Awesome first Lok ... No rubber grip on the bottom of the camera, so when you shooting portraits, is it a little hard to hold and will the paint wear after a while? Its about the same size as a Nikon D5, which is crazy !

"Large format" for when Medium format is significantly larger, and full frame 35mm is about 60% smaller. Sounds better than "Medium-ish" or "Larger format".
Other than the format naming, just about everything else from a design and engineering perspective looks bang on other than the vertical grip.

AF was really fast for a medium format camera :)
It seems that they should have put this ”touchpad” to the right of the screen so you can change the focuspoint easy with the thumb like on the canon eos r

Isn't large format at least 4x5 inches (102x127mm)? That's nearly 9 times the area of what this camera has (43.8x32.9mm).
It's nearer to a full-frame sensor than a medium format like 6x4.5, so it's already misleading to call it medium format.

I wasn't claiming that it wasn't medium format, just that it isn't a large format and is closer to full-frame than it is to a common medium format like 6x4.5.
it's certainly crazy to call it large format, it's just a high resolution medium format

Maybe some fact about GFX,
-There is no actual size for medium format sensor (not like full frame which is must 35mm).
-for Video, any sensor bigger than super35mm, you can call it Large Format. That's what Fujifilm did here.
Most medium format is between 6x4.5" to 6x9"
Since the gfx sensor is significantly larger than 35mm i'd call it medium format. But imo large format starts when you go beyond 6x9.
I have never seen 65mm and imax movie formats called large format.

How abut cropped sensor medium format?
It's even smaller than the smallest medium format. It's just something slightly above full frame
55mm IS NOT large format.
Pretty damn large compared to full-frame or their APS-C line. It’s digital, not film, no point comparing sensor size to film size, it’s not like-for-like anymore. Just as today’s ‘Full-Frame’ cameras are as good or better than medium format film (I can imagine blood vessels popping in anger at that sacrilegious statement), and APS-C, probably even M43, can best 35mm film, so is this claimed to be the digital equivalent of Large Format. Specs are pretty impressive, final review of production units will tell. Yes, I know, film purists will cry foul and cite examples. It doesn’t matter. There is no definition of Digital Large Format, so Fuji is entitled to call this Large Format if they want to. It’s just marketing in the end, just as ‘full-frame’ is.

Looks like an amazing camera for video, but tbh the advantage of 65mm film vs 35mm film is mostly resolution. So, when you have a medium format sensor vs. a super 35mm sensor, but both output to 4K file sizes (4.5K for the Arri), I'm wondering if there is a real difference in image quality in moving up in sensor size. Traditionally the color science in digital MF cameras has been one of the defining features in the look, and based on some other reviews the Fuji does seem to have some great dynamic range and color accuracy. Maybe I'll have some projects coming up to justify the rental, it would be a treat to work with it for a week or two!

Assuming it works like film, a bigger sensor will result in more separation. Don't remember enough about it to be precise though.

Live histogram on the top is pretty useless, but it looks soooo good!

@@mattsmith1440 because its much more useful to have it in the viewfinder or in the rear display where it already exists along with every other bit of useful info... I still like it though.

Well, I take your point to an extent, but in the process of making it you hinted at the utility of having it on the top screen as well. If every other bit of useful info is already on the rear display, I can think of times where you'd not want the histogram blocking other stuff.
Let's say you want to manually fine tune focus and have a zoomed-in view on the rear screen, then it would make sense to have it on top too. In any case, this entire camera is overkill for me, so it's silly for me to be speculating on these things! Procrastination is a powerful force ;)

5:04 You only feel like you're going to drop it because you're vlogging with your other hand. If you were actually shooting the camera, your other hand would be on the lens and everything would likely feel much more stable and supported. But yeah, keep blaming the grip.

It’s not a large format. The sensor is far smaller than 4x5”

I know that it’s 100 megapixels, but will the lenses keep up to the 100 megapixels? If I put a zoom lens on a Sony A7R II, for example, it won’t use all the 42,4 megapixels. You’ll need some very sharp glass as the otus primes and some Sigma Art lenses.
Fujifilm did mention all of their GF lenses support "more than" 100MP resolution
Lok Cheung So they’re sharper than Zeiss Otus lenses, or is that not how it works? The Zeiss Otus lenses only do like 40 megapixels.
I guess so, after all those lenses has larger diameter and projecting a larger image to the sensor, thus it’s in fact not as difficult to do so than smaller lens/sensor

So, a lot smaller than the smallest of the Medium Format Film sizes, but bigger than Full Frame. Perhaps "Fuller Frame" might have been better. Although if it really rivals the 4" x 5" (and above) Large Format images then Help, as I've been zapped into an alternate reality where physics doesn't apply any more... :-)

@@JonInLondon You're right 100%, although personally while I think the image looks fantastic, it doesn't really look like 4x5 or 8x10. The "large format" thing is supposed to be in relation to 65mm cinema film etc., but it's all marketing. I think it looks beautiful, but not so different from good full frame... what people think of the look is totally subjective though, TBH.

This device is not for photographers. It's to provide machine learning to AI, advertiser's, Google, Apple, etc. There's nothing here to create art. It's all about scanning every single texture at a resolution that the human eye can't see. At this point, you have to ask "what are they looking at?"
