- If you’ve bought one watch, you’re likely to end up buying another. The more that’s learned, the more can be appreciated, the more fine-tuned taste becomes. The refinement of those preferences can be boiled down into five common categories that are shared across many connoisseurs of fine watches-and it just so happens that the Black Bay 58 by Tudor fits into all of them.

I am not “wealthy,” by fancy watch standards. I’ve been saving for ages. Just bought one in Lugano, Switzerland on our 20th wedding anniversary trip! Bucherer had one left that they received two days ago. It IS the perfect watch. I can’t stop looking at it. Zero flaws. Fit and finish are superb. I look forward to wearing it for the rest of my life.
what do you mean you are not wealthy by fancy watch standards?
Saw it at Basel and fell in love. I had to wait a year to get my hands on one... (heartwarming twist coming up). It gave me the buzz I'd last felt when I bought my first quality watch - a Rolex Datejust - in 1984. I still have it. I also have the original box, leather wallet, receipt and manual. That Rolex was bought at Parkhouse and Wyatt's in Southampton and the handwritten bill (£534) was signed by the salesman, Gary Cole. Skip forward 35 years and I finally got the call from Austin's in Chichester to say my BB58 had arrived. I bought it...from the very same Gary Cole. He signed my invoice. Great man and great watch enthusiast.. and a great mate.
Simon Howson-Green Great story :)
That is super cool
Great story! And as it happens I bought my dstejust just one year later, have worn it virtually everyday since, and am now looking closely at Tudor trying to make up my mind. Well see where that ends up.
Bought it in Austria, live in Sweden btw.
That is such a cool story.
@Lucky Strike well if u missed it, you're the poorer.
Please stop praising it, im trying to save up for one and dont want prices to go up. haha
Same i was in a jewellery store a week ago and had it on. Beautiful piece
R0m 4n I dont like war either!
@@tijnblub6221 what :D?
You won't regret it! It's better than most Rolex Sports models, and I own 3.
Tudor prices went up by £30-40 pound across a lot of models the other day as a matter of fact.
3 hours after i watched this video i bought a Tudor Black Bay. Thanks for your videos!
A year‘s worth of groceries or a stunning watch?
should not have clicked on that video
You're eating cheap if you only spend $64 a week on groceries
Phafanapolis not really. You can eat quite healthy food if you coolly every day. Plus, we don’t know if he eats out two weeks a month
This watch is worth getting and just replace your meals with top ramen lol
looks like someone is going to be hungry
You need to get your priorities straight if you cant differentiate between necessities and desires.
Beautiful Camera work.
this is my dream watch. too many family obligations to justify buying one, but maybe one day once I've taken care of what I need to, I can finally get one :)
By some miracle I managed to find one in store. A new addition to my watch collection and already a classic. Stunning, especially next to a black bay
“If you’ve enjoyed this video”...all of them. Your videos are stellar.
Picked up the BB58 in Switzerland a few weeks ago after admiring it since release. Couldn't be more pleased. Incredible value, beautiful to look at, and super comfortable on my wrist.
Thanks to you, got my first Swiss acquisition as a Tudor BB 58 39 mm and I couldn’t be happier. Absolutely stunning.
I can stop at any second of this video and make the screenshot my wallpaper lol
You're right - you can indeed.
Bought one last year and relishing every moment of owning it! Wears so comfortably too, it’s as if they tailored it to my own wrist in the design phase! Brilliant piece.
Tudor is untouchable in its price range! The fact that the BB58 had a waitlist says a lot about the brands appeal!
Tudor movements are so good they are used in some Breitling watches
Being a watch enthusiast, even to have the one good watch, I keep revolving around 3-4 brands all the time for that one perfect watch. Then I watch this video, and be like could there be any better watch than this? I am sold, every time I watch this video.
Picking mine up on Friday , I sold my old Tudor sub a few years ago for less than half it’s going for now so I’m due a break - going to keep hold of my old Seamaster quartz as it’s been brilliant. Great video btw
Wife: "You get a black bay, I get a black bae."
I’ve seen this video about 6 times and fell in love with the watch I decided to buy it, and I can say I am absolutely over the moon with it thank you 🙏
Agree, and own it. It’s not just the diameter it’s definitely the proportions. I heard someone say 1:4 is perfect for a watch and I agree - this is 11.6mm thick but that includes 2mm of domed crystal. The case is literally almost exactly 1:4 at 9.6x39 - 1:4.06. It’s super comfortable. It’s my daily wear and it’s quite nice.
Stunning video! I'm lucky enough to own the BB58 on a leather strap and i have to say, it truly is an amazing watch for the price range. All the proportions are spot on. And i love how the leather strap adds a vintage element to the piece. I also have a BB S&G. By owning the two you get a real sense of why the 58 is perfect.
the bb58 is a watch that isn't screaming "look at me". Its built solely with the goal of being perfect - not to draw attention. Its dimensions and design are 100% for the wearer and in my view its close to horological perfection as a tool watch.
If it really would be built with the goal of being perfect so why does it not have a ceramic bezel or proper quick bracelet adjustment? Why does Tudor not offer 904L steel same as Rolex? Rolex main objective isn’t screaming for attention but being a superlative chronometre which really goes beyond where Tudor buyers are stepping out cuz for money reasons.
Rolex is manufactured on such a great level it automatically gets recognized as a beautiful masterpiece and in the end you get what you pay for. I am not saying it is 100% worth the money and Tudor offers good price/value retention but the difference in price between being a good watch (Tudor) or an almost perfect piece (which is Rolex) are progressively higher.
Perhaps the watch a real James Bond would wear.
@@ghupft-wie-ghatscht 904L steel is good for wearing it at the beach and not needing to rinse it... But sometimes salt water is sticky so you'd rinse it off anyways. 904L and 316 steel is the same hardness. To think more nickel content in the bracelet makes it perfect is open to debate. When I go to the beach with my Rolex I still rinse it off with fresh water to eradicate the stickiness and water spots anyways.
And if this watch harkens back to the Rolex of 1958, it was better for Tudor to do aluminum rather than ceramic.
Your other two points are pretty spot on though.
Since your comment, Tudor created not a watch bezel of ceramic but rather an entire timepeice of ceramic while being METAS certified accuracy.
I got the original new black bay black, and I love it!
Just got mine in this week after hearing Watchfinder hype it up all these months. It's phenomenal. Can't recommend it enough. Thanks, Watchfinder!
What did you end up paying for it ?
@@ricdynasty just the American retail price plus tax!
Mine is on order now! So excited
The greatest watch ever I think, absolutely stunning piece of workmanship
As someone who's very lucky to be wearing one right now a concur with this video 100%!!
After a long wait to have mine order, I have been wearing mine for about a month straight. I love this watch. I have only taken it off a few times to change the strap or in favor of my gShock when I go fishing. With my BB58, Hamilton Khaki King, SKX013 and G shock my collection is complete.
BB58,absolutely perfect in every way including dimensions esthetics and price. My choice for the perfect diver.
Perfect watch. Some bang on about the snowflake hands, gold accents, different colours, rivet bracelet. I wouldn’t change a thing.
The gold accents are exactly what i love
Agreed but what would you think of a black or red crown sleeve and matching rose?Just a thought.
Mike D Give over. If I wanted one of those I’d buy one. Totally different watches. I’ve made my choice. Make yours and enjoy.
The current two logo design and straight text does not fit the look and provides a confusing design.
Problem is it a Tudor......
Got mine one year ago and it's been in my wrist every single day. Absolutely happy with it!
Currently saving money for mine. Expecting it in January
That shot from 4:40-4:54 my god 😱, amazing work
2001: A Space Odyssey.
This is THE one...thanks for reminding me why I want the 58
You sir just convinced me to buy a Tudor BlackBay .......by holiday time lol still can't wait!
I was not sold on this colour from the photos on tudors website and wasn’t fully in love with the blue one either. But I went into an AD and tried on the black and gold and honestly, knew I needed it right there
Forget Rolex, buy this instead. Priced truer to it's intrinsic value
Completely agreed. Rolex are getting slightly inflated in price these days.(coming from a Rolex owner)
@@michaelmastri651 only slightly? Even at retail price, they aren't worth it their material + work hour value compared to other watches. I finally jumped for the OP with turquoise dial last yeat, cause I loved the looks and it's a solid investment (didn't expect its 2nd hand price to go up by 50-70% in a year though). Not that I buy watches to resell, I hate those people and they further inflate the market for watch enthusiasts but it's a nice feeling that you spend that amount of money on something "material" that will actually keep its value and then some.
But I have watches around €1000 that can hold their own considering build quality and have custom decorated movements and similar or higher specs. There's a reason Rolex doesn't have display casebacks ;) One of my favourites is the Formex Essence 39. Probably one of the best watches you can get for the money, cosc certified, but an acquired taste perhaps. But well, Rolex is probably the only higher quality brand that 90% of people know and sometimes that comes in handy as a conversation piece in certain situations.
@@albibass I couldn’t agree with you more. Rolex has a certain prowess to them now and it’s driving the price up more than the actual intrinsic value of the watch. And yes, even non watch enthusiasts know what the word “Rolex” means and its association. But to your point on buying a watch that you enjoy and can hold it’s value and or increase is always a great feeling. Getting to enjoy the watch while gaining value in it at the same time is a beautiful thing. I was actually able to pick up a Rolex GMT Master ii Ref. 126710 BLRO at retail (by having good relations with many local Rolex AD) and just by purchasing the watch I’m already at essentially double it’s retail value. But I won’t be selling it anytime soon ;)
You buy a Tudor purely for the watch. You buy a Rolex for the watch, but also for the brand, and you pay a massive premium for the brand.
@@NWA_1919 Rolex is mostly brand value. Specs-wise an OP shouldn't cost more than $2000. They're average watches at best.
Absolutely love this watch, got mine a couple of weeks ago after a long 9-10 months wait!!!. Anybody wanting one should go for it and you won't be disapointed. This beauty looks even better in person!
Javier Castillo I appreciate your love of this watch but it will always be seen as the Submariners poorer sibling and so will never have any serious appeal. It is a watch for those who can’t stretch to a sub and will always be seen that way. Lovely watch though.
You are spot on sir. After a nice experience at the AD in Valencia, Spain I have spent many happy minutes staring at the dial and watching the sweep of the second hand.Even if the crown one had been the same price I would have picked the shield. It appears true to the style of the originals and every design detail is well executed.Add great accuracy, comfort and 70 hrs reserve and it could qualify as the only watch needed.
I got mine yesterday & it is a piece close to my heart. This is the perfect watch, in every sense. Subtle & class
great video, just bought one and couldn't be happier, really a fantastic timepiece.
Agreed. I own this watch along with 4 other watches, and I can't help but feel it is just perfect whenever I wear it. The BB58 is basically the spitting image of the first Rolex Submariner, the 6204.
katalysis go buy a few more from watch finder. It’s stock clearance day ;)
My wife is not impressed looking over at me with my watch two inches from my face... "...it's all about the MACROs honey!"
😂😂😂👍🏾
Since this came out , it has been my dream watch
I started watching this video on the living room TV; my lovely wife making dinner in the kitchen. "If you've bought one watch, you're likely to end up buying another." Wife laughs out. A grimace... then a grin. In all seriousness, this is one of my favorite watch video reviews.... ever. Nearly the perfect review for nearly the perfect watch.
Yes, I think it's the perfect watch and I hope to have one in my collection sooner or later
Stunningly beautiful camera work. Great review.
Since I saw this watch, I felt in love with it. Such a classy but at the same time playful design. Will be buying it next month :)
Absolutely love mine the size is perfect and the leather strap is so much comfortable than a steel bracelet
The Blackbay in Bronze on a leather, canvas, or NATO strap is my dream diver.
Perfection
This watch is just too good! Mine arrived on Monday and it has made me question why do I have other watches in my collection because I could just wear this one watch forever.
If you needed to buy just one watch this is number 1 for me. Love mine.. if youre in the market, just buy it, dont second guess
Spot on review as always. Thank you so much for doing this. Love it. And BB is pure perfection.
My first automatic watch to start my collection and I love it! This could be the start of an expensive hobby
Really? What were you coming from before this?
Watchfinder & Co UK is the best watches channel in youtube......definitely learnt a lot of history/story on the watches from here......love this channel very2 much.....
My first serious watch some 35 years ago was a Tudor. I have always loved them. This is perfect & with all the watches i have i don't need one but i want one!
After watching this and owning one, I'm convinced I need to buy a second BB58 for my other wrist!
Absolutely! Give “double time” a new meaning, huh?
You can call the one on your other wrist the BB58 GMT
Is black bay 58 made in Steal ? or it's Steanless steal ??
Yes: Perfect Watch. Great video, commentary and camera work. I prefer this design to the Submariner.
I just bought this as my first watch to start my future collection and I couldn't be any happier !
Wow I'd love to have enough money for a Tudor as my first watch lol. I'm still on a Seiko budget. Cheers mate hope you enjoy it.
Mia Shibly start saving!
I have it. It's my favorite watch...and I have more than 4 more expensive Omegas that can't touch it.
The BEST watch videos on CZcams!
I love this watch, I only have 2 watches, a 58 as my daily, and a yachtmaster 40 blue dial as my occasion watch. Love them both
Nice duo!
Respectable choices
You are my fav watch channel. Companies should pay you to even speak about their watches because the way you do converts so many people.
This is on my wish list, the non-date Rolex Submariner is escaping my budget. And the more I look the more they seem to be increasing in value...this 58 Tudor would be the perfect watch for me. Again a great review.
What an awesome camera shots,,, Tudor have it own style. Like it love it & hence already owned it!!! Great review.
One of the watches that i think i could trade my Black Bay Heritage Red with, except i really like the smile on the dial.
I picked mine up yesterday, finally got the call and definitely worth the wait!
So glad I own one, best watch I ever bought.
why not an ocean planet with ceramic bazel?
@@goodtips8973
- More expensive
- Too large for my wrist
- Personally not a big fan of arrow hands
- BB58 looks more classy imo
How many watches have you bought?
Do you still wear a 58....I'm thinking about purchasing one
@@williamstalvey6920 Me too. gonna be my present to myself in 2021.
It'd be the perfect watch if it came in the same blue variation as the full size while keeping the 39mms. That'd be amazing.
Indeed this came out :)
@@mcmickey3344 No, the new version has a blue dial. I was taking about a black dial with blue bezel combo.
Love this piece. Just have to keep grinding. One day in the future.
2 years later… Did you get it sir?
@@TrevDaDev47 nothing yet, still hustling my butt off with work. but honestly the goal is a Rolex 116900 lol with a specific number as a personal reward. still a bit away from it. A personal grail/goal.
@@RobertLynch1 I've also had my eye on the 116900, clean piece. But I prefer the sportier Subs and GMT models. Did you see this channels video of the defective 116900 from the Rolex factory? Here it is - czcams.com/video/mDyFyynEe4U/video.html
Imagine getting your hands on this mistake. I think it would be worth quite a bit.
The Black Bay is a popular choice, but I prefer the specs and look of the Pelagos LHD piece. Although I am a righty, I like the idea of the crown on the left hand side to be different and also not to dig into the hand, like the U-Boat models. The Pelagos LHD is a very comfortable and light watch. I am picking up one this week.
I am also on the waiting lists for some GMT's, a Sub and a Daytona.
Ive listened to you a thousand times, but I need to say you are a fantastic speaker! How much you know about watches, I dont know, but I love your reviews
Fantastic watch. Best ratio quality for money. Got that 3 months ago and I am very happy with it. Looks amazing and feels great on my wrist. Well done Tudor
Beautiful timepiece and love the Tudor BB design language, that is probably why I have two Tudors (Pelagos LHD and the BB Bronze) - cannot possibly buy another ;) Anyway, perfect size is not just about the case diameter but also lug-lug size.
IMO red was the color that propelled the BB line when it first came out (together with the blue, as the original 2 colors offered).
Sadly, red has been forgotten in the recent lineup.
As a collector, a red BB would be significant part of any Tudor collection followed by the black rose logo.
I opted for the BB58 in Navy Blue. Stunning watch.
Went into my AD and they had one in stock! so didn't have to wait. I have had it a couple of weeks now and I must say it is perfect, prefer it to my ceramic sub
Why do you prefer it to the sub?
I like Tudor more. For me, in Brazil, Tudor is "like a Rolex, but at a fair price".
shiran duarte Tudor is the sister company to Rolex
It’s the same in the rest of the world, that’s the point of Tudor
I’m happy to report that I own this watch. Wear it daily. One of the best watches to wear.
It’s also funny, that in every watch review, the Rolex Submariner comes up. Proves to me that the Submariner is the best watch ever made. Wait! Did you say Jamaican Navy? Serious question! Did you?
Just bought one. I've owned a two tone Sub,currently own a DateJust,a Brosnan Omega Seamaster and the BIG Omega Planet Ocean. I really, really like the Tudor!
Day by day Tudor grows more and more inside me!
BB58, Navitimer, Seamaster Aqua Terra, Airking, Sky Dweller
Imo Tudors are red hot at the moment. The lack of steel rolex means people are being "forced" to take a look at them and realising they 're actually brilliant, much cheaper and most importantly available. I think tudor will be THE watch brand of the next few years
tungstentickler I don’t understand what you mean by, “The lack of steel Rolex ...”, would you please elaborate. Thanks.
@@krokodyl1927 they're all being sent to get east because there's more profit to be made there. If your in Europe or America etc go into your nearest rolex dealer and ask to look at a steel datejust, submariner, or Daytona. They'll just laugh at you. Dealer near me has over 30 deposits for the watches above. His allocation for 2019 is 3 watches
tungstentickler IDK that. Thank you.
Literally just left an AD in Dallas and the owner mentioned he has had only 8 stainless steel submariners in the last 3 years.
tungstentickler I like the watch but sense I’d get buyers remorse a few weeks after owning one. I’ll stick with my Seamaster pro for the time being until I can afford a Rolex
Best watch I have ever owned! Mine is keeping time after three months on the wrist. Crazy accurate.
I absolutely cannot say how much I love this wonderful time piece the wait time is unfortunately quite long as I’ve inquired recently....
Yes, I had the chance to buy one but I passed on it like an idiot. Now I'm about to buy a replica of it because I simply can't get one from an AD.
@@alex_inside i found one on the same day i wanted to buy. 2 days ago :) i just called about 7 dealers in London
I am getting mine delivered today!! been waiting for 9 months!
I think you've just sold me this watch. Sorry bank balance.
Kevin Wong that’s the danger of watching this channel! He sold me on a GS Snowflake too
Can't wait until they release a BB58 in blue!
Nothing wrong with this ref., but I'm just a fan of the blue😉.
or a pepsi GMT in 29mm =)
JeoAndFriends Me too!! Although, I’m afraid they might not go back in their recent catalogue to expand the 58 line, but instead introduce all new models. 😢
I'd actually want a red one
in burgundy!!!
Have you seen the tudor black bay bronze blue bucherer edition?
I think it is a wonderful watch, and if I had the money I would order one right now. I have a list of 5-10 watches that I work towards adding to my collection, and without a doubt the BB58 is amongst them.
I’m picking mine up on Saturday from my local AD and can’t wait!!
It's a perfect watch. That is my opinion. I love Tudor.
Luckily as a chap with larger wrists I find the 41mm BB fits perfectly, I was able to buy exactly what I wanted without having to wait. Black Bay Red for me :)
I picked up my BB58 yesterday. It’s far more better than I expected.
What I think is you just did another flawless video, the camera work was incredible, it was if I had the watch in my hand under my Loop. Just amazing work. But alas no I don't want a Black Bay, but you made me think about it.
Now that I'm convinced that I want one, they're out of stock everywhere.
To true ! I orders my Black bay 58 back in early February, it arrived in the dealership last week ( almost 9 months ) it it is now on my wrist , looking nice .
To me this is the reel tool watch
Back in the days when the cost of a Rolex sub was a month wage for a an average jo . THEN it was a tool watch.
Now in my opinion a Rolex sub is a luxury item and an investment because it most likely will go up in value.
Just acquired the BB58 blue and totally love it!!
Never payed attention to Tudor brand, until I held this watch in my hands. We went to wempe on 5th ave in NYC, the guy showed me this one (it was sold and waited for a buyer to pick it up) and I fell in love. In couple days I found one available in Tourneau and bough it. Really beautiful timepiece. I own Submariner and Daytona and I thought I would never buy another watch)) but as it's been said "if you've bought one watch you are likely to end up buying another one".
It would be %100 perfect if A.) It we're in stock anywhere B.) Came in other bezel color options.
I already had three Wrolex before my wife bought me the 58' as a present. Of the three (Sub no-date, Explorer I, Explorer II) I much preferred the Explorer I and for me it was the perfect watch. But I have to say the BB58' is even better balanced, more comfortable and dare I say it more aesthetically pleasing than even the 214270, which if you own that watch you'll be very surprised by because really that is almost perfect. I really did not need another no date watch and was intending to buy the Tudor GMT but when I tried it on it was just pure magic and I knew I had to get it. In terms of finishing it's less bling, with fewer shiny surfaces, no gold and 316 steel instead of 904l. This means it's not a scratch magnet like your average Wrolex and it's solid and far better built than the last generation of aluminium Wrolex of 10 years ago. It's a winning recipe. I'm a massive fan what can I say, only the 214270 comes close!
Steel Stunners Sorry i didnt get it clearly, so the Tudor gmt was true magic when you tried it or the BB58? Im on the market for either the Tudor gmt or the Explorer 2, i just couldnt try them on yet...
Could you please tell me your experiences of the two?
Thanks

@@Supercali-fragilisti The 58' was magic. I have the Explorer II polar and much prefer it to the Tudor GMT. The build quality on the Explorer II is superior, it's super legible, has that pop of orange on the dial and has a much slimmer profile than the Tudor. The GMT is not a bad watch but the Explorer II for me is more visually refined and proportioned. The defects on the GMT for me are the misaligned 6 and 12 hour markers (take a look you'll see it) the massively thick and out of proportion case as like the other standard black bays. The Explorer II is not strictly a GMT watch, since the orange hand is supposed to be used to tell 24 hour time and not a different time zone - but you can use it for that. But don't forget the Explorer II is also a quirky watch, it's 42mm super legible and has a massively toolish aesthetic, if you want something to wear everyday for all occasions the Tudor GMT or the black Explorer II are probably more versatile. My advice would be to find a second hand dealers and try on both the black and polar Explorer II and see which one you prefer, take a little video and compare it to the Tudor GMT.
But again, if you only want one nice watch it's really hard to beat a 58' for all occasions. It's very well rounded.
Steel Stunners
Well thanks for your very detailed answer!😊
If something has a problem like a misalligned bezel or rehault or date hand in some cases it would drive me crazy so thank you for mentioning that. I think ive seen all the reviews of both watches and i had the impression that people think you can get as much content for half the price with the Tudor. I wonder why they never compare them side by side...
I like to have a date comlication on my watch although it usually ruins the simmetry a little bit, but i keep looking at my watch daily for this information so i wouldn’t consider the BB58. And i have a Hulk to cover the diver theme. TBH its my only watch since im not a collector but i would love to have a even more toolish and useful watch and i think you just made getting the Explorer a little bit more!😊👍🏻
I try to see one in person!
Thanks once again!
Cheers

Purchased a Navy Blue 58 last year. By far, the best watch I own. The 70 hr. power reserve is spot on. Accurate, colorful, comfortable, sexy watch. Very satisfied with this purchase.
