      Same, some black girls on section 8 housing took advantage of me and said the order was never delivered. Because of them I will not deliver to low income areas. Because of them I fear low income housing and it sucks for the people who are legit but Im looking out for me and the company I represent. All uber eats orders I accept are only in nice neighborhoods from now on wether UE, DD or GH. I need to protect my income. End of story, call me a racist I dont care but I got a mortgage to pay and bills and animals to feed.

I swear it seems like DD changes how the map lays out from north, south, east, west. So when I take that order at night going home I am really not going home and I end up in the hood (really pisses me off). The other night I ended up in an area where people have been shot and just tonight I heard a gun shot picking up chicken wings for a customer. There were 2 cop vehicles parked outside the restaurant and after I grabbed the wings the cops were gone, assuming they went to investigate the gun fire. I made it home tonight.

    @wayneanderson8034 Před 5 měsíci +1

    If they make a drastic cut in pay, they will have a driver shortage. So what they do is walk it down, little by little over time, so that the drivers who quit over lower pay are always replaced by new drivers. It's a scheduled plan of pay reduction. I earned $8.80 hour last year in a $12 hour minimum wage state, & the pay is still going down. They rely on desperate people. When the desperate give up & quit, there's a new batch of desperate to exploit. The pay will keep going down until deliveries aren't being made. Only then will pay plateau. Whatever you earn now, it will be less next year.

      Right same thing but there is an easy solution just stop doing it simply its not worth it. Instead get a part time minimium wage job to increase your income or a full time minimum wage job if you don't have a job. I picked up a part time mcdonalds job and make way more money doing that then doordash and no wear and tear on my car.

    Where are they spending their money? Mostly dashers. Payroll tend to be the most expensive component of a business even if it is exploitive, just due to the sheer amount of employee most business need. That and real estate, but it's unlikely DD pays much of that. Marketing, for vast majority of real companies, are ranked third, usually between 5 and 15 percent for a B2C business. DD probably spend a bigger percentage due to a smaller real estate slice(a shrink in real estate will mean a proportional increase in everything else, including both marketing and payroll)
    An increase in revenue and expense is expected with scaling up of any business. In fact, it should be expected for revenue, expense and volume to be increasing at the same rate. That is health and hurts nobody(well, not any further, if the workers are exploited, they'd be exploited in the same way still, not any worse).
    What is telling, however, is the increase in net revenue margin, that's more or less the profit--the money that they are *not* spending. If that's going up, that means someone (other than owner/shareholder/exec) is getting boned.
    Also, for this particular business model, oversaturation of workforce is a problem for the workers. It doesn't make a huge difference either way to the company or their numbers, but will affect the income of each individual worker. This also plays into the payroll expense bit, paying workers more overall have no concrete relationship with how much each individual worker get paid. Twice the worker, 75% of the pay is still a 50% in payroll expense.
    Yes, stuff like dash pass can potentially hurt the workers, especially if the company's take rate (net revenue margin) isn't decreasing. Because if the customer is benefiting, then someone is hurting, and if it's not the company.... That said, while dash pass (and equivalent) purportedly waive delivery fee, it is unclear if that's actually true. They always charge a service fee, the purpose of which is unclear. For all we know they could have split delivery fee into two parts, one part waived if you have the pass, the other as a component of the service fee. Furthermore, the amount purportedly charged/saved does not necessarily represent the actual cost of service. It is possible those without the pass are subsidizing the delivery cost of those with it by being hit with an inflated delivery fee. That would also make the pass even more appealing. Another thing to keep in mind is that DD and other such service do *not* need to make much money from the customer, they also take a large slice from the restaurant (which might be passed to the customer via inflated price indirectly, but the point is that the "fee" is not the only income). So focusing solely on the customer side payment structure is unlikely to arrive at the correct conclusion. There might be some correlation, but it isn't directly causal.
    Unfortunately, a lot of things would require a lot more data and closer look to be really known. The only thing that's really telling in this report is the net revenue margin, an increase in that is rarely a good sign for the employees (or customers, in some cases). Besides that, nothing is inherently good or bad.
