So basically heavy metal was created at a metal factory by a piece of ... heavy metal. Man, that's so meta ...
So meta...l.
Hahahahaha
Ahem... it was FORGED...
It's like a bacon to bacon space time continuum.
Brutal
On the eighth day Tony Iommi created metal.
Iron Hammer 👍🏻🤘🏻
Iron Hammer 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
And God pissed himself
Coolest fucking comment I’ve seen all day!
No shit.....the riffmaster of all FUCKING time!
Seriously, I have nothing but respect for this man. He is one of the inventors of heavy metal, one of the most influential artists, yet still remains extremely down to earth. Indeed one of the Metal Gods.
I was writing exactly the same and saw your comment. 100% true, a great role model for young musicians and a big inspiration for all of us who grew up with his music and/or his disciple's.
Tony Iommis actual personality is INTJ also known as the master mind
That's just his personality, down to earth Brummie from Italian heritage fame never turned him into an asshole...
He is in the center of the Mount Rushmore of metal
you'll enjoy his biography if you've not yet read it. crazy shit. fine guitarist.
Seeing his cross necklace reminds me of a story I heard where a satanic cult wanted sabbath to play at their gathering at the Stonehenge and sabbath turned it down so the cult apparently put a curse on them and the band got superstitious to the point where ozzy’s Dad made metal crosses for all the band members and to this day they wear those crosses as much as they can
no shit, I'd only ever heard the half of that about Ozzy's Dad making those, never heard the why he made em.
Thanks 🤘
@@mitch5699 Some deep trivia right there!
@@stemtosternms4438 yep, pretty deep indeed, you'd think in almost 50 years you would have heard em all, guess not.
If my memory serves me correctly one of the members don't have their originals and it might be Ozzy.
@@kristophertibbets5986 I think your right about about Ozz's original
crosss . I thought for some really strange reason u meant Ozzy's Original finger tips that were lost , that kids is why we shouldn't drink like 25 year old Ozzy .My bad , I'm better today. Forgive me.
I work in a guitar shop and one day a guy was in the acoustic guitar room doing a great rendition of Foo Fighters Everlong. He was facing the other way. I said " hey man , thats sounds ace, do you need a hand?" , Regular stuff i say to everyone. Dude turns around and has his index finger as a nub , his middle at the lowest knuckle and his ring finger off at the tip and pinky full. WHOA!!! I said "dude ! That is AMAZING! You're a champion!! He kept playing and he was making it work , lots of barring and whatnot.
THEN!
Another guy comes in to the shop, has ONE ARM! I didn't know what to think. He asked to try a guitar and i said ," no problem man , i'll grab a strat , plug you in." He asks , " Can i get a strap?" . I go grab a strap , and dude is AMAZING! He uses his arm nub to bar chords and mute strings and only a slight tuning variation.
Moral... IF YOU WANT IT , YOU CAN DO IT! People are awesome!
Awesome!!
What's cool is actually Tony had to play differently than people at the time because the prosthetic he had was pretty shitty and because of that his guitar's sound was changed forever
yep some are killer, some are dicks .
Oh........ Always thought ozzy bit them off
😂
lol
Lololololololol!!!!!!!
Well... He's capable.
that was charlie
This legend has such a deep voice, he can play bass with his mouth.
This amazing man is the reason my son picked up a guitar and now he builds beautiful custom guitars!
Proud Metal Mom 🤘
so awesome 🤘
What a fucking god. Legend of a man.
Charlotte Vine amen.
hahahahahahhaha wow, dude, you're providing quality entertainment for me.
Charlotte Vine, He's a Metal God! ;)
Charlotte Vine 1000% agree and would not change a single comma of what you just said.
P.S. do ignore the hermit-like gynophobiac population that lurks around the CZcams comment section.
KIlll the blasphemy you bitch!
6:03 FINGER STORY
Thank you so much
he finger blasted my mum
Wat
This guy created metal but is so humble about it. If you listen to any metal you must show respect to this man.
I'm sure Tony has told this story hundreds of times, but he tells it with such sincerity. He obviously realizes the huge impact it had on him and thankfully, for us Sabbath freaks.
How is he so humble and nice? I saw a Gene Simmons interview once and he was like the exact opposite of Tony.
Gene Simmons is a fucking prick
Buttman we need more superheroes like you buttman lol
"Gold-coloured shit" indeed.
Mohammed Kortam It's called brittish manners as opposed to american pretenciousness.
Gene don't care about nothing but cash ....very good business man..
Tony is such a gentle, wise, witty, insanely creative genius, just a walking, talking, riffing astonishing miracle. His story is such an inspiration to anyone overcoming and transcending a handicap through sheer guts, determination and 'bottle'.
Can't imagine all the stories this man could tell. A legend and inspiration for generations of (heavy) music. He and Black Sabbath will live forever
watch the talk with rick wakeman, some good stories there
50 years in Black Sabbath. He's got enough stories to fill a big bible.
Randy K. Read his book it’s packed to the brim with stories from Sabbath.
8:05 "that's how things are, you never know what's around the corner."
Mr Iommi says it with a certain amount of experience to it. So much respect to this man.
forget about Tony Iommi's musical contributions for a sec, he is such an upstanding bloke, he could have just easily been a doctor, a lawyer or a prime minister.
good on you sir! and thanks for carrying Sabbath when nobody would (80's-90's)
very well put, also I loved the Gillan/Dio era as much as any of it. the early 80's were definitely a strange time in metal.
Tony is awesome. He fell off the horse several times and he kept getting back on where most would have quit. I am glad he continued to play. Thanks Toni!
So nice to hear a rock legend that knows how to interview. Notice it’s not laced with f-bombs that are knowingly offensive to many . He comes across as a decent and classy man.
Mark who gives a fuck, fuck bombs are great
He was one of the only rock stars that I have never once heard swear.
he doesn't need to come across as one, he is one!
,.... OK, you meant curse, didn't you!? BERNIE GERMANY 😊
One of the greatest guitarists of all time. Of any genre. To be able to lose the tips of two of your fingers, being told by doctors you won't be playing again, to becoming one of the founding members of Black Sabbath, the band that defined an entire genre. Truly inspirational.
I was there! Absolutely incredible being just a few feet away from such a true legend
Tony iom the best he lost his finger tips. And he is the best riff. And lead guitarist ever. Sod Steve vie. Iomi is the god of rock brilliant fu.. ING ace
So we can all thank Tony for light gauge strings in guitar holy shit. He truly innovatived guitar
Not only does he act humble the entire time but his voice is so calming & he takes the time to think before he says anything . It seems a bit weird how he is so mellow yet put a guitar in his hands & the man creates a whole genre of the heaviest music. & as a guitar player i have to admit that the guitar pickups w/his name on them are some of the best passive humbuckers you can get your hands on ( remember to boost up your pots to get the most out of them ). TY Mr. Iommi for all the great music you've given & continue to give the world . Great video TY for posting
Every time I see grandpa Tony I wanna give him a hug to thank him for inspiring me to like metal and guitar. LEGEND.
Tony Iommi is the greatest guitarist of all time. He created a fucking genre of music. Who else can say that. His riffs inspired of course heavy metal and many more sub genres of metal. Doom, thrash, stoner etc. Many other guitarist would take huge inspiration from Tony. Great example. Guns N Roses riff for Paradise City being identical to Zero the Heroes riff. The sound that Tony created has also had a huge influence on the grunge sound believe or not from the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath album.
I have met Tony and he is very shy and humble but very polite and friendly. The man is a legend.
I met Tony in the 70s and he really is a nice bloke
Tony is one of my favorite musicians as a person. Beyond humble. Some of the best riffs ever written. He started an entire genre of music that webbed into countless other subgenres.
I could listen to Tony talk about music and life all day long.
Not only a whole genre of music he created, but a whole new range of string gauges - 0.08 and 0.09 would not exist without him.
Tony Iommi? That’s a weird way of spelling god
Dr. Cheeki Breeki i v danke Indeed
It's blasphemy...that's all.
Yeah, it's bizarre how people spell things.
It's the only way
So is Randy Rhoads.
What an absolute gentleman! Mr. Iommi sir, if you read this, I want you to know, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have picked up a guitar. Thank you sir!
I hope he knows how many lives he has saved through his music. Literally! Your playing and Geezer's lyrics are totally life-affirming. Thanks for what you have meant to me through my life.
Such a quiet unassuming man, heading one of the loudest bands in history... great guy!
black sabbath is my music influence that's why my daughter's name is Kendra Iommi
For a man who created so much heavy and confronting music, he has a very calm, welcoming and soothing demeanour and presence. The older he gets the cooler he gets. Incredible musician.
Beutiful scene, in the beginning as he sat down and the rest of the room sat down as well it was like: "okay my children, sit down now, I have to tell you a story"
Iommi's mom just created metal
Twas the woman who didn't turn up for her shift that day, can also put a claim in for that crown
In 21%
He's like the Christopher Lee or Ian Mckellen of Metal . He's been around and seen and did alot of things . Lots of interesting stories to tell . Literally must have been an honer to interview him . If I interviewed him . I would be dripping sweat from being so nervous . Its like a one in time thing to do.
It was truly an honor!
An apt comparison. I could see Iommi playing either wizard in LotR. New head canon APPROVED
@@gurugoat8298 factsssss lol I need a Metal musician LOTR movie now 🤣
Every time I hear his peaceful voice my heart fills with joy. Seriously, I could listen to this and calm myself down. Tony, you are the best person I could've ever discovered. You and Geezer and Ozzy and Bill are my masters. I just adore you all. I'm so happy I can live when you walk the Earth!
Have some wonderful Christmas! And a happy, happy new year! Thank you for the heavy metal!
Absolute legend what a humble man
I lost 2 of my finger tips hitching a trailer to my truck on a construction site, I use 2 FT-1 Finger Protectors.
Tony is my inspiration.
Makes me wanna be extra careful hitching the landscaping trailer everyday for the company I work for
We blame your mother for Metal. And we thank her! For those about to rock, we salute her! :D
The interviewer is spot on 👍 knows his stuff and gives Tony the space to expand his answers 👏 great video 👍
Thank you! They say never read the comments. I'm extremely appreciative of this one.
Tony Iommi has such soft speech, he should do ASMR. That would be perfect
No distortion riff tutorial asmr
Wow. Finally something awesome on CZcams. Thank you Loudwire :)
Such a gentleman. A real pleasure to hear him tell his story. How dare I give up on anything after hearing that.
You my man are a fookin legend, i remember listening to black sabbath early 80s ,and when i play the tunes nowadays it takes me right back, god bless you x
Very cool man. Great personality, and really positive vibrations radiate from him. Living legend!
True gentleman and polite. Can you imagine what it's like to have to relive this same story every interview? Probably told it 1000 times and still gets emotional
audience is so quiet!! i would be so excited
Glad I learned music on my own too... Thank u father of metal...respect
Thank you so much Mr. Iommi for persevering through everything in order to help Black Sabbath create the most inspirational music ever...
Can't help thinking about Randy and what if.
Crushed af still today.
RIP🤘RR
He failed to mention that he joined Jethro Tull for very briefly in December 1968, rehearsing for one week with the band and playing about five consecutive gigs during the band's first tour of the UK, one of which was televised. He then left to focus on his own band, Earth, later to be renamed Black Sabbath. His brief time in Jethro Tull helped him get the much needed connections with the music industry and ultimately helped him get a record deal for Black Sabbath.
Eli Malinsky correct, Ozzy’s autobiography mentions this, a great read
Interesting interview. New territory for me, I haven't followed Tony as much as some of the other players. For me personally, my take away is it's so amazing how tragedy in life, and we've all experienced some tragedy, ...leads to the creation of something profound and amazing. What a story!
He invented light gauge strings as well?!?!?!
Iommi is and always the best!! Nobody better period
He's of Sicilian descent. Tony is badass.
damn how i love this man
Great musician and down to earth man.
Awesome interview!
Wow. That's all I can say. Wow, what an amazing man!
He must have told the story of his fingers so many times, but it's always interesting and relevant.
8:02 arguably the worst fake laugh I've ever seen in my entire life, look at how his facial expressions change in seconds.
Good catch, dude. That was kinda creepy when I went back and watched. When I first saw your comment, I assumed it was in reference to Tony, but no.... Other dude is the sociopath.
I was finding a comment related to that and I did, let's celebrate
He’s probably nervous . Would you be calmer sitting next to Iommi ?
I think it was genuine. He just quickly stopped himself to hear what the legendary man next to him was saying.
It’s not that bad you koo koo clock
Beautiful story. Django is inspiration for us all, and so is Tony.
He is really a genius his riffs in the first recordings is great and wonderful I mean black, paranoid, master of reality and huge savotage!
This man is a awesome legend
*A legend*
One of the most respected person in metal, one of my favorite. Tony Iommi...
I love your guys' videos!
God I can listen to Tony all day happy I got to see Black Sabbath twice
Toni always hides his decapitated fingers. He should not be so self conscious about it. Those fingers made him a huge success. He should wave them with pride.
To be fair some people would be disturbed by it
Especially kids
Hi Tony I love ❤️ your music.
Seems like a real gentle nice chap
Really a humble, down to earth kind of guy. I've seen Tony in several interviews and he always presents himself in this manner. Makes one respect him even more. I never realized he was an innovator in other ways than actual music performance. Home made finger prostheses, sole inspiration for light gauge guitar strings. I knew he had a labour type accident that severed his fingertips, but I didn't know about this other stuff. What a great example of triumphing over tragedy! And yet after all Tony and Black Sabbath have done for music, I still wonder what would have been if Tony had avoided that accident. Would there have been Black Sabbath, or would Tony have rivalled future heroes like Eddie Van Halen or Malmsteen for shredding somewhere else? I think the only fathomable alternative to history would be that he would have really shredded in Black Sabbath! Of course the RIFFS would have taken first priority! Any other alternatives would be - well - unfathomable!
Good job by the interviewer as well. Respectful, in control and relevant to the interview. OF course, were he not respectful, I would have loved to see him try and get out of that room alive! Thanks for the posts!
I just wish I could meet this man one day.
I am pretty sure you will !
28 people dont have enough respect to give credit when it's due, even if I dont like a genre of music I still recognize great talent, and love play and respect music, so I'd never give a thumbs down to such a legend as Tommi, if you dont like metal that's cool, but still respect music as a whole, everyone is entitled to theirs, I know,
I can see the guy really like and respect Tony.
Just finding this channel now! Sometimes the algorithms get it perfect.
you're my hero, tony
That man is a god🤘🏻
i love dis man
I’m proud to be from Birmingham
An Incredible human being.
