Thank you for doing this comparison. Woodpeckers makes some nice stuff, but their pricing is beyond Festool IMO (I can purchase a Festool RO125 sander for less than the AutoAngle). Rockler makes a drill guide similar to the UJK that is about the same price point, and it has a 1/2" Jacobs chuck. That would make an interesting comparison. Steve

      Cheers Steve,
And thank you for the feedback, yes Woodpeckers make really nice gear - but even with the money I spend on quality tools, I can’t justify it.
It was nice to get my hands on the drill guide and I can appreciate the engineering. But my UJK services the purpose In need in the shop.
I’ll have a look at the Rocklers out of interest.
      Cheers

I think a complete delivered price comparison, which includes VAT, shipping, and any duties, would be more realistic for any potential international buyers. Based on your previous video, this would put the Deluxe WP version at about four times the cost of the UJK version.

      Hi Mike,
The problem is working out all the variations of shipping costs and tax, it’s not so bad with a shipment to the UK, but when you consider UK to multiple states there are just to many tax variables.
So decided to give the base costs then folks can work out shipping and tax based on their circumstances.
But yes, shipping to UK plus tax is a big add on to the price.
      Cheers

Thanks for another great video Andy, I had made up my mind after the UJK video and that decision has been confirmed. The UJK is a bit more here in the states from their distributor but looks like it’s still worth it.

      Hi Kyle,
Glad I can help, I have no regrets on the UJK, the Woodpeckers is sexy, but the UJK gets the job done.
      Enjoy

Great video and comparison Andy as always.. I purchased the Rutlands R4131 when on offer at £75 (Now £120) and have never used it. It is a poor man version of both of these beauties, but as I have never used it I cannot comment if its any good. For £75 it is something nice to have just in case. 😄

      Cheers Paul,
I think that is one of the issues, unless you know you are going to need it on a regular basis - it is a big investment.
Most of us will need it now and then, so anyone of these that will cut straight is good enough.
      Cheers

What surprises me about the cost of the Woodpecker drill guide is the shipping cost. In January 2023, I had two pairs of New Balance walking boots shipped from the USA with a shipping cost of $25. I ordered them from Amazon USA as I could not find the specific item on the New Balance UK website. There was also tax of $31. The overall cost was comparable with a similar item in the UK. (The actual shipping was a remarkable process. I got regular updates and was able to track my package from Arizona, through various hubs, to a nearby courier distribution centre. That took around 36 hours, the final journey of 40 miles took another 36 hours).
I have also ordered a couple of products from Katz Moses Tools. The 3x3 Trim Router Jig and the small router table for same. In each case the shipping cost was $18. (The router jig shipped without a hitch but the router table got stuck in UK Customs for about a month).

Yes, I was really surprised when I saw the shipping costs.
It would be better to have a friend in the US to get it shipped domestic - then have them ship it out.
But it is what it is.
      Cheers

Hi great videos and good advice in the products! It’s centrotec chuck / fittings not ‘centronic’ I noticed you say that in a previous video too!

    • @TheWoodgrafter
      @TheWoodgrafter  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Thank you,
Yes I do call it Centronic - no idea why, just can’t seem to get the word centrotec into my head.
As a head up, I call it Centronic in the next video as well. I’ll try and remember for future videos.

@@TheWoodgrafter a good video idea might be adding a suitable spring to the ukj it seems a strange ommision. One of my fave videos you made was the one about the benchdogs ultra square . I bought one of those last month it is very well made and useful thanks!

Thank you for the question, just had a look at the web site, it looks the same to me

@@TheWoodgrafter….i have a Milescraft, it’s sitting on a shelf as a reminder that “cheap equals junk”. It’s the worst tool I’ve ever purchased (I’m 74, so that means I’ve bought a lot of tools)….completely unusable because of runout. I’m in Canada and recently (December) purchased the KMS Tools Magnum brand version….it appears 100% identical to the UJK model. I paid around 170 Canadian dollars and it’s worth every penny….whereas I wouldn’t give you a penny for the Milescraft….lol.
