusion that wrestlers of that era have the best stories. Since for such a long time it was practically a Wild West sort of atmosphere.
Put down phone, go outside

Yeah, he seems pretty legit, and enjoys discussing all this stuff.
I worked in Tyrone Mall in St Pete years ago & would see Greg with his granddaughter there & would talk with him while she ran amuck in a store. Enjoyed it because he’s real people, and treats others that way.
Used to go there when there wasn't a mall. Just Sears. They built the mall onto the Sears store. 😁
Whatever opinions fans had about "The Hammer," one thing was for certain, he helped put fans in the seats back in the day.
Define “back in the day”? I remember mid-80’s I found him incredibly boring. He always looked like he didn’t want to be there.
@@shanedenmark5536 but a lot of people loved to hate him. He was a very big draw, back in the 80s.

@@BigBass-xf5yi For some reason, I mostly liked heel wrestlers. Greg "The Hammer" Valentine was one of my all time favorite wrestlers. I have fond memories of his classic feud matches with Hulk Hogan and Tito Santana.
Not a nicer guy? He refused jobs lol
I think he's also a professional chef. Read it in a 1975 wrestling magazine many decades ago. Do you know??
I hated his cabbage patch face.
Greg seems so genuine and truthful. I hope he enjoys a very healthy and long life!
You know a territory-era wrestler when he refers to the WWF as "New York" and GCW as "Atlanta." Love it.
Yeah, Yankee crap and Southern good stuff.
The old school territory guys are the best wrestlers and always have the best stories.
The "Hammer" was right, I respected the Road Warriors, but like "The Hammer" said, you couldn't have them wrestle for extended periods of time because of their limited amount of wrestling moves. Overall, I preferred WWF over the other wrestling territories, but I liked wrestling better when they had the territories. I have almost ignored wrestling once everything merged into one WWE.
Those were the days and they are sadly long gone
WWF and WCW have always been referred to by those respective towns
35 years ago I was 12. Valentine as a heel was awesome. Legend.
My mother sat next to Greg on a flight to Seattle and said he was the nicest man and nothing like on tv lol
The hammer is old school, no BS.

He is the master of the figure four leg lock. Great guy!
In the world of Professional Wrestling, Greg Valentine is a National Treasure. A Class Act! No vindictiveness, no animus, Just a Class Act!
The Hammer was so underrated. Such a solid wrestler and able to sell creative story lines. Easily in my top 10 of all time.
I met Greg Valentine at Newark airport in 83..via Peoples Express. Those were great times. I think he mentioned he was wrestling in two cities in one day. Jesus!
i was 16 ...in Golds Gym working out.........In walked in was Greg and the Iron Sheek.............I couldn't believe it.....Good memories
I met Greg at a small gym in North Carolina, mick foley and the freebirds was there. This guy is a class act.Hammer Hammer Hammer!
What a humble laidback dude.
Valentine was a glue guy. With all the gimmicks and such the WWF needed wrestlers who could wrestle to counter balance the gimmicks and create matches people would want to see more of. He was one of the best at that.
Valentine was always cool in my eyes. Never a wow factor but just the definition of a wrestler.
Greg Valentine, I was working airport security in the 90s after I got out the Corp. I saw a lot of wrestlers come through RDU. I turned to one of my coworkers and said there's Greg Valentine. He over heard me say his name and turned and shook my hand. That's when I would say I started liking the heels better in wrestling than the faces.
They were usually the nicest one 😂
Greg seems like the nicest most down to earth no ego human being. What a great guy. Best to you man.
Valentine has one hell of an memory. He had a long career and he remember almost everything even timelines💯💯
God bless you Hammer that your still married. That’s the key to true happiness in life, having a partner in life and a family. Class act you are Greg.

I remember seeing Greg in Nova Scotia around 81-82 as a kid. He's the only guy I remembered all these years since.
It's nice to see a veteran wrestler who isn't completely bitter and hateful towards most everyone they worked with. Hearing him say how he's still good friends with a lot of the guys is very cool. He seems like a humble guy who just did his best to get along with everyone.
Such a laid back storyteller. Could listen to him all day.
Greg Valentine and wrestlers of that era are needed more than ever now they have such great wrestling credibility and know how to sell.
Great memories watching the Hammer in the late 70's - late 80's. He was a dedicated wrestler and had excellent matches.
Mr. Valentine, a long time ago I worked as a security guard at The Calgary Olympic Saddledome. I was passing by in the concourse, and you smiled and said a big Hi to me, and I walked right by without returning your greeting, thinking that you were greeting someone else. I'm sorry if that was a misunderstanding. Cheers to you, my friend!
man greg valentine seems like hes going to live forever. he seemed super old in the 80s when i was a child.
Greg Valentine wasn't the wrestler you wanted to see, he was the wrestler you needed to see.....Just so solid in the ring. You couldn't ask for a better all around, Jack of all Trades type. To this day, nobody can make an elbow drop look as good as 'the Hammer'
Greg was a true old school shoot wrestler, as was his Father the great Johnny Valentine. Love this guy!

I really hope Greg is in good health and stays around with us for years to come. This guy was always a heel, but back when I was just a little kid he was one of my favorite guys to watch on WWWF in late 1970s and early 1980s. Absolutely the best childhood memories I have
I was 10 in 79
And watched all these guys
Every Saturday
I can’t remember what I ate for breakfast. This guy is a senior, wrestled forever and still remembers when things went down 40 years ago. Impressive
Apparently he stayed away from parties, hard drugs and steroids. Drugs kills brain cells and this proves it as his contemporaries are either dead or have debilitating illnesses.
Greg the hammer Valentine looks like a real sincere guy 👏 . I use to do his moves when I was a kid and kept a toy wrestler that I found on the street. My parents were poor and only purchased clothes from second hand store or the bins in Alexander Department store. I would of like to thank this guy in person.
Hogan is a really cool guy in person.. met him several times and he was always nice
That’s not what a lot of people have said. Hard to know what someone’s really like from a brief meeting
Met him in his Orlando shop. Was first class. Easy going.
@TheVolourn Hogan was for himself for sure, but some people tried to help others out of good nature whereas Hogan was not a team player because he always wanted his way, little compromise, sneaky tactics, no honour in that if you know what it's worth
This man needs propers for keeping a marriage alive for 50 years in the wrestling industry.

He's now one of my favorite wrestlers. Was never a fan before I knew this.
It's like droz, he's just a good dude. D lo brown broke his neck and paralyzed him (droz dorsnt feel this way. He says it was his mistake.). And the very first thing he could say to anyone was to d lo to not feel bad. They're friends to this day. Thibk about that for a second.

What a good dude ⭐️ I’m 58 and these were my days 💪🏼Greg talks highly of everyone 💎class and he’s still here !
One I agree with 100% is that Greg can wrestle. He was a good worker man
Very underrated wrestler and his memories/stories seem really crisp/clear for the amount of time he has wrestled.
Greg is an awesome guy! He comes into my step dads shop often. He will talk wrestling all day long if you will listen.
It’s amazing how these guys can recall the town or city 40yrs ago like it was yesterday
I was working security at the Plaza hotel and casino in Vegas in 2002 and 2003. They had a wrestling get together at the hotel. Greg and his wife were coming in the front doors where I was working, he looked at me and I said The Hammer, he just smiled and kept on walking.
Man, I was a wrestling fan back in the 80's when I was a kid. Seeing these guys now as just people talking about their job is wild. It's sad how many of them are absolute wrecks from everything they put themselves through. Not to mention the ones who died from the physical punishment combined with the crazy life that came with wrestling back then.
We can never go back to this Golden Era
Mr Valentine thank you for the beautiful memory of my childhood in the Netherlands.
Man, Greg was my guy. From my perspective he was low key compared to all the other personalities and I really gravitated to that.
I could listen to Greg for hours he has a lot of stories to tell...great story teller 👍
I used to have a Greg "The Hammer" Valentine action figure when I was a kid
I miss the early wwf days, these guys were the greatest, Greg and the hart foundation were the best
Hammer is/was a fantastic heel, so to realize he is really a kind person, I have a lot of respect. True professional and good guy.
He reminds me of Mickey Rourke in the movie The Wrestler
We met Greg Valentine after a match, a long time ago. He was so nice and talked to us for a long time.
Greg was always a favorite of mine, even as a kid when I believed in kayfabe, he was a heel but I loved him. He wasn't huge but he was damn tough and that's what I liked about him. He was a very good wrestler and for me, he was one of the most believable. He was just a hard hitting tough guy. I seen him years later at an indepent show in Dayton Ohio and as he walked through the isle way I stuck my hand out and he high fived me. That made my night. The Hammer is the best! He seems like such a humble class act guy and a straight shooter who doesn't bury everyone. Thank you so much for all the amazing wrestling memories Greg, you were one of the few who made me believe. Bless you Greg!

I remember watching Greg's dad, Johnny Valentine, wrestle on 'Ray Fabiani's Mat Time', which aired on Saturday mornings in Philly. Johnny had the same shock of platinum hair. Always gave a good effort.

Hammer was my childhood hero. A heal with a big heart! Looking good at @71!
I loved The Dream Team. When I think of the WWF in the 80s on Tuesday nights, Dream Team is the first that comes to mind!
Grew up in the 80s obsessed with wrestling. Always liked The Hammer. He wasn't flashy and never did flips off the ropes like they do today. Always viewed him as a "tough guy" who could wrestle for 45 minutes and and never get tired. Always liked his matches with Piper and Garvin. Had some good ones with Hogan too.
And Backlund
I met Greg in 1983/84 at my hometown high school. I was 12/13 and he came out of the gym locker room doors after a WWF event in the school gym. His Cadillac was pulled up to the door and he opened his trunk and (I swear) he had a stack of white towels (which he always wore around his neck and under his robe) neatly folded in a pile about 3 feet tall. It was kinda surreal. He had Wendy Richter with him as well (she was gorgeous). The two of them got in the Caddy and drove across the street to a corner gas station/store. We followed them over and they gassed up and purchsed a 6 pack of brew and hit the road. He was a bit standoff-ish but polite. I also met Bob Backlund that night - he was still WWF Champ and about to lose the title to the Iron Sheik one weel later in Madison Square Garden. I loved wrestling back then.
Greg. You wrestled my 2nd cousin Pedro Morales when I was a kid. 2 ass kickers. From a Bronx guy to you. Cheers brother.
