Not a blow off valve. It is the sound a turbo makes when the exhaust turbine side has a sudden drop in pressure and is slowing down. My automatic truck will do this if I floor it and let off just before it changes gear it higher rpm’s. Blow off valves are only on gas engines with a manifold. Diesels have open unrestricted intakes
Yeah you have to floor it to make em smoke heavily.. mine is a built 6.5L Detroit she only smokes when she’s putting in work hauling heavy even then its nowhere near as much as some of these guys you see..

@290TrafficCone no you're completely wrong. This is how you achieve this sound. It's just a welded flange on the exhaust side of the turbo causing restriction of exhaust flow. When you let off the throttle it will give that flutter sound. Way more pronounced in manual transmission. (Turbina de fuente) very common in Brazil semi.
That's turbo flutter caused by back-feeding. A blow off valve just makes a short violent pssst sound as it vents the pressure. A lot of people build turbo setups and go for the fluttering sound because it sounds cool, but a effective BOV is much better for performance.
If a BOV was actually better for performance every single race car would run one, in reality pretty much no high level race car runs any valve and the ones that do like Indycar do it to limit how much boost people can run to stop cheating.

In Brazil there’s a method called “pente na turbina” and what they basically do is weld a steel plate inside the turbo which makes that noise, I don’t know about this setup but it does setup the same
This is "turbo stall" or more commonly referred to as "bark" but not to be confused with surge. It is not a bypass valve(BOV). It occurs when the drive pressure(the exhaust gas that spins the turbine) drops below that of the charged air that the compressor is driving into you're charge pipes(everything between the compressor and the cylinder head). When you get on the throttle and load the engine it creates boost buy spinning the turbo with exhaust gas, now when you let off the throttle the engine cuts fuel and the exhaust gasses driving the turbo dissapear and the air that has been compressed is now free to flow back out through the turbocharger to atmosphere. The sound is that air forcing it's way past the compressor wheel.

Diesels dont jave blow off valves people. In order for a BOV to work ypu need vacuum and diesels dont pull vacuum. The only way to get blow off valve is electronically controlled ones ment for trucks. The sound you hear is the wastegate operating
The trucks mirrors suck folded down. You can’t see a damn thing. When they are flipped up you can see better but I will say they aren’t the best mirrors around. I tow for a living. Chevy has the best tow mirrors.

The competition has options for automatic extension on the tow mirrors. The biggest pain in the butt with the flip out is you have to manually put them up and down. I tow frequently as well, and that's the biggest complaint I have about them.

I want to know what he has to sound like that. I have a 99 24v 5 speed manual with 4in. Turbo back exhaust with just a little resonator and a s&b full intake and it definitely doesn't sound like that when I let off the throttle. But I've been looking for that sound so any actual info would be much appreciated.

Not all diesels have them but some have air control valves that act as a throttle body (kinda)

It’s either got a turn buckle on it holding it open or welded shut I’m not sure but I know of the two will make it make that sound

@@jaygalloway372 that's a straight pipe exhaust, remove all boxes and if it's a turbo diesel you'll get the sound. I've done the same thing on a 2.2 Ford Ranger.
Jay Galloway you have to build boost the let off the throttle real quick and if that doesn’t work then get a turbo that makes more boost and try again

That is actually the turbine wheel barking(slowing down quickly)
