I dated him for over a month in NYC in 1987. Met him at a pool party but never connected the James Spader thing, as I knew him as Jimmy and to me a bit of a party boy. He had a friend, who was his sidekick who after Jimmy told me he was going out to California, I asked why. He said to do a movie, I almost spit out my drink. I had not seen Pretty in Pink (More likely to see foreign films at that time) and did not know he was an actor. He was younger than me, so although, super cute and amusing, as he had quite the wit, I didn’t take it too seriously. I knew his mom was a teacher and also an artist as well had visited her loft on the Bowery. He showed up 1.5 hours late for a dinner of about a dozen of my friends, so was not a good outcome. It wasn’t til the ‘90’s in Seattle when I saw a slew of his films and realized that James was Jimmy! When I knew him, he looked like what he looked like in Ice Palace. Great hair, intense eyes and yes very attractive. Glad he had such a great career!

Mr. Spader as Reddington was THE BEST casting for a character. Can't imagine anyone else doing that role justice, Perfection!!!

Evidently the intended actor for that role was Keifer Sutherland. That's a big no thanks for me. The ONLY reason I watched Blacklist was James Spader.
Absolutely loved him in Boston Legal. I still re-watch the full series every few years.
I agree and I still watch them too. His character is just fantastic...lol I think Boston Legal is my favourite of his TV shows though the Blacklist is excellent too.

I find James Spader quirky, reserved, highly intelligent and very seductive. That combo has worked very well for him. I find these same similarities in two other actors such as the great John Malkovich and Christopher Walken. There’s just something about them that can’t be denied.
Word! I was struck by his "Pretty In Pink" character. As for Christopher Walken, he's really a nice guy. He goes to the mall and buys his underwear like everybody else.
I love his work. Quirky gets it right. I especially loved STAR GATE.

That show finally ended? They stretched the secret out so long that I gave up after even the main character didn’t get to know the truth.

I remember Mannequin, it was a fun movie. His character in Sex, Lies and Videotape was oddly seductive. The original Stargate movie was the perfect example of how he could make a nerd look sexy as well as smart. I still think they should have kept him in the series. I miss the blond hair, but I know that we all adapt to the current situation in life. I hope he is around for many more years and I hope to see his sons grow in the business too! ❤James Spader❤

Great video I loved hearing all the details we normally don’t. Especially that he’s a truly nice guy despite his many arrogant or hedonistic roles! I’m going to literally grieve for for more seasons of Reddington as he was in season’s 1-9.
Spader is one of my all time favorite actors.I loved him in The Blacklist and Stargate are my most loved .

I thought he was excellent in Stargate?!! Especially fixing the blackboard and the poor guy who thought he was right was standing there looking so bewildered. And the lady who brought him on board says, “He did it.” So calm. All the cast were great. Especially you know who!! One of my favorite movies. At 83 I have a lot. Especially science fiction and fantasy. I’m a Marvel gal. Let’s keep on enjoying the older movies. Do really enjoy todays series. Bye. Well, actually The Last of Us rules!!
Yep, I liked his change in that type of role. I vaguely remember him in the movie Mannequin where he played a dorky uptight store manager. His way of walking all tedious in his approach was amusing. There's a scene where he gets caught mid-air between two buildings in a car chase. The look in his face was hilarious.
I've only seen his TV work, so I can't speak to the film work. In TV roles I've never seen him as 'scary," just fascinating and often funny in a low-key way - he's one of those people I can't look away from. And on talk shows he's a great raconteur. Quirky, yes, but again, fascinating.
Boston Legal, The Blacklist….and as Robert California in The Office. I’ve always been impressed with his roles, his acting. Pure entertainment! Thank you for this “waltz” through his accomplishments….makes me want to watch some of those movies/shows, all over again!

I first saw him as the "nerd" on Stargate
I can't believe he's same guy as Raymond Reddington... just looks and sounds different
My Mum really enjoyed Stargate!, my favourite was Less Than Zero!, Andrew!, Robert!, Jami & James!, played there parts well!.
He was also Dr Daniel Jackson in the movie Stargate which made him a nice geek.
Love him in “Dream Lover.”

Agreed. And he looks so completely different. I went to rewatch the beginning of Stargate, closed my eyes, to hear his voice, comparing Jackson to Reddington. Same voice of course, but intriguing.

I saw him in a movie where he plays the good guy but is a bad ass type. Jack's Back, I thought it was about the silliest thing I had ever seen. Kind of like if Don Knotts played the Terminator. When Star Gate came out I thought he was great in that movie. Not interested in watching cop shows or lawyer shows. He may be great at these shows but they are not for me.
