You're at top dasher stats and still getting $2 orders. That should tell you everything you need to know about top dasher.. I'm in a horrible market being in FL. I typically work 2hrs during lunch and 4hrs at dinner. I still make between $100-$140 by cherry picking and doing DD/UE. My goal each day is to hit $20-25 on Uber Eats and $100 on DD and I usually do that in around 6 hours.
It's not great pay but I still always average $20/hr which in the central FL market is about as good as I can average. I'd probably only average $15/hr trying to be top dasher..
IMO the only reason to be Top Dasher is to not have to schedule and to be able to easily work in any zone. The other reason is "maybe" if you're in an awesome market the orders will always be good, but in shitty markets it simply doesn't pay.

DD already admitted top dasher no longer gives you more orders during a shift. It only gives you access to dash whenever which is beneficial if you have a market where it's gray a lot (aka saturated with dashers). So technically you "get more orders" because you get more shift times. That's shady wording tho. The priority access of maintaining 70 percent acceptance or above gives you far less garbage orders in a busy market but in a less busy one, guess what? You'll still see the garbage ones still pop up. I do the hourly pay now except the lunch rush when I try to hit high pay catering orders. I don't have to rush and I still get 2 to 4 deliveries per hour. Today's 9.5 hour shift was $207. Not bad for a Monday.

I always make top dasher in the first week of the month. I couldn’t see my self dashing with out it. My goal every shift is 350$, I sometimes make more. If I was tipped 1$ more for every order I do every shift I’d be making an extra 40$ minimum, which would put me at closer to 400$ a day. That 11$ for 20+ miles would have definitely been a decline for me, especially that it was taking me out of my zone. That’s why I keep my acceptance rate 85%+ so I can decline orders like that. Never take a highway on the way to a hot spot, because there’s a great chance you’ll get an offer as soon as you pass your exit.

Leave the house for the first good order, stay out for as long as I'm getting good orders, than come home when it dies or only crappy orders. I still cherry pick. Not playing Tony's game. You can still get your AR up without taking no tip orders. I personally dont take anything less than 1$/mile round trip or $1.50/mile when its busy and my AR hovers between 75%-80%. All the "high pay order" means is its paying $1.50-$2.00 per mile or more depending on the market and doesnt mean its paying a high amount but they definitely can.

I appreciate your hustle and what you're trying to achieve but, in my opinion, this is only making this worse because now these customers in your area think its ok to "no tip" every order. Many times restaurants in my area wait to see if someone is picking up these orders before making them so id have to wait 5-10 minutes for the food. So its a hard pass for me. In my case what I've had to do to adjust in this low ball market is take orders that the $ might be a little less than the mileage ($7 for 7.5 or 8 miles etc). I understand that every market has its own set of challenges, but there has to be some type of balance and working for free isn't part of that equation. I didn’t mean to sound bragging. I say what I do & make & try to encourage others to do the same because it works for me. Everyone is an individual & do their business the way they want to. After working retail management, I know not everyday is going to be a $ maker day. Complaining doesn’t accomplish anything. Bad mouthing no tippers doesn’t accomplish anything. I live with an attitude of gratitude. When my attitude tanks because of rude people whether it’s restaurant staff, or hearing a fellow dasher got shot over taking a photo of food or customers giving 1⭐️because of delivery photos, I still maintain my attitude of gratitude because I have the freedom to go home & not let the sour attitude that affected my attitude affect someone else. You gotta enjoy it or get out of it. Some days are good, others are not. Dashing is still a good gig if your numbers are good but I think sometimes it can depend on the market you’re in. If your market sucks & if you want stick with Doordash, move. That’s what I did.

Makes zero sense for doordash to do that, considering the model works perfectly fine, the customers already foot the bill for doordash with pre tips. No tips = eventually everybody is going to decline those when the dumb drivers learn they aren't making any money taking those and doordash has to up the base pay until dashers take the order, financially makes no sense for doordash. They are only doing it in NYC because they are forced to pay the drivers a wage and so doordash is punching back by basically making the platform cheaper for customers, getting doordash more orders and customers since customers don't have to tip, saving customers money but getting doordash more orders in return as a result.
