To the Indian viewers who are new here - welcome! I'm Dan, and this is The New Travel. I try to make videos that break stereotypes about different cultures and show people the reality of life in different countries. I've been to Indian twice now and both trips have been unforgettable. It's a special land with a soul unlike any other. Some people in the comments have asked me why I travel in tuktuks and not take Ubers... it's because I want to be on the street and able to see the life moving around me. That is one of the joys of travelling India. I don't want to be "hidden away" in a car, I want to see and experience as much as I can. It's the reason I take trains instead of airplanes as well. I'm not sure if that makes sense... but it's how I travel!
In any case, you're welcome to visit my TRAVEL INDIA 🇮🇳playlist to learn more about these experiences. Have a great day...

The problem with most of the foreign tourist is that they come with pre mindset that India is pretty cheap place , they don't prefer metro, ola ,uber etc for transportation but prefer tuktuk but latter keep complaing how a tuktuk driver scam them. They prefer to stay in some cheap hotel in some crazy place and later will complain how becoz of bug they couldn't sleep at night.Take street food 4m some random stall , at where even we Indian think 100times to take food, later on they have food poisoning and keep complain about Indian Street foood.Problem is that most of them are budget travellers.

I often pretend to bargain and the after an agreed price I usually add a generous amount on top… the look on the face of the person is usually my biggest reward of the day.. I feel if we are so blessed we need to share some of the joy … please do not think I am sermonising .. I used to be different previously.. when I saw their lives more closely,my attitude changed

Your comments matched many of my experiences when I was there in 1984 and about your age. I ended up spending six weeks in India and Nepal. Time is not what westerners are use too, so changing your perspective is good advice. A meal might take two hours, exchanging money an hour. You learn that the bus or train may soon come meaning one hour or five hours, so you learn to chill and read your paperback. The people were amazing and I had very few problems, but it was challenging traveling. Often I would put off leaving my hotel room in the morning knowing once I left the sights and sounds would overwhelm my senses until my return. Also, there is no quite time with people playing music and engaging in activities all night. Overall I felt like it was life unfiltered showing you the good and the bad at any moment. I think of my experience there every day and gave me a perspective of life no other place can offer.

Obviously Ola/Uber have now made a difference for you to not have the experience that you had with the cycle rickshaw ride, but you still learnt something in a much harder way. Don't overplan, have patience and it can make the ride worth it. And believe me, the traffic is what drives tourists crazy. They think books are really time consuming thing to do and they Fully relly on Google for any kind of information.Let me tell you ,I am an Indian and I travel all over India since I was only 3 yrs.My father always use to read about the destination 6 months prior before visiting that place and I too got my interest from him.We travelled from Kashmir to Andaman from Rajasthan to Darjeeling without a single help from neither guide nor Google.

The part you said about getting "mentally tired" just performing simple tasks is bang on. As an Indian, I still experience it. I can't understand why I have not got used to it after all these years. Then I reason it's because I can't get myself to accept that these things cannot change for the better. The status quo is largely because of the mindset of Indians to 'adjust' to these irritants rather than believe that we deserve better. We need to have higher expectations, voice it, and demand better standards for ourselves. We need to believe we are worth it. Until every Indian believes this, India will not change in this regard.
