Lok. EVERYONE is talking about this Cameron. It is unbeatable. Full frame 6k open gate and active cooling. It’s actually unbelievable.
Honestly this is still the best all round hybrid camera in the market at this price. Now after 3.0 firmware it's even better! Good video as usual Lok!
In my opinion, you may be the most likable person on the Internet. I already have the camera you’re talking about so I didn’t even need to watch your video, but I did anyway.
I bet you people will think the autofocus "SUCKS" because you set the focusing speed slow (-3)
but in reality, people don't know/care about the settings in their cameras and just parrot misinformation.
Good Job Lok 大家加油
Nikon autofocus sucks 😂. Sony, Canon, and newly crowned Panasonic are the top three best AF systems atm 😊
This thing is a no-brainer for anyone with a cannon EF body. 1 lens adapter and it is basically an R6.
Lumix is a big love for me. Low heating, perfect IBIS... and now competitive phase detection AF. Perfect.
A lot of people are sleeping on the S5ii and S5iix. Most people snigger when I say I shoot Panny but they are incredible cameras for the money.
I missed your channel!! I don’t know why I wasn’t getting notifications for a while! Great video as always!
I am saving to buy the S5II. The video capabilities are amazing.
Thank you for this video! I had messaged you about the 20-60 kit lens on instagram and my friend bought it based on your advice. I’ll be trying it soon. Adapted several EF lenses to it and it works great for photo and video. The lens stabilization + ibis is pretty crazy.
Just got s5iix and 50, 35, 85 for ~2500 from B&H. So happy with the value the EVF and screen are both great
Really 0.0 jeez that's a good deal
wtf
I own S1H and recommended S5IIx to a media director friend as a “best value” camera for a new studio. They bought 3 with 24-100 f/4 lenses, and 1 year later there have been NO complaints or regrets - a rarity with cameras 👍 Glad to know about firmware update - will be doing that this weekend 😃
Another excellent video Lok! 👌🏻
I bought this camera and instantly went on a hike with it the very next day to make my most recent video. It's such a best and handled so well in limited light with extensive fog.
I gave away my Sony A7r3 to my son. This camera with new updates is amazing
It is nice to see you so existed. At some point, I would like to pick up a Panasonic Lumix S5 II or S5 IIX up.
Lok here with the facts! Great video mate :) Totally agree with you - I can't think of any other camera that's the same price and offers the same features :)
I have the S5IIX and it's awesome. If rolling shutter is a problem in a particular scene you can switch to APS-C and rolling shutter is much better.
Thank you for your hard work on this video 🙌🙏👏
That stabilisation looks great
I really like my S5IIX - it's my "everyday" camera that does most things really well, has a great lens selection, and is just generally very pleasant to use. I have lots of nit-picky complaints, but that's true of every camera in this price range; the S5II is still the least annoying and most fun for me. The one major downside to it is that it kinda sucks for action photography (for so many reasons that I'm gonna have to condense them into a video I think), and unfortunately there's nothing else in the L-mount to fulfill that use-case right now, so it's limiting the platform's appeal for people who shoot anything speedier. I have a Nikon setup pretty much solely for wildlife photography for this reason 😅
Love the review, great indepth information about Panasonic. My gf didn't even know Panasonic made cameras and only thought they made toothbrushes. I'll have her watch this haha
I have a S5IIx...and I love it.
Learned a lot about shooting video here. I do think this camera feels like a well priced and very versatile camera = amazing deal. I think it’s the one for me.
My mate has the S5m2 after I badgered him for years to ditch Nikon, and he’s never once regretted it.
As for me, I love my G9m2 and have no desire to go full frame.
Basically Panasonic rock!
great overview! If I didn't have Fuji X-T4 already I'd prob go with this camera. It provides great value!!
100% agree. Lok
I agree the S5IIx is underrated. If you don't have investments into Canon or Sony, and this is going to be your fist "big boy" camera, then I would seriously give Panasonic a look. I definitely prefer The S5IIx to any mirrorless camera Canon makes.
That said, the big deficit for Panasonic is lens availability. Which is why someone else might weight getting a Canon higher than Panasonic. For me though, I'm on Sony and I'll be staying there. Why? The 70-200mm f/2.8 GM II exists. There is no other lens that has the combination of: extreme image performance, size, weight, autofocus speed, autofocus accuracy. Basically I need it for literal sports shooting. Which is why competitors from Sigma and Tamron are also not viable. [Canon also does well here, but the fact that the RF 70-200mm has external zooming is just a no-no. You don't want changes to balance especially for recording video. Optically and AF speed wise though, it's also a very good lens.]
For sports it's critical to have something that can rack its entire range and have pin point accuracy throughout its entire focal range - and work in such a way that the operator has to think the least amount possible, and certainly not have to fight the system.
For other general purpose lenses whether photo or video this doesn't matter nearly as much and certainly every camera system has plenty of mid-range zooms or mid-range primes that even for sports can keep up reasonably competently. And to reiterate if you don't need extreme performance than Panasonic should be closely looked at.
Especially for those that don't need AF at all, and want to shoot vintage primes, cinema glass, the new crop of anamorphic glass (Blazar, etc) - Panasonic just delivers here. It costs a third to half less as a competing Sony or Canon camera. It has a very nice sensor, excellent color, V-Log is just easy to work with. And it allows for RAW recording over the BM Assist or Atomos line of products. It has open gate which if you want to shoot anamorphic, the others do not. With 6k, you can crop in to get either FF or s35 and still have at least 4k worth of pixels to work with. It has internal ProRes.
The irony of Panasonic finally having good AF is that they are still the best camera if you don't need AF. But then if you also do and only need general performance, they do very well. And you have access to all the L-Mount glass, which will perform perfectly on the system vs other systems that have to be reverse engineered (like Sigma... if you're a Sigma fan, then AF performance will always be better on L-Mount as compared to any other lens mount). The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 might actually be able to keep up on Panasonic cameras where they cannot on Sony specifically because they do not have access to Sony's algorithms and have to figure it out whereas on L-Mount they have all the data.
How is it under rated? I can’t find anyone to say anything bad about it.
You do know that the Sigma 24-70mm Mark 2 is coming out? Sigma said they want to match the GM2 is performance so you will like it.
@@JeffBourke That doesn't matter. The only vote that matters is dollars. If people aren't buying it because they pick some other option, meaning some other option is "better" to them, then it's underrated.
@@JeffBourke I have zero interest in any midrange zoom. Except perhaps Fujinon MK's for documentary use. But that's a far sight away from an AF zoom on a mirrorless camera.
The biggest issue is that Panasonic don’t have a camera that rivals the fx6/9 at all. I’d happy investing this system if I could use all my bits on a pro camcorder type. I use my a7c with my fx6, share lenses etc and I can monetise easily and bring a large kit to broadcast. This camera is amazing but I sold mine as i needed to consolidate my fx6 kit. Eva 2 would send me right back into Panasonic without a shadow of a doubt. Till then I’ll stay Sony. That 70-200 gm is banging mind.
Yes one of the Best hybrids out there. The S5ii is really a classic release. Like the GH5 was.
S5ii is awesome I have it and I love it
is the auto focus better then on the G9II ? As i keep having issues with the focus on that so i am considering going to Canon R5 but this could be an option.
My buddy has one and i actually do love that camera but i don't do much video. The lens selection kinda bums me out on it too. I'm always like 3 generations behind with whatever i shoot anyways. I'll keep my a7Riii's until they crap out and probably look for more once they do.
Hey Lok, what lens were you using on the S5iix when filming in front of the window?
That’s 35mm f/1.8 (just realised I’ve forgot to put that in description)
It's all down to marketing. Sony is so much better in engaging influencers, and they have a clear target consumer segment for each product. If a person not familiar with cameras searches for a vlogging cameras, most likely they will go to a ZV-E1 or an a7C2, even though the S5II may be better than either of them at a similar price. To make things worse many people are still focusing on megapixel count, even though it shouldn't be relevant when it's 20M+. Panasonic needs to have a clearer idea on how to position its products.
💯
Fantastic camera
I love 20-60mm lens too.
Would happily swap if i could trade my sony gear 1-1
S5ii or S5iiX which one do you recommend Lok?
I wonder if the cooling fan in s5iix can cause micro shake and audible noise
I could not find a way to set IS separately for photo and video on this camera. I want IS always turned off for photo, and always on for video. The second issue I found is that it slows down considerably when shooting in burst mode with the flash, from about 10fps to 5-6 fps. There is no technical reason for that when shooting all manual. Other cameras, like Fuji H2s for example, don't do it. Other than the above, it is pretty good camera.
The IBIS/FOCUS updates makes the S5II/S5IIX the best camera in the market for 2024 imo! The best IBIS in any camera right now!
I heard that Rolling shutter effect is gone at IS high setting with 1.4 x crop.
Hi there - I saw Tony Northrup saying the auto exposure on the S5II was terrible when he moved from a lighter part of his house to a darker part of his house whilst vlogging and filming his own face. Have you noticed problems with the autoexposure ever? Only real downside I've seen in a review vid so far.
Depends on the metering mode a lot
Probably only happens when you record in MAXIMUM TONEH
I honestly do think that this is the best all-around body in 2024 at the A7iii/Z6ii price-range.
Lok I was thinking the same about the lumix, it deserves more attention, btw, what would you think if a change all my Sony a7iv ecosystem for this s5iix, I do wedding photography and videography.
Are there other Panasonic cameras that have equally good autofocus or is it just the S5II?
For now only S5II, S5IIx and G9II
@@TheLokCheung Cool. Thanks, Lok!
No clue why I'm not getting notifications 😞 was even looking for lumix content and it didn't show up
The S5ii/x is a stand out camera. What you get for the price alone makes it better then the Sony. The AF is as qucik the IBA is better even the L mount S lens are made for filming. Lumix cameras are made for those who like being behind the camera. Sony and Conon are for those who want to be volggers who want to be CZcamsrs. 😅😅😅
I saw another CZcamsr claim the new "high" E-stabilization mode crops 1.4x, but somehow still retains 6K resolution (and it looks like it still says "6K" on the screen at 11:06 in this video), but I don't see how that would even be physically possible. The sensor is 6000 pixels wide, so a 1.4x crop would only give you roughly 4.3K.
Someone explain.
It outputs a 6k file, doesn't mean it captured 6k worth of resolution.
Pretty similar to the ZVE1 and it 35% cropped dynamic active stabilization, which still outputs a 4k file but is from a 3.1k area.
@@Wildridefilmsohhhj, upscaling like those cheap "4k" dashcams!
For me best camera on market. I only need just one more firmware to unlock CROP and IS High in PHOTO MODE so i can have extra reach with 1 lens to go... Rest is just like want and need from camera. So mouch buttons, great AF, PQ is best in class, video is just GREAT! For pictures just need that crop to have all i need...
Maybe S1 successor will be high megapixel sensor with crop option.
Came to this video because the S9 had the same AF, but Manny Ortiz says the S9 AF is still a bit hit and miss.
Well the S9 is still a pre-release camera, I'd give it a benefit of doubt until final firmware.
I really dont know why open gate is not standard. It does not make any sens to make video 16.9 if you got a 3.2 or a 4.3 sensor why most sensors are 3.2 instead of 4.3 is questionable as well as a 4.3 sensor is better and more versatile.
I'm really dubious about anyone's claims of Auto Focus superiority at this point. My S5 Mk1 has been an awesome camera for years, and I'm mostly a manual focus monkey, but in the rare instances when I've used auto it's been fine. Then at work we gotten sony FX3's and after years of hearing how superior the Sony AF is I find it about as reliable/unreliable in a real world situation. For both cams it's a backup when you have no other choice but I wouldn't count on it if you have any other options. The s5 2x sounds cool but I wouldn't get my hopes up on a shiny new AF solving all my problems.
but it's not Pdaf above 60fps in 1080 and 4K. 4k 60p is cropped.
The S5ii/x is a stand out camera. What you get for the price alone makes it better then the Sony. The AF is as qucik the IBA is better even the L mount S lens are made for filming.
I hope Sony makes open gate cameras. It’d make my work easier. This camera is good but I like the Sony ecosystem too much to switch.
I need one
If you want a Leica but don't have the money (yet), Panasonic camera basically is almost identical.
This is the hints of Releasing Several cameras from Panasonic in this month! :D
Panasonic re , of course, the best. The only problem with them is that they dont know what marketing is. If they knew how to advertise and promote their awesome products, they could have eliminate the competition. So sorry for all those toxic brainwashed haters out there...
WHO is not talking about the S5ii?😅
My expectation of the focus on this camera is it's around Nikon level. Better than Fujifilm, worse than Sony and Canon. Still very reasonable considering they jumped into it suddenly.
Canon's video AF is overrated. They are not as reliable as Sony cams in tracking or in low light. I'd say that Canon is better than Panasonic cams in tracking but low light, I think the Panasonics might edge them out.
The recent Sony cams are absolutely the kings of the AF hill, that's for sure.
Great video. Thank you for singing its praises because it has many. The problem is not the camera in 2024, it the user.
Maybe it's just your CZcams algorithm. Everyone talks about the S5II/S5IIx.
I film with a Panasonic camera. It isn't bad, to me anyway.
i believe all enthutiast and professional already know this camera is good, but the problem is , its too late.. already in other brand ecosystem.. changing ecosystem is totally pain
Prefer my gh6 Loc. Better color ...than s5s..4.3 lenses..all around cheaper
7:24 Cat
7:46 Cat
I prefer my gh6
I also prefer the slower focus look to zap vlogger focusing.
because people are invested in Sony glass and there is more 3rd party glass in Sony
Nobody talks about it???? Come on, CZcams is full of vidoes people talking about it :D clickbait title .. Still, I love Lumix
Tap to track still sucks on Panasonic.
I shoot a g95 and a G7 why wait no not w a i t w e i g h t yes and now that I'm approaching 60 I have shot in the past Pentax 6x7 another humongous cameras but now I no longer need to you can use your skills to make a great photographs and videos with simpler cameras my dream camera is still of Leica M8 for black and white street photography but as that is expensive I'm very happy to upgrade to my g95 it is lighter although heavy compared to this G7 and the only complaint I really have is the eyepiece isn't wonderful I would love to find something similar with a bigger eyepiece which is probably something like unlika SL1 but again very expensive and not the best for video I wish Panasonic would take out bigger better eye pieces that are round for their lesser cameras as a plus option also as a Nikon shooter for many years Panasonic can do a plus three diopter built in and with Nikon I have to order the special lenses and on other cameras just forget it so that's a big deal as well once you start needing glasses
LOKKKKKKKKKK.
great video.
Literally everyone talks about it
a7s3 is better, S series has the crop at 50p, absolute deal breaker.
What??? what do you know people don't know about it?
Sony sucks based on price - I prefer to keep both my kidneys
If you’re buying an expensive mirrorless camera to shoot video, It would be more intelligent to purchase digital video recorder. They are still made in Japan currently. They are manufactured by Sony, JVC and sharp.
They record with higher resolution and have a 24-200mm focal reach without distortion.
Or you could buy this that has features you don’t need or want, and then buy multiple lenses including other accessories like expensive microphones and cages, and lighting.
This video needs an English to English translator.
stop saying panasonic, just LUMIX.. it's more cooler.. panasonic it's remain me a rice cooker or fridges 😅
But 60fps hd and 4k use contrast base auto focus. And sony not.
english subtitles please
There literally are
Autofocus sucks sucks sucks… Buy Sony folks… Their auto focus is amazing!
I'd the AF sucks sucks. Then why are Sony users saying the S5ii/x Af is on power with Sony 😂😂😂😂. People who buy Sony are brand people only having Sony so they can say they have it. Same as Conon Users.😂😂
