5 Things You Should Know BEFORE You Buy A Tudor Black Bay 58

- I’m not shy to admit it: I think the Tudor Black Bay 58 may well be the most perfect watch you can buy today. It has everything, style, heritage, value, reliability, and that makes finding fault with it very tricky. Although when a watch is this good, those faults, however small, can start to make themselves rather well known. Let’s take a look.

This video has convinced me that this is a terrible watch and I’m going to have to go buy one as soon as possible.
lol
LOL. I don't think I ever disliked any watch on this channel. They're either classy or gods money expensive.
Yea me too lol
😂😂😂😂Me too, buying one soon.
Me too ☺️
Before: Tudor is a Poor man's Rolex
Now: Tudor is a Smart man's Rolex
I love how the silliest gripes are used to show what an absolutely amazing watch this is. Fantastic video!
☺️that’s the point 😎
I hated the snow flake hands but over time I have grown to love it! It is one of the things that make the Tudor a Tudor.
Very much like the helium escape valve on the Omega Seamaster. Either it adds to the character or you hate it lol. Doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of in between.
When you know why they are snowflake hands (by the request of the French Navy, so they can be better seen deep under water by marine welders), you get it. It’s form following function. It’s beyond opinion on aesthetics. A tool, not a design.
@@jswede1 Didn’t know that... Thanks for posting, James. I actually much prefer the “Snowflake” to the “Mercedes”.
Exactly the same. Used to hate it and it just grew on me. Now I love it... There's not a lot of design these days that isn't borrowed and used by other watches but those hands are decidedly Tudor.
Me too. Hated it at first but now can’t get enough of it
Thanks for reminding me I need one of these in my collection. Would be a great daily wear.
It is my everyday watch . ( original)
Most people don’t know that the Tudor shield was chosen because the shield is there to protect the crown
🤯
👏 😂
Thats funny seeing as this model is based on the early submariner big crown models that dont actually have crown guards lol! 🤷♂️
@@philipharvey1939 when he says “crown” he’s referring to the rolex crown
@@avarmaukI knew what he meant. Its just my sense of humour type of reply lol. No offence meant !
I’m so glad I’m a tudor fan since the late eighties. I own a few submariners, blue and black, some chronos and i can choose between the tudor shield and the rose. So needless to say i was pretty suprised when in 2011 Tudor came with the new Chrono Heritage in grey and black dail to let everybody know they’re back. The new 58 will be a new watch in my collection, maybe black or blue. Thank you for talking about the little love of my life.
I really appriciate to you for making a high quality reviews
I love the original BB58, but every time I see a high quality video of the blue version I am reminded of what an inescapably great looking watch it is. Perfect shade of blue, supremely legible. I could afford one of these two, but haven’t reached the point where I can justify the purchase to myself. Thankfully Tudor spared me further confusion/desire by only releasing the 925 Silver version on a strap rather than a bracelet.
BTW, I agree on the dial text. Drop “Officially” and just have “Chronometer Certified.”
I love the snowflake hands. Everyone uses the Mercedes hands. I’m sick of Mercedes hands.
The snowflake hands avoid the extreme tackiness of the Mercedes hand. What is not to love.
Redbull fan?
For me, the hour hand and
thickness of turods is the reason why I don't have it yet. I'm not say that I hate the "snow flake" bot it's always looks for me as a hammer not snow flake.
@@70soul35 I agree, it's not a snowflake.
Please do the ANNOYING Rolex Daytona!
Because of your in depth knowledge & commentary I finally decided on the Tudor black bay ceramic. It's simply marvelous timepiece. Thank!
Yes it is!!! Are you enjoying it?
Great video, as always! It's something magical in what I hear while watching each detail of beautiful timepeace (or a watch). Tones of informations presented so fluidly and acceptable so I always want to get more of it. And I am getting it each time. Not only historical facts, or technical details, there is something addictive in the way those sentences are presented, The Voice!! Beautiful! There is only one thing that I miss. Wouldn't it be great if there was an audio of a presented watch? Hearing it speak for itself.
I actually love the shield. As a story, it is the shield that protects the Crown (Rolex), and I quite like that. The Rose is definitely cool too. Next watch to dissect would be an Omega Seamaster Professional.
Aaahh, the Shield that protects the Crown. I like that
That sounds fckin badass and very royalty
What a line! I Love it
I bought the bb58 original around a year ago and absolutely love it. My only gripe is the lack of adjustment in the bracelet. Otherwise I can't fault it.
I love this watch every part of it, this watch is so good that people actually put the watch in front of them to look for faults 😂😂😂, what a watch.
This is now my favourite Watchfinder video of my favourite watch in my collection. Well Done 👏🏼
I recently purchased a new Benrus Type 1 LE (yes, the Benrus brand has been revitalized by an investment group); the Type 1 was initially only issued to US military personnel, and the original iterations are highly sought after collector pieces.
The re-edition is pretty faithful to the original from a design perspective, but I think you could have a blast picking its flaws apart.
The snowflake hand is one of my favourite things on my Black Bay. I have a 79230n on black leather and khaki NATO. I absolutely love it, the geometrical shapes are very satisfying
One of the aesthetic items that pushed me to buy this watch was the coin edge. I looked at it and it thought what an understated design choice. The execution was bang on for me too. The shape of the crystal edge with that perfectly shaped radius just makes me smile when I look at it. And the rivets...well, I thought I would hate them but oddly, I'm beginning to think that I might miss them if they disappeared in an alternate universe. A couple of years ago when this watch was all the hype, I held one and it was lost on me. I'll take a SM300 and marvel at the technical achievement of that piece, but somehow this watch, the BB, just nails it. My new fav.
Another great video, I love the BB58 it’s perfect in my eyes and most importantly it’s attainable!
Your chanel is probably the best watch channel on CZcams yet.
Fun video, I love the little quips sprinkled along the way.
Hey this morning i decided to put on my BB 58 after about a week off. Glad i did!
The coin edge is what I like better about the Tudor vs the Rolex subs. Diver homages also use the harsher scalloped bezel edge which over time to me has diluted the sub mariner look for me. The Tudor doesn’t look cheap to me but actually more sophisticated.
It's also far easier to grip. People try to grip it from the top like the sub but you grip it from the side and it is far easier to use.
I agree
Wearing one right now. Was a graduation gift. First mechanical "nice" watch. Love it.
My favourite watch in my collection! It’s an easy everyday watch to wear, which looks classy with a classic look. 👌
Damn you’ve tried hard to find flaws with the BB58. My only gripe when I first got it was the faux rivets but you just don’t notice them in day to day life. Either way another great video, keep up the good work!
Agree. The only thing I’m on the fence is the faux rivets. But there’s so many pros to the watch that it becomes easier to ignore/accept the rivets.
@@avarmauk trust me you never notice them once it’s on
Why do the faux rivets bother you in the first place?
@@Mattcrafter15 because they are faux
@@avarmauk that's a description rather an explanation of why it bothers you.
My favorite channel on youtube..my gf asked me to put this on as she was going to sleep...such a win win...poetry to say the least.
What a great video. Added a smile to my face on an otherwise blue Monday morning
Picked mine up yesterday and love it! I will list my pet peeves without watching this video.
1. Micro-adjustment clasp requires a tool.
2. Fake rivets on the sides of the bracelet
3. The snowflake on the hour hand could be smaller
4. No engraving at all on the back or the clasp :( Wasted canvas
5. I realize Rolex wants to differentiate Black Bay from Submariner, but I really think the bezel could use more pronounced teeth
Whats the price of one of these ?
@@stephenstaerck1131 I think under $4000 in Western countries but 10-20% higher in Korea where I live
An update to an earlier post: . Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 version as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. But after watching some of your helpful videos, plus many others, I succumbed and I have just purchased a new BB 58 Black version in late Dec 21 from my AD at retail - there is no shortage of them in the UK these days.
I do, and still love the blue, but I have also grown to adore the warmer, more vintage appeal that the black version exudes, not to mention the slightly darker shade of steel Tudor has cleverly used to add further differentiation. Maybe owning identically-made watches with the exact same specs is crazy, but hey it's Christmas after all !
Gah! I’m so in love with this watch! Best watch of 2020, and I’m genuinely looking forward to what offerings tudor give us next!
Thank you for the Video. I Just bought mine one week ago. I love it 😍
The only thing I wish this watch had was a ceramic bezel and a version in black (without the gold tint). I would be ecstatic if Tudor released a 58 like that. I think that might be releasing one in the near future since they released a fully blacked out ceramic black bay, so maybe I should hold out for a bit longer. The value on this watch is just incredible though and happy they finally shrunk the diameter, height, and band size.
Was just looking to bite the bullet on the black one this month and I was hoping this video would make me think twice about it... but you just pushed me more into wanting it!
Just get it Josef you won’t regret it. I too got the black as I feel it is more versatile, a bloody great watch.
@@lawrenceh7182 local AD just got one in stock for me last week. Haven't gone to visit yet but I guess this is it!
@@josefsbeach Josef you need to get yourself down there and try it on dude!
I have the BB58 Black and you are right. The hands are wonderful. Anyone who doesn't like them probably doesn't own one and just likes to claim that's the reason...LOL. At least we get the rose on the crown!. great vid as always.
I have a Sinn 104 St SA ABE limited edition blue dial blue bezel and I have been kicking around selling it to buy this watch, I think your video sold me. I have Tudor BB GMT and love it, can't see why I wouldn't love this one too. Thanks for the video. Sorry I am one of the 60% lolololol and I watch your videos all the time.
As you arleady talked about Navitimer B01 (Maybe another one?) ..for the future video please talk about: Nomos Metro Update 41, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe. those three are in my list to get. I want to see some macro shots, thanks !
Love this watch. It’d be great to see the JLC Master Control Date over here! Great video, as usual : )
Man….when you said flashback and used sun tan lotion….truly loved that….that alone was a flashback for me….
Fantastic humour and accuracy as per the norm….great fun to watch.
I bought the BB58 925 as my first luxury watch last week and I’m fully in love
Great video, thank you, Watchfinder. Not crazy about the rivets. Not a dealbreaker.
I do have one and it's a genuinely great watch for the price. love the shade of blue on the dial and bezel.
Please review the Longines spirit 40mm, it's a great watch and a bargain, chronometer grade movement and puts more expensive watches to shame.
This watch it amazing. The design is beautiful. So much attention to detail. Good investment
A video on the longines heritage 1938 military would be useful as I think it's quite a unique watch with a wind up movement. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
I anxiously waiting for the BB58 with a gmt function.. will be first in line to score on one. Love my BB58...
The crystal and shield are definitely personal preferences. I kind of like the slim profile of the Sapphire and the 'boring' shield is perfect for me. The rose always was a little frilly for my taste.
As for the essay on the dial, I think it balances out the logo pretty nicely but that may just be me. I do love the snowflake as well though.
I agree. There's something to be said for a simple, clean logo design. The shield has never bothered me. And for me, the wording is a plus point. I would rather buy this than the 1926 that just says Rotor Self-Winding, which is dumb.
is it me or is the bb58 getting a lot of hate lately? people thought it was the hottest ticket, but now people are being turned off by it by the "vintage inspiration" and now this!? i love my bb58 still!
I think many are coming to the realization that it’s really a dull watch and if it weren’t for the Rolex association and the group think of every CZcamsr raving about it, the watch really falls flat against other watches in similar price range.
Man the BB58 blue is so beautiful.
It really is, but I prefer the black one myself. Black dial and bezel with gold idecies and numbers on the bezel, and that little pop of red at the 12 pip of the bezel. I'm struggling to decide between the white dial Seamaster Pro 300m and the BB58 black. Gonna be a gift to myself for my 50th, so I have a couple years to sort it out at least.
The blue bb58 is the best looking
@@Hrethgir the nice thing about Omega and Tudor is you can actually buy them. 😬
Your videos have always been amazing to watch and listen to. Can you please dissect my favorite watch, the Grand Seiko SBGM235? Thank you.
I have the original one and love it . It is my everyday watch now . I wear it in toronto . Even On the subway. It's so beautiful but not a snob rolex watch. On the other hand I can still brag about it. Lol. Thank you for your videos. They are so well done .
I really hope that review the H.Moser swiss Alps rinal upgrade watch. The watch itself is really really strange and a think could be very controversial. Nothing other than a research from watch finder would be able to explain the intention and reality of that watch.
I went with the black and gild version. It is one of my favorite watches in my collection now. Hopefully I can own a Rolex 124060 one day to compliment it.
You should do a five reasons to love the re issue of the 60's classic, rado captin cook, a modern classic (in my opinion)
My annoyance is I’ve had to have my GMT back for service twice in the 2 years I’ve owned it, and the second time Rolex sent it back broken. They finally got it fixed and still love the watch.
I have just received mine,,
I love it❤️
U r very lucky my friend
So it was you sitting behind my Evoque at the traffic lights - I wondered what you were mouthing..... :-)
Opened the vid, clicked "like", double-checked that I'm subscribed, settled back to watch the video.
I love Tolkien and laughed out loud at the reference!
Nice review
Whenever I look at the Tudor Shield- it always looks like Joker having a smile!
The rose will show up on products later in the revival... I suspect for real serious limited editions.
Now I can't unsee it🥴
Yeah I never noticed that either.
Now that’s all I see.
I also have the same watch
I love the snowflake hand because I like angles, and because it looks like a scepter. Which, unless I am gravely mistaken, fits the other Tudor motifs.
I though, oh no when I first saw your vid pop up in my feed. I'm buying the 39 BB blue for my son's 34th birthday present this month. I was considering the 41 at first, but I personally found it to be a bit too much. I'm going to tell him about it before he removes the polyimide, just in case he wants to go scope it out. I think he'll overlook all the "negative aspects" you pointed out about this watch. 😉 I was unaware of the origin of the name, now I know. Great vid, thank you. 👍
Great video, great watch !!!
Great video on a great watch. Hard to beat for the money.
Please review a GP laureato , or the brand in general. Thanks for the brilliant reviews. James.
He actually has, by comparing it to the VC overseas
Breitling Chronomat, I think a good contender for the next clip.
Love your channel, the Dutch are behind you ✌️
I own a Breitling Galactic 41 and so far I have never seen one in the wild 👍🏻
I second that choice.
Had it for about a year. I can’t see myself flipping it as I did with many others. Yes it has flaws but … I still love it to death.
As I watch this beautiful video, I feel fortunate enough to be wearing my BB58. A watch I was a bit hesitant on as I was thinking more about the omega 300m at the time. Well, I daily wear my Tudor and have grown so fond of it. The size is and the way the bracelet fit are just perfect. But speaking of the bracelet I think the only thing about this watch I find could be better are the fake rivets (surprised that wasn’t one of the topics of this video).
The only thing I think the BB58 must have, is the drilled lugs. This is a must have for a old styled watch. For me it will be perfect !
In Nov 2021 I bought the Black Bay 58 Navy Blue on the steel bracelet to compliment a range of predominantly black-dialled watches in my collection that include the classic Rolex Submariner Date 16610 that I've cherished for 19 yrs. The Tudor is a super, very well-made luxury timepiece and I appreciate its rather understated blue dial and aluminium bezel compared to the 'bling-blue' ceramic of my Omega Seamaster 300. Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. The blue really pops in daylight or in well-lit rooms and a pleasure to wear on my 7 inch wrist. Although not quite up there with the Rolex in the absolute quality stakes - but why should it when it's barely 40% of a steel Sub's retail price (if you could actually get a Sub that is !)- visit an AD and try one on. An in-house COSC certified movement, 70 hrs power reserve, staggering lume.... you won't be disappointed. Ignore the fuss about the faux rivets - you cannot see them when wearing the watch and they are designed to be a vintage-style idiosyncrasy.
I bought the black / guilt BB58 a while back. Can't fault it, no QC issues fits very well on the wrist, looks stunning, keeps good time and perceptibly quality-wise, certainly looks no worse than my Rolex and way better value. The way the colours sit together, are simply excellent.
Would love an opinion and deep dive informative review of the longines heritage 1938 military. Thanks for the great videos👍
That's funny because now that I've had one I noticed the same 4 things. I really hope Tudor releases a BB58 with the Rose instead of the shield in the future
Love the humour in the review
Let’s go really decisive and review the 2265.80.00 omega seamaster quartz !!
Battery haa.. old style clasp haa.. arguably still the best looking SM dial in existence. And yes it’s a keeper 😁👍
Snowflake hand is great, I agree. But it would be better matched with a snowflake dial, i.e. square markers instead of circles. Surprised you didn't mention the rivets on the bracelet or the lack of micro adjust on the clasp, though.
My next watch will be a Tudor. I keep teetering on the fence on whether I should get the BB58 or the GMT.
I couldn't love these vids anymore than I do
Fantastic video. Please put the Cartier santos next
Have it and love it. Only just needs to add the steel version of the BB58 bronze clasp, i will totally forget about the Sub
Hi Watchfinder! What about a video on the new accutron!!
while waiting for the new accutron to come in your hands, why not a video a the 1960 bulova accutron, so much to say on the spaceview! a real piece of history!
Such a great piece 😍
I just bought a BB 58, I love it!
For just a slightly higher price, you can opt for the GMT version which offers both a date function and a true GMT feature. While I absolutely adore the black bay series, having a date complication is something I simply cannot live without.
A great video.
4 days on the wrist and already in love. See it in person before turning down!
I wanted one of these until I saw it in person, and then I went from merely wanting it to absolutely needing it in my life. I didn't leave the store without it, and I couldn't be more pleased at my decision. Just buy one already!
Great video ! I find the crown sticks out too much on the side thats the only annoying to me, having officially certified is annoying as well and simply a case of goes without saying since it already states Chronometer which can only be stated if offically certified. hmmm I still want one.
Sorry I love my new submariner 41 LN and when I looked at the Blue Black Bay last summer I came home with a Blue Pelegos😊. So I'm not a big fan of Tudors flagship. But loved the video.
I would like to see an Armin Strorm. Preferably a gravity equal force or a tribute 1. Since you asked. :)
Totally agree on the snowflake. It’s modular and at a glance very utilitarian. It’s beauty is it’s simplicity. If you look at the dial and imagine it not being there it looks like it could be an invicta. 😂
Love the watch. Love the hands. A rose instead of a shield, less text, and a more toothy bezel would be amazing, but it's no deal breaker. I'd like to see this video done on an Omega 300, or a Rolex Air-King. Also, You should do a video on Lume. Origins, pro-con, tritium vs superluminova. That would be cool. Thanks for making awesome content!
I’d like to get one of these but the one without the bezel. Hoping early next year. But then again I see what Oris offers and I wonder if I should go that route. Also there’s something about that Rado Captain Cook that is appealing. Not sure which way to go.
Own it. i Love it. It scratched the submariner itch. Now onto Panerai, Cartier Santos Medium. Only Rolex that has my attention and always has is the explorer 2 black.
Great video, I never knew why I didn’t like Tudor’s until you mentioned the bezel and I was like “that’s it!”
Another “Annoying” (but not annoying) watch to review, the H. Moser Endeavour centre seconds because how the F do you actually read the thing?
Great channel,
