The show creators and Red have said for years that they knew his identity and there is consistent clues starting from the first episode of the first season of his idenity.
1.Kaplan said she put Liz in Red's arms 30 years ago (liz would have been a baby), but we see Kaplan and "Red" meet the first time and Liz was already 10 The only thing that makes sense is Kaplan learned later that Red was Katarina and was now referring to Red about when she was Katarina.
      2. Red tells Kirkov Liz's is his daughter, (under truth serum), we later find out her father is dead.
      3. Both Katarina and Red are both identified as N13
      4. Red obviously cares deeply for Liz, but has very little concern for Jennifer.
      5. Kaplan apologizes to "Katarina" when she digs up Redington's bones, which she is doing to hurt Red. Later found out that the bones are the real Redington
      6. Kaplin says Little Nikko helped her after Annie was shot, and Red responds that Kate knows that he was "away" (not that he had not met Kate). At that time in Kate's flashbacks, Katarina tells Kate she must go "away." Kate had not yet met Red.
      7. Ivan and Ilya are both childhood/old friends of Red and of Katarina, but Red and Katarina don't meet until well into adulthood.
      8. After Dom is shot by Paris Katarina, he apologize to Red not understanding him...which is what katarina says about her father.
      9. We see Dom, Katarina's father, sentimentally attached to his Wagoneer. Red sentimentally describes how his dad drove a Wagoneer. Both Katarina's father and Red's father are shown to/described as liking peanuts, being authoritarian, and excommunicating their child
      10. Both Red and Katarina say their dad didn't understand them, but their mother did.
      11. There is a scene in season 3 where Red is looking out of the window at liz as a child. In the season 8 final this same scene is done with Katarina. Red and Katarina are standing in the same spot, seeing the same thing, at the sane time. They were literally sharing a brain.
      12. Both Red and Katarina said they were the one to have Liz's memories wiped.
      13. Katarina is the only person presented in the story that isn't accounted for after the imposter gets the plastic surgery done.
      14. One of the very first things that Red says to Liz is that everything about him was a lie. Taken literally that would include gender.
      15. Both Katarina and Red were burned in the fire.
      16. It is said repeatedly that they aren't telling Liz what Red's identity is because she couldn't accept it. Who could make more sense then the loss of a mother she never knew.
      17. Kate says she wanted to look after Liz, but couldn't while hiding. Becoming Redington accomplishes that. If Red was someone other than Katarina then she is gone and not looking after Liz.
      18. Kaplan tells both Red and Katarina that she will do what is best for Liz.
      19. Katarina's most obvious feature is her RED hair. People with RED hair are often called RED. It is not a coincidence that "Redington's" name is also shortened to RED. It is a literary device to connect the two characters.
      20. The last time Katarina is ever seen is at the plastic surgeon before imposter Red gets surgery.
This just scratches the surface of all the evidence that Red was Katarina, I could continue to go one for another 20. You have to have your head in the sand to not see that Red was Katarina and ignore that there is almost nothing pointing to anyone else being Red. If you can't follow the actual clues to his identity then you should at least be able to access it like a game of Clue. When you get to the end of the story who is the one person introduced to the story you never found out where they were? That is obviously Katarina.
Also, Daniel Knauf was a staff writer for the show. A couple of days after the final he posted on Facebook that the writing staff were told that Red's true identity was Katarina way back in season 2.

That isn't a rational way to solve a mystery.

@bverji I'm not trying to make it a reason or to prove who Raymond really is. It's just that Katarina says that she felt uncomfortable helping babysit Jennifer. So, hypothetically, if Raymond is Katarina, it doesn't make sense that she would look at the video like a nice memory and even look traumatized at the end of the scene. It just proves my point as to how bad the story writers are and how little they care for the audience clarity.

If you listen carefully, what John is really saying is that there is no explanation forthcoming, but it is not his fault. I don't recall it being mentioned once in season 9. The problem is that they have painted themselves into a corner with no way out. The clues left over the years rule out the possibility of him being either the real Raymond Reddington or Katarina Rostova. Therefore, it must be someone else; and if so, who cares? They may invent a totally new character, but it is clearly an afterthought.

Also 90% and more of her lies and betrayals were because his actions and because he doesn't telling her the truth. You act like she out of nothing stared to act like that on 180 degrees. Every action has consequences. Red's case is big example of that conception. I don't defend her, just i am realistic and don't pick a side. You all( majority of the fans), without wanting to offend you all, act very subjective and put so much double standards on whole situation. He did it to himself. When you lie someone and not telling the true about something so important over and over again, so you should expect, that this certain person will turn on you or just will stop trusting you. Yes, he care about he, he deeply and truly love her and he did everything about her, it is 100% true, i can't disagree with that. But if he told her the real and all truth, maybe she would to do what she did. Stop to watch the whole situation from Red's POV and prospective, just try to put yourselves in her position, not only to judge like you all know better. The answer is always in between.

I'm rethinking who he (Redington or R) is. A man rescued from the fire, a woman, she lived and some man, he died. This we know. During one on the episodes, they showed Redington's burned skin on his back. This person was there in the fire. This man we know as Raymond, knew Elizabeth shot her father. He had her memory erased. Another man had to become Redington to continue R empire. I believe the real Redington died from the gun shot wound. This man was Elizabeth father, he was the real Redington. We don't know the name of this other man that became Redington, but he was a real close friend of the mother.
My thing is what did the imposter, Raymond, not want Sam, the man that raised her, tell Elizabeth? R killed him. Why did he not want her mother to tell her the truth, R killed her. He didn't want Mr. Chaplin to tell Elizabeth, he drove her to kill herself. Wow, R wanted that secret kept.

I could tell from the beginning that there was no plan here other than to milk the audience for as long as possible. Part of the premise of the show is that these characters have back stories that led to the story we are watching. In this lies an unspoken promise that the creators of this show knew those backstories before going in. Knowing the characters' backstories gives them a place to begin when writing episodes. From the beginning it was clear that the creators really had no idea. This was going to be another LOST. Make it up as you go along. In my book this constitutes fraud. I watched for a while because Red is such a delicious character and Spader is an amazing actor. But, there were episodes that Spader played his character with the understanding that Red was Keen's father, because that was where the writing was going in that episode. The next week he played it the exact opposite because the writing in the next episode was seemed to indicate that. I could swear to you that you could almost hear his internal monologue going "What?!" Eventually, I had to stop watching because no matter how great a character Red is, I just couldn't participate in my own manipulation. If the creators/writers had had any real plan other than seeing how long they could drag things out, they would have at least let the actors know what they needed to in order for them to be able to do their job. In theory, Red knows whether he is Keen's father or not. This means that Spader should have known it too. The fact that they don't even know if they are going to give the audience an answer says that they never had one to begin with. This is bad faith, lazy writing and on some level, even unethical.

No matter how much the fans prize the writers and the script, and talking like they knew from the beginning, what to do with this big secret, it is not true. Since the beginning the writers did not know what to do or at least they had not one, but many options and switched between them all the time. First he is her father, so the whole plot circle around that idea, after that they decided, he not to be her father and again the whole plot stars to circle about that conception. After that the third option, he being her mother or some very close to her and again everything being changed to match that conception. After that they go back to the firts option, after that to second again, to first again, to third...to 1st....to 3rd....and like that over and over again 10 years.😂😂😂 Just this stars to be very frustrating.
