    I'm from Assam in North East India. We have a culture similar to South East Asian countries. I worked in Mumbai for 5 long years and it mentally broke me down. There's just one positive point I bring back from there is that the difference between the slums in India and western countries is that the people of Mumbai slums have jobs! Everyone is either recycling something or doing some blue collar jobs instead of pushing Heroin like the slums in the west.

    • @garlicgirl3149
      @garlicgirl3149 Před 10 měsíci

      YES! I was going to comment a slum is a slum but from the different documentaries I have watched in Mumbai specifically, is the ability to work. I noticed the creativity to try and make ends meet. Now, I do know this for a fact, some diy jobs that people used to do to survive in the West the government now says is illegal and if you are caught can get in trouble. So, you take away a means to survive but offer nothing in return in that community to survive. That is what saddens me here. Sigh...

      @kosmosbjm Před 9 měsíci

      In the west, you need a license to do anything, then pay taxes and sometimes you need liability insurance. I’m wondering if anything like that exists in Mumbai, or whether anyone can just make money however they can without all these limitations?

      Being in d chaotic n polluted Mumbai for 3 years was a out of comfort working n living experience. I clearly wanted a chance for a better working n living from KL to Europe, but somehow someone in my previous office made a blunder. My office in BKC Bandra East, a prestigious corporate offices area, is very close to Dharawi, d biggest slum area in Mumbai. Some of my Malaysian frenz from d general consulate even visited this area, n it seemed that there r plenty of cottage industries in this slum area that produced goods for d upmarket n trendy retail outlets in d malls in Mumbai. Have u seen d most expensive apartment building in d world owned by d richest billionaire in India, Mukesh Ambani, it's not far from d city centre.

    • @recipe30
      @recipe30  Před rokem +2

      Yes there's so much contrast in India and particularly in Mumbai. The pollution did get to me, I was coughing a lot being so used to clean sea air, I don't think my lungs could take it. They seem to be burning off a lot of toxic material there.

      @@recipe30 Thanks for sharing your experience in Mumbai. Sorry to hear that your health was affected. Hope u r much better now. Talking about health in Mumbai, for my first six months in Mumbai, I suffered daily vomiting n irritable bowel syndrome. Somehow, I managed to cope with d city in d next 2 n half years. But after 3 years in chaotic n polluted Mumbai, I came back to KL with a depression, eventually lost my job n my only apt in KL. Not a good place for my posting experience. And talking about d terrorist attacks in Mumbai, I actually arrived in d city reporting for duty just week after d incident. It's just too much for me, I totally blame it to my ex employer, a Malaysian investment development authority. 😁
