When jiao zi (dumpling) get that big, we have a different kind of stuffing and we call it jiu cai he zi "Chives box." It's filled with chives, stir fried glass noodles, and scrambled eggs (can have other ingredients based on preference. They taste amazing and shouldn't be oily inside at all, not that large dumpling should be oily either, you're cooking/prepping them really wrong if they are letting out that much oil.

Ordering the 15 jumbo gyoza is great if it's for a couple of people, or for a person or two (taking their time and stopping when full) , taking the leftovers home, freeze them, and reheat them when in the mood for gyoza.
I really hope it‘s doable, because that is totally what i‘d do xD

My first thought when I saw the title of this video was "Chris said he was never going to do this challenge again." (After the last monster gyoza challenge). And yet, here we are lol. I hope you guys can get some yummy food next time! Their normal menu looked really nice!

I love how watching someone do an eating challenge brings out the football fan coaching a pro team in me. I wouldn’t be able to do it yet I’m yelling at the screen - “Cut the dumplings up with your chopsticks first!! Then they will cool down and it will be easier to pick up pieces and eat them”
I honestly didn't think Chris would ever do any sort of gyoza challenge again after the last one he did. This one's on him, really. He doesn't learn from his mistakes.

Did no one realize, that Chris ate a whole gyoza more than Joey? He had only 8 and 1/3 gyozas left at the end
Yeah that was strange, the whole time the editing made it seem like Chris was ahead by 1, so I thought they were just miscounting. But then at the end after Chris ate a 5th one, the editing kept it as 4. So now I cant tell if they all fucked up and Chris ate more, or if the editing messed up early on and then fixed itself by the end.

I actually tried the Jumbo Gyoza challenge after seeing Chris video. I went with my bf back then and we couldn't finish it 😂😂 It also tasted quite different, which made it super difficult. 😅
I feel like the first step should be ripping them all open to let SOME of the heat dissipate. Then I would take some ice from my water and toss them in. It would water it down and make it grosser but at least you wouldn't burn your mouth? I don't know.
There has to be some sort of trick to it, if people have done it.

This looks like eating over 20 empanadas here in Mexico, which frankly, eating more than 3 would fill anyone up.

Just like I thought with the bigger gyoza, I would rather attempt 100 good regular gyoza than do this one. I'm not saying I'd win, but these just don't look like they're even good food.

Yeah, as a buffet trained american, this doesn't even look that bad. The problem with them is that they're eating too slow.
The slower you eat the faster you hit your limit. You gotta blast past your limit before you realize you hit it.
Forget the portion size, the sheer amount of oil in each bite is the terrifying part

@@adventofnull I have gastritis as well on top of it and have to take a nasty white slurry before each meal. Honestly the worst thing I’ve had to do (food wise) because I’ve had to cut so many things out of my diet
@@RS-bn1ty honestly mine isn't that bad haha. The worst was a bad reflux last year, actually felt like I was having a heart attack. If I stick to having a balanced diet I'm usually okay. Wishing you well among these times!

didn't chris eat almost 6 gyozas and joey almost 5? joey was the only one counting out loud how many he had eaten, while chris just ate them, so maybe they got confused over the amount chris had eaten?
yeah. I thought chris was ahear by 1 and then they cut to them both being 4. I am confused
I was confused too, went back to see if it was an editing issue, it does seem like chris did eat 1 more than joey. there was one point where joey asked what number chris was at, and I think chris misheard it as how many he had eaten, since he at that time was about to begin on his fourth gyoza and answered joey, saying 3. seems like a miscommunication, I'm not sure
If you count how many are left on the plate at 14:30, they both have 9 whole and 1 partial, so both ate 5 whole. Tie was the right call.

I genuinely feel like this should be more doable, but it's more on the part of the chef to help. There is no reason to shred the filling for a dumpling that big. A giant soup dumpling with sweet potatoe or rice noodles, some vegetables, and a couple of slices of smoked meat would probably be like a chicken pot pie.

I do actually feel physically queasy watching this. When I was a kid, I did stuff myself with food so badly at a party that I just threw up afterwards. So, I understand this feeling.
I have a really bad stomach that makes eating normal adult portions (southern US) a troubling task. So I can easily imagine how sick people feel while doing food challenges.
Needless to say, watching these kind of videos can sometimes make me feel nauseous even through the screen lmao.

@@nyaasar honestly didn't ask. They took it away shortly after time was up. I was so full and hit a meat wall my mind was really fuzzy. If I happen to do this challenge again or even eat here again I'll ask.

I just watched three Joey/Chris food challenges and Joey has said, verbatim, every video, “you know the craziest thing about food challenge videos? The audience will never know how much this actually is” LOL every. Single. Video.
I did the Wankosoba challenge in Morioka two times! (180 first time, 200 bowls second time). However the best challenge i did was the monster ramen , that was fun! But this? I absolutely refuse to do the Gyoza challenge...you two are very brave.
They say the trick is using the water to dull the taste. Plus using less sauce because thats ultimately more grease. Even with that advice I don't even know if I could eat 5 of those. Geez.

I can't imagine eating more than four.
There was a time when I was 12 years old where the idea of consuming an obscene amount of food excited me. Now the prospect of having to stuff my abdomen in this way makes my intestines retract and shrink in fear. ive realized from multiple Japanese food challenges that quality control almost always goes out the window.
