    I had ta laugh with the rag Martin, back in 79-80 I had a school bus come in that smoked out the exhaust like crazy and it wouldn't pull we checked everything and found nothing so decided ta pull the head and found a bill of a hat where the guy set his hat in the air cleaner housing while checking the filter I guess he forgot it and it sucked it into the motor burning it. Had to share with ya.😂👍🇺🇸

    did you reuse your rocker arms, they are very scratched for new if they are,(rollers), the reason for valve clearance is that when a engine is at max power the heat stretches the valves, take the intake pipe loose at the air cleaner side and the turbo side clamps, pull that complete pipe off, then the air filter housing is very easy to manage,

    • @TruckingTogether

    • @TruckingTogether
      @TruckingTogether  Před 3 měsíci

      Not much to tune up on a isx for jakes, you have rockers with detent springs in them and solenoids. Don’t have Jake heads like older engines with pistons and seals. Usually when Jake’s don’t work it’s a rocker leaking oil or solenoid gone bad.

    Sacramento saying hello my friends I am a little late , I understand you a 100% Martin , But My friend has this 55 chev drag car and he has a Allison transmission in it and what he done he put number 2 hydraulic fluid in the transmission , they ran 10 times , then he tore the transmission down and it was like brand new and he still running it in that transmission race after race , Now on the other hand you are showing the oil that is supposed to go in that automatic transmission , this is no lie , this dude i met took number 2 hydraulic oil and stuck it in his automatic transmission a year ago or little more and that son of a gun is still shifting good and pulling good and it lowered the heat timp , I am not saying to do it. but he did it he did not care he wanted to try it and it worked 😂😂😂 In a way I kind of knew it would work, because I seen a video about 4 years ago where this dude was puting the same hydraulic fluid In his automatic dragster transmission , actually he said something and then he tried cutting it out because it was a secret I guess I do not know , but he does all of his own work to, but after 50 passes and then pulled it a part It was like new nothing was burnt in it he said nothing smelt bad , I am not saying for anybody to try this, I am saying this is what these two done 🕶. The overhead Martin that's exactly right correct and precise

    • @TruckingTogether
      @TruckingTogether  Před 2 měsíci

      This isn’t an automatic like an Allison. It’s an automated manual. There is no torque converter or clutch packs in these, it’s basically a manual transmission that’s shifted by a computer. A full automatic will use different fluid. Hydraulic oil and ATF is very similar so it should run but I’m sure there are some differences.

  • @troybachhofer3417
    @troybachhofer3417 Před 3 měsíci +1

    On a cm870 .. does the lift pump run when the engine is running? I have a miss that comes and goes. Always when it falls to an idel..goes away when you give it fuel. Chasing this problem for about a year now and cannot figure it out... any info would be helpful...

    • @TruckingTogether
      @TruckingTogether  Před 3 měsíci +2

      It’s only there to prime the system, it doesn’t run full time. The gear pump on the side of the cylinder head keeps fuel supplied when the engine is running, it’s the square cylinder looking thing that is on drivers side head right above the fuel filter. If you’re having idle issues and rough running it’s likely your timing or fueling actuators, 870,871 are not the smoothest idling engines. The actuators can be tested. The gear pump can also fail and get weak. It’s bet to do a fuel pressure test with insite.

    • @troybachhofer3417
      @troybachhofer3417 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @TruckingTogether yes I've changed fueling and timming selonids.. no change in anything... its crazy it mite go a week without it missing at idel.. and then do it at every stop sign or red light. But no miss while your on the throddel.. drivein me nuts lol...sometime miss is horrible other time it very little and sometimes smooth as baby butt...maybe gear pump can cause this..

    • @TruckingTogether
      @TruckingTogether  Před 3 měsíci +2

      It can, I would definitely check fuel pressure.

    • @TruckingTogether
      @TruckingTogether  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Are you still running the VGT turbo? If so the backpressure aka exhaust pressure sensor can cause this too, it’s the sensor that gets fed by exhaust pressure off the manifold that’s in the thermostat housing. If youve never replaced it I would as that sensor can cause poor drive ability and idle issues. Also check and clean your intake pressure sensor with carb cleaner only. They won’t throw a code sometimes.

    • @troybachhofer3417
      @troybachhofer3417 Před 3 měsíci

      @TruckingTogether I've changed that pressure sensor..turbo speed sensor..cam sensor..crank sensor..the tube that runs to Manifold from pressure sensor is free flowing.....all new fuel lines from tank to gear pump.. passed performance test multiple times..no codes. But will say cylinder imbalance... something about fuel .... can't seem to fined and air leaks.. no fuel leaks at all.. I've also checked for low voltage.. about the only thing I have not changed is the gear pump and the lift pump..I'm Installing a class 8 165g fass fuel system right now. Hopefully this will help 🙏

      I don’t think they have anything for ya, we left because they lost a ton, and I mean that, of freight, cancelled most if not all dedicated lanes and dropped per mile rates for trucks running wild. They were great at once but I wouldn’t go there now.

    Those automatic transmissions don't hold very much gear oil. I'm surprised. You should buy a 12.7 Detroit series 60 so I can learn more about them from you. lol

      Not much to them, I’m not a big Detroit fan lol. I do like the DDEC 5 14L.

      @@TruckingTogether I had an 06' 14L detroit. Bunch of EGR and that stock turbo problems. Nobody back then knew how to delete them or I would have. I've got a 2014' and 2016' gliders now with the 12.7 pre emission eld exempt now. They are ok just need a little tuning to wake them up.

      They definitely wake up with a good tune, very simple and easy engines, I’ve only had one and had no complaints. The 5s definitely were a basket case egr intact.

      I think people also forget that they sold a house in cali which is tons more expensive then where they are at now. I'm sure they have plenty to live off of with the remainder off the house. But even if not they know whats in the bank, if they needed to hit the road in this shit then I'm sure they would!
