People usually say, myself included "I could listen to X reading the phone book", though with Spader in-character one should totally expect him reverting to the distraction technique of regaling some vent of his life or somebody else's life to gauge how honest they are, so I could totally imagine Spader making up stories about the people in the book.

The last seasons are being carried solely by this man's immense charisma.
Red and Dembe are the 2 things that keep me glued to it lol dont get me wrong i love the rest of the show and characters(most of the time lol), but just the mystery and questions surrounding the two are so intriguing and its honestly the main thing that keeps me anticipating the next episode everytime i see it.

wrong - it's not solely his charisma. It's also his voice. I tune in to the show just so I can hear this man talk... doesn't even matter what he is talking about... for all I care, he could read from the user's manual and warranty information of a vacuum cleaner or a toaster... or better yet: BOTH... I LOVE this man's voice

He is the reason why most of the people watch the show. He has mastered a very unique way of doing long stories to get the point delivered. The Voice, the grammar the tone and texture of the voice is amazing.

Back in the 80s I didn't like James Spader. I think it was the type of characters he played. I have come to realize James Spader is one of the absolute best actors of our time.

The writing on the blacklist is brilliant. This role was created for Spader! He's an absolute phenomenal actor. I could listen to him and Morgan Freeman talk all day about nothing and it'll still be interesting lol.

I love James Spader .. Love his eccentricity, his voice, his confidence, his acting prowess... he is equally good when he is ruthless and when he shows vulnerability .... I think he is one of the best actors we have. The Blacklist is one of my favorite shows.

If someone else became Raymond Reddington, the shows wouldn't have making me curious the whole time. Sometimes I try to encourage myself it's all the script, but nope. It was James Spader character the whole time. Look at the way he talk during interviewed, Raymond Reddington was made for him. Anyone else can play, yes. But never as perfect as him.

he is probably my favorite actor, and literally irreplaceable in The Blacklist. I've never been so into a show in my life than watching him. You could throw out 100% of the other "main characters" and keep him and there's still a show

Hes brilliant as an actor in this role where his character is so beautifully complex in a twist of characteristics like cruelty٫ coldness٫ sweet compassion٫ deep caring٫ love٫ decency٫ unending loyalty٫ and determination٫ Its such a cornucopia of characteristics that makes you not know for sure if you want to dispise him or love him! James Spaders dipiction of Red is so totally flawless I feel nothing but pure admiration and awe for him!

Mr. Spader is a tremendous talent. I've been convinced watching many of the episodes of The Blacklist that some of his lines were ad lib and very entertaining. I recall several in fact. The last episode, part cartoon and part whatever they had managed to produce before covid hit hard in NYC was very good. I like the staff snapshots etc. Nice people all of them. I hope that they have been able to produce some more episodes by working around the plague. Mr. Spader, if you read these comments, I want to say "Thank You". My wife and I enjoyed Blacklist together for years through her cancer. She is gone now since a year ago but we had a lot of laughs and good times watching the show. Thank you!

I've just started watching this show on Netflix and needless to say I'm addicted! I'm halfway through season 4 and I've only been watching for the past two weeks! I've seen alot of Spader's work over the years and Blacklist by far is my FAVORITE!! 🥰🥰
I found the Blacklist on Netflix too and literally couldn't stop watching..... for myself I keep rewatching certain episodes still finding little gems .... it's a guilty pleasure
Ur abt to ask for Liz’s absence, gosh she ruined some seasons and coz of her I can’t rewatch them.
I mentioned that I caught myself using his style of speaking. An attorney friend responded that she did that in court appearance once and she felt like it really helped her.
The man is way beyond the average intellect of the Show biz in US, such a deep view of understanding his crafts, profession, life

Reddington is smart enough to know, most of the time, there are "smart" adversaries out there and he has to use every resource to not let them beat him..There was one person who darned near beat him at every turn and he didn't know who it was.
If I was to compare Reddington to another character, it would be Batman, but he uses a gun, among other weapons, and has a penchant for opponents to be dispatched to the next life. Dembee would be his nightmare version of Alfred, lol lol. Just my humble thoughts.

Sonny Badyal "...he can give a certain type of look while in character..." I just learned, from another youtube video, that he has a dry eyes condition. He was asked why does not wear contact lenses instead of prescription glasses for his increasing poor vision. He said contacts bother his eyes because he does not blink enough to keep his eyes moist. I always wondered why he had that unique, "I'm looking at you, but I'm seeing something more" look, which seemed to add something to all the characters he has played. It works really well with his the Reddington character. Reddington could probably tell an adversary, "Let's see who bllnks first" and win, lol. I don't think anyone would disagree about his years of big and small screen acting chops, but his eyes alone, should get an Emmy, lol. I'm thinking if there was a song done about Betty Davis' eyes, someone could do one about James Spader's/Raymond Reddington's eyes. My apologies for going on so long, but I am an old a$$ fan dude, with 13 years on him. Everyone else has seemed to have said all the great things about him, so these are my few little thoughts about an actor who does not ever seem to be acting and maybe that is what his greatness is all about....and those eyes👍.

I can't believe I completely missed "The Blacklist" until last month (September 2021) when it popped up as a Netflix recommendation. OMG, OMG, where was I? Abducted by aliens and memory-wiped? Now, of course, I can binge-watch all 8 seasons, and even some of the latest season. Spader is a unique, natural presence, as evidenced in this interview, which makes the series totally believable, in spite of the improbable situations presented. I hope Spader never changes his philosophy on life and acting as it adds immeasurably to his performance. Thanks, James Spader.
Mr. Spader is on top of his game, he's amazing. No one could replace "Red" with his quick Witt's, comical stories and his ruthlessness but he also has a strong loving caring side. I really hate to see this end.

I absolutely LOVE this show and Spader’s role!! I have been binge watching for several weeks and am currently on Season 7… I am just as enthralled with it now as I was with the first episode. Phenomenal show!!
The most compelling show I have ever see. Would it work as well without James Spader? Possibly but I cannot think of anyone who could play Red and grip you from the very beginning. The addition of Characters like Dembe, Liz, Harold etc make it even more special. The vast array of other wonderful Characters, including Tom and so many more are just incredible.
I love James Spader. I love his character in The blacklist. I've followed his career and love every character he played but this one on the blacklist is by far his best yet. In love.

@@sharon012490 Spoiler Alert: Mr. Kaplan betrayed Reddington (though in my opinion she didn't), and got shot, only to survive, and after a series of sabotages made by Mr. Kaplan, Reddington tried to repent and give her a private island only for her to order Tom Keen to unearth a briefcase with bones there, and she committed suicide by jumping off the bridge.
